The Invader pickups (both bridge and neck) are amazingly powerful for passive pickups while retaining clarity for both individual strings and very good clean tones. Using them for their intended purpose of being overdriven/distorted, they are truly an amazing feat of electronics. They retain individual note clarity and chord clarity even at the highest levels of gain. I usually use them in my custom B.C. Rich JR V with a BOSS MT-2 Metal Zone through a combination of a Marshall Zakk Wylde mini-stack and Fender Roc-Pro 1000 combo using a signal splitter so both amps get equal input. Install is very simple if you use the included instructions, or easily customizable for advanced technicians/luthiers or people who have good general electronics knowledge. Truly amazing alternative to active pickups. All the benefits (clarity, high output, etc.) with no batteries or complex installations. Great product.

2 of these came on my Jackson KE-3 Kelly. It's the only thing I don't like about my guitar. They're loud as hell, but have really high gain, which is good sometimes. It picks up a lot of backround noise, and if you hit the body you get a really hollow sounding ring. It sucks for recording. If you get these I suggest you invest in a noise gate.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader Pickup:

Used this pickup to replace a stock pickup on a cheap Dean and couldn't be happier. The wiring was a bit tricky for me cause it was my first time. But the diagram that came with it was definately helpful. It doesn't have quite as much treble as some of the reviews say in my opinion. But you'll be happy none the less, cause it does sound pretty good. I feel it's a bit pricey for what it is. 60 dol would probably be more in tune with it's performance. I wouldn't use this pickup to replace emgs or something I got on a guitar worth 400 dol and up. Odds are your pickups on a 300 dol guitar are comparable.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader Pickup:

I put this pickup as well as the neck version in a very inexpensive Jackson Kelly guitar and the improvement is astounding. Seymour Duncan is known as the best balanced sound you can get. These provide a lot of power for a passive pickup so I backed the position lower than usual and there is no line distortion (can't think of the correct term) what so ever.

I put the invader in the bridge of an RG350 maple neck.
It opened up a whole can of Kaboom.
Just what is needed to play metal Rhythm.
Amps ( Marshal, Peavy, Ibanez ,Mesa. ).

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader Pickup:

This is truly a great pickup that exudes versatility. For my purposes both live and in the studio, it takes the place of my Strat's bridge pickup for a tone that has enough low end and punch to provide great palm muting and rhythm guitar while at the same time giving you the character and tone for lead parts. Versatile, and completely SILENT. That buzz that you get with a lot of pickups when you add the slightest amount of distortion doesn't exist with the Invader. It's a steal and worth the time an money, and this was my third Invader to date, it's going in every Strat I buy. One thing I wouldn't recommend: putting this one in a Gibson probably wouldn't bode as well as it does with a Fender.

when i got my les paul black beauty, the pickups were like, 57 classics er something. they sucked. even with this fender amp i had. i thought maybe it was the amp, so i bought a randall half and it still sounded too light. so i invested in these and now my floor shakes in D-tuneing. the seymore duncan sh-8 is what you need. they have so much out put that if you have a practice amp, and played these pickups through it, it would probly start smokeing and catch on fire. get them

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader Pickup:

This pickup is loved and hated for the same reason: DISTORTION!!! If you're into a clean sound you will not like this pickup since it overdrives an amp's clean channel. Its sound is imposing; it is not subtle and not for the timid. But if you're into distortion, read on.

I installed a bridge Invader into the bridge position of "Stunt Guitar", an HH Strat with the modern non-locking tremolo. It's output is nearly twice that of the factory pickup. This pickup is perfectly suited for Stunt Guitar, whose primary purpose is face-melting improvisational dive-bombing feedback solos.

It's designed for modern styles that require loads of crunch, and in that aspect is quite versatile when used in conjunction with the tone control. Any sound from 70s era King Crimson to Blink 182 is possible using only guitar and amp - the Pedalboard of Doom has five distortion pedals ranging from mild to extreme, though I rarely use them with this guitar.

Surprisingly, when the Invader is used with the neck pickup and the tone controls are set fully opposite of each other, Stunt Guitar nails Randy Rhodes' Crazy Train tone - pleasantly nasal, mid-rangey without the clucky sound which is characteristic of using both pickups together.

I'm tempted to find a neck Invader (the impedance and resonant frequencies are different than the bridge model) to see how much more lethal Stunt Guitar can become. As befitting of its output, the Invader gets a six-star rating from me.

Comments about Seymour Duncan SH-8 Invader Pickup:

To All the Musicians that gave it below a 4 because of

                    a) Hiss or

                    b) bassy tonality.

The hiss means your guitar is not properly grounded, specifically if it happens while you are playing it with no distortion, go get that fixed and do not blame the pick-up, also it could mean that whoever put the pick-ups in did not do it the right way.

                    The bassy tonality or (Too much distortion) means you have your guitar volume blasting at 10 lol this pick up is HEAVY you need to volume down to 9 or 8 for perfect sound/tone and you will get more attack than 99% of the pick ups out there;

Depending on the volume of your guitar this pick-up changes tonality, it is EXTREMELY flexible and can be used anywhere from metal to punk to pop or pop-punk, which is really amazing due to its flexibility. Not to mention Acoustically this pick-ups can give you an extreme amount of beautiful tone

Another tip, these pick ups work best on the bridge section!

I owned 3 different pick-ups in my life and this has been the quietest , the heaviest, the poppiest and overall the best sounding.
