First off, Musicians Friend is awesome. They ship out fast & oftentimes give big discounts...

I hooked it into my Breedlove acoustic, and into my Yamaha THR10, & the sound is almost exactly like the guitar when unplugged.

Nice treble, bass & mids (the frequency range is nice & flat).

Yes, it will produce unwanted transients (feedback) if you are close to an amp with the volume cranked up sky-high.

I use a Fender Rumble 350 amp head (solid state) for ALL amplified jazz guitars (including my archtop AND my acoustic with the SA-1).
The amp has headroom and an extremely clean sound (more suited toward jazz guitar playing).

Depending on the amp or pre-amp, some quack is possible, especially on a thinner hollow guitar.
Since I use the Fender Rumble head, the SA-1 will not produce quack.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-1 Acoustic Pickup:

My install was a little more difficult than I thought. My arm wouldn't reach the hole I drilled, so I thought about it and remembered a telescoping tool my brother gave me long ago that has a magnet at the end for picking up metal objects. I used that and was finally able to reach it after 70 or 80 tries. I used a fingernail file to keep the jack from falling back in the hole while I screwed the nut on the exterior. I filed the saddle down and restrung my beautiful Alvarez with the Ernie Ball aluminum bronze and voila it now plays like a dream. I used a soldering gun as well. So, if you decide to install your Seymour Duncan permanently I hope this helps you, Plan it out, it's worth it!

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-1 Acoustic Pickup:

I've used the Acoustic Tube for several years and it's a great sounding pickup with no noise or feedback. I recently decided to install it permanently in my Alvarez, and drilled a hole for a quarter inch jack just south of the strapbutton. I cut the jack off the cord and it works perfectly! The silver ground wire to the pin closest to the middle, and the copper wire to the outer one. Easy peazy! Lol..! I plan on running it into my Behringer ADI Acoustic Preamp for a little boost. I'm changing the strings to Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze Extra Lights as well. I put masking tape on before drilling and started with a small hole and worked my way up. I'll admit I was nervous about drilling a hole in my nice Alvarez, but it didn't hurt it. I know that I'll love the guitar even more now with the permanent install, as I got a little tired of the cord, although I did what the other reviewer did, and taped it to the black pickguard with electrical tape. I love the pickup, and if I want to try something else that will be simple now!

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-1 Acoustic Pickup:

I have a piezo installed in all of my instruments, but grew tired of the harshness. I had a Seymour Duncan Woody and experimented with it and found I liked the warmth of a magnetic. The tube offered an advantage over the woody of having a volume control, which was the deciding factor. I hooked in the tube at the gig and was impressed by the warmth. I then plugged in the peizo and combined signals and found a great balance. Ultimately one or the other systems have some weakness, but in the end either a tube or a combo of tube and piezo worked for me.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-1 Acoustic Pickup:

My Fishman system in my bass died. The cost of replacing the Fishman was close to buying a new acoustic bass, so I had the idea of using the SA-1 Acoustic Pickup solder into the Fishman 1/4 jack as my replacement pickup. It worked! However, it would be nice if the SA-1 Acoustic Pickup came with clip on connections, and not solder, and that way the option of replacing the current pickup would be much cleaner and faster. Just an idea, but either way, I like the pickup.

This pickup is easy to install. Would recommend connecting it to an end pin jack on the guitar. Sounds pretty good. Have to turn the amp up to get to an acceptable volume level.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SA-1 Acoustic Pickup:

Installed the SA-1 in my Fender 12-String Acoustic Guitar. Had some difficulty getting it into the sound hole. Had to loosen all the strings to allow the bar to go in flat under the strings and push straight down. Once in, it fit very secure. Next 30 min spent retuning the guitar. I like the short cable with a guitar jack allowing the pickup to remain permanent. The sound is great, and the sound control has an ample range working with the gain on the amp. Overall, very pleased!
