I replaced a beat up Korg TM-40 with this Snark. The touch screen is nice and bright (small OLED like an older Sansa Clip or similar mp3 player), the beat is easily customized, and there are a number of sounds. I actually bought it because I thought the dog bark sound was hilarious, and it is. But then I realized that it's an excellent metronome in its own right, the silly stuff aside. The glossy plastic chassis does not feel quite as sturdy as my old Korg, but I wouldn't say it's fragile or cheap either. The touch screen works well and seems sturdy. The visibility of the screen in less-than-perfect lighting is really good, certainly better than anything else I've tried.

The only things I could suggest for improvement are for Snark to offer different color options for the chassis and perhaps not in a gloss plastic (which is cheesy and dated, in my opinion), and for a slightly higher quality speaker. I would say the current speaker is on par with other metronomes out there, but since this metronome uses sampled sounds instead of clicks, beeps, or blips, a higher quality speaker would really showcase this strength.

I bought two - one for me and one as a gift. I was VERY disappointed. The sounds (all of them) were AWFUL. Did not sound anything like "wood block" or any of the other listed sounds (except maybe the "bird chirp", which is useless - and it ran my poor cat out of the room!). In addition, the emphasized first beat was not much more distinct than the remaining beats in a measure. The silver lining in this cloud was the OUTSTANDING courtesy and service by the MF customer service representative (Justin) who handled my return request. I have Snark tuners, and they are great. That expectation added to my disappointment.

    Comments about Snark Touch Metronome:

Purchased this for my son. It is his first metronome. He will be using it when he practices his drumming. He has only had it for one day. The price was right. So far, it seems to be of decent quality. The sound quality is good. There is a volume control. There is a variety of different sounds that can be used. It seems to be alright. Time will tell.

The touch screen makes this so easy to use. Two taps on the center of the tempo indicator sets the tempo of your taps. I wish one could use the different rhythm patterns for each meter but one can get around that. My student liked it as much as I did. I would buy it again.

I use this little guy for practicing. I like the easy-to-use features. Very easy to navigate. I debated between this one and a Korg metronome, but decided on this one because of the "wood block" sound (which was not available on the Korg). I also like the little pull-out stand feature on the back. Good choice.

Not sure how long the battery life is yet, but I'm glad I bought it.

            Comments about Snark Touch Metronome:

This is a nice little compact portable metronome ideal for practicing and gaining control over the timing of your performance. Just a little bit bigger than a pack of tenor reeds (10 pack) it easily fits into your sax case so you can haul it around to different practice locations. Volume is adjustable per your needs. Or, you can silence it completely and just go by the visual indicator. Or! You can plug in a set of ear/headphones so you don't bother anyone around you. The touchscreen might take a bit to get used to. Have to adapt to where specifically touch and how soft/hard you may need to press. Of the six sounds available, the wood block, hand clap, or snare are the only ones I would consider using. The cricket, dog bark, or cowbell might be fun for kids but I don't find them appealing in my application.

Yeah, you can get similar functionality in apps you can install on your smart phone but that was not an option for me at this time. My current phone's memory is limited given the OS, photos, videos, and apps that are currently installed. Since I already have a great little tuner in my case, having a tuner/metronome app on my smart phone was just not a priority at this time. For those without a smart phone, this is metronome is a nice alternative. Follow directions and you'll be up and going in < 10 minutes!

I haven't had it long enough to judge much on the quality of it's build or longevity of the batteries. It feels fine in the hands and the touch screen responds well for its function and low cost. The manual states that batteries (2 AAA) will last longer if you use headphones. We'll see. In my experience it's the screen that will consume most of the energy and it will be on continuously during use.

Note: It advertises 15 rhythms. Just to clarify, that is 9 beats (not sure what difference is between beats 0 and 1?) and 5 rhythms. For beats 0 and 1, only one dot is displayed. for beats 2-6, all beats are displayed. For beats 7-9, only 1 beat is displayed.

              Comments about Snark Touch Metronome:

I've been teaching piano for a long time and I believe this is the best and "coolest" electronic metronome out there.

First: Let's start with the sound. It has several sounds, some of which are just for gags and laughs, like the dog bark, and the crickets. But, one of the sounds is a natural-sounding wood block. As we know, many electronic metronomes simply give an annoying, distracting, non-musical computerized bleep. The wood block is a nice touch.

Second: Volume is adjustable. There is another popular electronic metronome out there where the volume is not adjustable; and it's very loud.

Third: There are a variety of rhythms available including blues (swung) eighth notes and varying 16th note rhythms. Also, if you're sticking to a specific time signature, it can accentuate beat 1. I don't usually use or recommend accentuating beat 1 because if you make a mistake early in a measure and quickly correct it, you still have to wait until the metronome clicks out the rest of the measure so that accentuated beat lines up with where you are in the music.

Fourth: It has a built-in stand.

Fifth: It uses standard AAA batteries rather than hearing-aid or other hard-to-find batteries.

One thing to note, and this is important, in the user manual, it states, "Do not touch metronome screen while turning on power, because that can reduce touch sensitivity." In other words, I believe that at the time you're turning it on, it's calibrating the screen. If it seems like the touch-screen is acting strange, this may have been the problem. The manual continues "...If this happens remove and reinstall the batteries."

In all, it's a great metronome, and you cannot beat the price.

Finally, since it looks kind of like a smartphone, your students will think it's cool as well.

It's pretty neat with it's different rhythms. It's just a little hard to get it to change rhythms tapping the screen because it doesn't always respond, I am a new user of this devise and maybe it will get easier as I get used to it.

I ordered a few metronomes and they were all garbage. I'm a drummer and I wanted something with volume that I could use with my drums. If you want to play the drums full out just plug in and wear headphones. But for normal set practice or pads it's nice and loud. I still can't believe how this tiny machine can be so good. Trust me just buy it.
