Comments about Studio Trends 24" Side Car - Cherry:
That a company offered a 'furniture' side car for this price. I've been shopping for months for a nice rack that I can use in my project studio that didn't look like I made it out of plywood. There are a couple of other units out there, but reviews for those constantly emphasize the flimsy qualities of each. This unit is not flimsy at all.
It ships in two parts. The hardware ships with the metal side pieces (those are the things that look like they're out of the 80's making a weird 'x' on the side) and the panels all ship separately. The top and bottom pieces are a full 1" thick and are nice and heavy, side panels and stabilizer pieces are 3/4". Of course all of it is build-it-yourself mdf and uses cam-locks to assemble, but there's enough of them that the weight is evenly distributed. They even do that really nice thing where there's an extra of every single piece of hardware (screw, cam lock, etc). The metal pieces on the sides don't have to be installed (in case you're supper appalled by the look) but I would recommend it as they provide additional support for the front to back and (since they're only attached to the top and bottom panels) side to side support as well.
I work for a very large amp company and wouldn't hesitate to put one of our 40-50lbs amps in here (on the bottom only), of course it's not a touring rack (and it's only mdf!) so don't fill it with amps, but as far as a filled with processors, reverbs, and the like? It'll fill all the way up and be just fine. Tip to noobs: they are metal rails, be sure to get shoulder isolation washers to avoid any inadvertent ground transmissions.
Unit also comes with wheels (good luck trying to find that one something else in this price range), 2 have locks, two don't. Just because of the size of the top and bottom plates it's difficult to get to the locks, but if you're on carpet, does it matter? The Cherry top looks great too. Mad props to the guy/ team that came up with this, good job!
Comments about Studio Trends 24" Side Car - Cherry:
This is a review for Studio Trends Side Car 24 inch w/Cherry top. This side car is very nice looking and large. I purchased the cherry version which looks great! It assembled in about 75 minutes w/o issues. Studio Trends includes an extra of every screw, dowel, and cam lock which I thought was is a very nice touch. All I needed was a Phillips head screwdriver, some floor space, and about 75 minutes to assemble it.
Approx. Side Car Size - Width: 25-5/8 inches; Depth: 26-1/8 inches at the apex; Height: 29 inches w/casters.
Approx. Rack Size Width: 19 inches; Depth: 21 inches; Height: 12U.
The Side Car is wider and deeper than the rack portion. The sides of the Side Car contain an extra 2.5 inches on each side making the side car about 5 inches wider than a plain rack. The curved back of the Side Car extends about 4 inches beyond the rack back at its apex. The long angled posts/flutes on the outer sides are metal. The smaller triangle pieces next to the metal posts are plastic. (The rack rails come pre-attached to the sides of the Side Car so there is no alignment work necessary on your part.)
Mine came in two packages. One package contained the particle board parts (top, bottom, sides, and back pieces). The second package contained the casters, angled posts, triangles, hardware, and instructions.
If you dont already have rack mount screws to mount your equipment, youll need to buy some because the Side Car does not come with rack mount screws. The Raxxess Rack Screws and Washers 25-pack (PTSW25) worked great for me with the Side Car.
I use it on normal house carpeting and the wheels roll on the carpeting w/o any issues. The front casters have locking mechanisms, though I dont use them.
If youre looking for something that looks nice in a room and is functional, then this is it. If youre looking for something that fits in a tight, narrow space, then this may not be right for you.
I love mine. Its functional and looks great! I highly recommend it!
Looks great and sturdy.
Awesome value for a furniture-type rack. Least expensive. Great looking. Assembles easily.
