Rotosound

Handmade in England.

Gauges 45-65-85-105. Pressure wound stainless steel. Long scale.
Solo Bass is made by rolling the wire as the string is being made. This string has 3 advantages over the conventional roundwound:
a smooth feel, ideal for fretless bass and studio work; no finger noise/reduced fretwear, and it retains the brightness of the roundwound string.
Rotosound is famous for their high quality electric bass strings.

Great tone, not so sure about low noise

By Jim@MusFrnd

from Atlanta, GA

Comments about Rotosound RS55LD Solo Bass Stainless Steel Strings:

I bought the Rotosound RS55LD strings looking for less string noise, but these strings are rougher and make more noise than the Fender nickel-plated roundwounds I was using. I'll have to try the 66s to see what the difference is. However, these 55s make my Geddy Lee jazz bass sound like Geddy Lee's tone, which was the point of having this bass. The Fender strings were nice, but had a warmer and more mellow tone, which was great for some things but not why I bought this bass.

Versatile, Fretless & Fret friendly

Comments about Rotosound RS55LD Solo Bass Stainless Steel Strings:

I've used the RS55LDs for the past two years, and I've found they have all the quality and durability we've all come to expect from Rotosound. They aren't quite as bright as the 66LD set. I use them on my fretless Fender Jazz. They sound great, and they are kind to the epoxy coating on the fingerboard. This bass has a stock passive p/u system and the tone of the string really cuts through. I also use them on my new Fender Jaguar, with fully active electronics. This is a very bright bass by nature, and I thought the RS66LDs were just too bright. I much prefer the slightly mellower tone of the RS55LDs. Again, I love the fact that these strings aren't chewing my frets up as quickly either!

I Finally Found My Favorite Strings

By Moe Evel

from Charlotte, NC

Comments about Rotosound RS55LD Solo Bass Stainless Steel Strings:

After 22 yaers of looking for a set of strings I could honestly say made a difference in my sound the day has arrived. I read another review of a guy with a Geddy Jazz, and I decided to give them a shot on mine. They felt a bit rough at first (not as slick as others I have tried), but gone was all of the finger noise I have been trying to shake for years. The sound is awesome, and I will buy these again and again. Throw some on; you won't be disappointed.

Simply the Best

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Rotosound RS55LD Solo Bass Stainless Steel Strings:

I put these bad boys on my fender Geddy Lee Jazz. I thought my bass was at its top as it was. NOW it is unbelievable. I cna't believe what these things can do. They have Geddy's mad fast fingerpicking sound style. They have the classic jaco growl, they have flea low thump and high pops, and all the funky groove anyone could ever need. I am suprised the government has banned these for being.. bass-roids. There is no way to explain how great these things are. Not to mention the lack of all finger noise. These are a flawless string for a reeeeeeeaaaaallllly low price considering how they perform, after using these, I will never use anything else on my bass.

Not that smooth

By izumo22

from Bronx, NY

Comments about Rotosound RS55LD Solo Bass Stainless Steel Strings:

After playing the Rotosound RS55LD solo bass strings, I realized a couple of things. First thing is they are not as smooth as the description makes it seem but at least they don't feel like they grind into my frets compared to the swing bass strings. Also you still get a good amount of finger noise when doing sides and such. I put them on my Spector legend 4 custom and played through my line-6 ld300 pro and other then my few gripes about the strings they sound really good. I'm not sure if I'll put them on my fretless though.

Best I've used!

By killerwattbass

Comments about Rotosound RS55LD Solo Bass Stainless Steel Strings:

After years of searching for good bass strings, I have come upon this type of Rotosound strings. They remain bright & punchy and don't kill your fingers. String noise is also noticeably lower.

Best I've heard

By NY Bassment

from New York

Comments about Rotosound RS55LD Solo Bass Stainless Steel Strings:

I've been a longtime user of another brand of strings, and decided to give these a try just out of boredom. I wish I'd experimented a long time ago!I put these strings on my 1982 Gibson Victory and got the best sounds I've ever gotten out of it. The strings are very punchy, and extremely bright without being "twangy." I can't think of any kind of music they couldn't be used for. They're also easy on the fingers. Get some.
