Comments about Shredneck Zakk Wylde Signature Practice Guitar Neck:
Once again, I'm not trying to take anything away from what the shredneck is. Its cheap, portable, and decent for warming up your fretting hand... but not much else. The strings seem much closer at the scalloped picking area than on any of my actual guitars and this was obvious the first time I picked it up for some legato picking and completely overshot the b string while descending. This is a decent warm up tool, nothing more and nothing less. dont buy this thinking it can be tuned, either. This tool wasn't designed to produce guitar-relevant sounds, it is solely for the mechanics and motions of your technique, expressly aimed at your fretting hand. I personally would not buy again, but I am not resentful that I purchased it this first time.
I'm rating features on what the description of the items says it should have and do, and in that case, it has exactly what it says it does in the description. The padding for your leg is nice, and the included tuning peg covers are good too. scalloped "picking area" is nice.
Tuning pegs and machine heads are loose and wobbly. I know the strings are put on with very little tension, but the high E string on mine wasn't even set up to already have "bitten" into the tuning peg so it could be tightened. No worries I suppose. Fretboard is good, paint is decent... its not like we are buying a custom shop piece here people...
The shredneck definitely does have a niche that it can fulfill well enough. I guess since it came with a "gig bag" that drove the price up some, but seriously, when you pull this thing out of the box, expect a warm up tool thats more in the arena of being worth a little less.
Comments about Shredneck Zakk Wylde Signature Practice Guitar Neck:
The design of the Buzzsaw was excellent, I was shocked at the quality of the paint and materials for the price. The only reason I rated quality 4 is because there should always be room to improve. The only drawback to the shrednecks are that they lack enough weight to stabilize them, so it makes it harder to play scales extremely fast or sweep pick. However, when you go back to a real guitar, it seems like swinging 1lb after carrying 25lbs. And because it is slightly awkward, you build up muscles you never had the opportunity to before. So considering that, it does its job well.I would recommend these to anyone. They may feel a little clunky at first, but that pays off eventually. Just remember what it's for.
