I just purchased one of those with my new mapex saturn kit for muffling purposes, I didn't actually get the version of it with the mic stand so won't comment on that aspect.I have to admit I'm a bit disappointed with this, in my opinion it muffles too much. It's just kind of heavy and compact, and as it turns out my saturn kick drum came with remo power stroke 3 for both batter and reso, so with the rockbag in addition I get a characterless little thump. A towel is actually enough to get rid if the slight amount of excess harmonics in my saturn lol.I think in bass drums with higher frequencies (birch wood?) that actually need muffling this could be great, especially if the heads aren't already pre-muffled! But in my really bassy and controlled maple/walnut kick drum, it's just too much in my opinion.
I think this is a great idea, But I think there need to be more of a desciption on here and it would solve some of the back reviews. There shouldn't be a problem getting an adapter for the mic, to convert it from European to US. Most mic's especially AKG, made in Austria, come with that adapter in their mic clips or you can buy one on here for cheap. Other than that, I'd like to hear some review about the dampening aspect of this contraption. I think the mic aspect is great, but if it's going to change my sound, for better or worse, Id really like to know,Otherwise it's useless. How do these sound in the drum. Right know I use big feather pillows, Takes up between a 1/4 and a 3rd of the kick drum, and a couple of Falam Slams for both of my kickdrums. They sound like cannons!
The available information on the specs are sketchy at best. It does attach with velcro and they don't tell you that. The pillow is very heavy. The worst thing they don't tell you is that it will ONLY work in a 22" & up bass drum. It will not conform to anything smaller. If they made it more pliable, it woud work. It will work in a 16" or an 18" deep kick and that's good. The center piece for the mic holder is European thread and they should at least give you an adapter along with it to convert it to American. They do give you a mic clip with European threads, but if you have mics that are already threaded and don't require a mic clip, then you must get an adapter.
A regular mic clip will not mount to the bag and no one seems to be able to correct this problem...
Well made product. Great idea. But two major problems. First problem is the mic mount is not standard 1/2" size (is 3/8" or Euro size). Adapter is required and is next to impossible to find. Second problem is the size. Is 17" x 18" and will not fit in my 14" deep kick drum. Can't use it.
