The only reason I wouldn't recommend this, is because the bass version of this is an overall improvement to the design, and can be used on both basses and guitars.
Using the string cleaner is self explanatory: you unclip the tabs and then clip them back once you've aligned the cleaning pads over/under the strings. From there you lift it up as you slide the cleaner from the bridge to the nut, and back. Clean up is easy, all you have to do is unclip the tabs to open the cleaner, rinse the pads in a drop of soap and warm water, rinse with water again, and let it dry overnight.
Fairly simple and easy to use, and handy in prolonging string life, but as others have pointed out, it's easy to mess up your fretboard if you don't lift the cleaner up as you slide it around the fretboard.

well the idea is its a plastic tool on a hindge so u can get full coverdge on your strings. once u get it on ur strings all u can do is pull it towards u and clean the bottom of the strings, if u push down on it ull be hitting the fret board so there for the top goes unclean, now it hasnt fallen appart and ive used it a few times, just imo i think its easy to use a rag of some sort, trust me ur money is better spent on somthing else.

Everyone who plays a stinged instrument should have one. The best string cleaner ever!! I have several and keep one in my bass cases, and practice area. After playing just snap shut over the strings and slide back and forth a couple of times.

Once I opened the 'cleaner' and slide it west 'n' east; the product, itself, demonstrated that I had made the 'best' purchase for the nuturing of my two (2) Acoustic [six steel-string] Guitars (e.g. Gibson & First Act). I like it. It works as advertised. I like that it's a simple, self-contained solution. I still am not sure if I think it works quite as well as my Blitz string cleaning cloth, but I appreciate that this is faster and easier to use.

i find it a little difficult to open after application on your guitar strings. this product does not work well with a low action guitar. my 1993 s 540 ibanez has action set very low, and i feel i will do more damage to the guitar than good when using this. however, you can disassemble it, and use only one side for cleaning the top of strings only. would not buy again.

Extremely quick & Efficient way to wipe strings, with or without other treatments (gently lift---don't press down---as you run up and down the strings). You can even insert the flat plate upside down to wipe down the frets and fretboard. I initially ordered one, now I have six. A long-overdue, convenient accessory.

I wouldn't recommend this product because of the low quality. My next purchase will be a certain cloth that's used to clean brass instruments. Dan Erlewine recommends that for cleaning strings.
I bought The String Cleaning Tool because a friend recommended it. The first thing that I noticed is that it is made out of plastic. The microfiber cloth on the inside that clamps down on the strings was also cheaper quality than what I expected. After I clamped it down on the strings of my acoustic, I slid it down the neck from the soundhole towards the nut and it worked fine until the 5th fret. At that point, the plastic side started to scrape against my frets. That's the area where the strings need the most cleaning, but this tool couldn't clean very effectively there. A thinner design for this tool would be ideal.
Low quality materials were used to make this tool.
