I bought an Ultimate GS-200 stand about a year ago and couldn't believe how much easier and quicker it was to set up compared to my three older-style multi-part stands. I was thrilled to get two more this week to finally replace my remaining old stands. My Alembic Spoiler bass and my two Ampeg Dan Armstrong basses fit very well on the GS-200 stands. Not only are these stands sturdier than my old ones, but they're twice as fast to set up and tear down, which is a big plus when dealing with three basses on multi-band gig scenarios that require speed and efficiency before and after the performance. I plan to donate my old stands to some young music students who may not have a guitar stand yet.

I bought this stand a couple years ago. I'm primarily a bassist but also play acoustic guitar regularly. Have used the stand extensively for both - with a variety of instruments. Generally, it's been okay, but I don't think I'd recommend it. I have run into the issue regarding the width of the bottom rests. You have to confirm that your instrument fits the stand. It might not. Unfortunately, someone recently packed the stand for me after a gig and must have folded it up without properly releasing the locking mechanism. The stand now seems to be ruined. Unfortunate that the main locking mechanism is plastic and easily damaged if forced. Other than these two issues, it's been a decent piece of hardware. If you get one, don't let anyone else touch the thing...

                Newer one has wider base

Comments about Ultimate Support GS-200 Genesis Guitar Stand:

My band has used the stands in the past with no problems. I bought a new one and the base is wider and doesn't hold my electric guitars. Its fine for acoustic, but not electric. Maybe they fixed it but, I haven't been informed.
The base is wider for some reason. My electric guitars slide through.

This is a great guitar stand. All of my guitars fit in this stand including my old Yamaha JR1 3/4 guitar! Honestly I don't know what these reviewers are on about, because it has NEVER dropped a single guitar at a gig or in practice. But it is a bit wide for my Yamaha Pacifica. I recomend this stand to anyone who wants a good, reliable stand.

Every one of my electric basses fall through to the floor. The tele and strat just barely fit, but I still don't trust it to hold them. The weight of the basses cause them to fall through. The two bottom rests are to far apart to trust my instruments on.

                Sturdy and secure

Comments about Ultimate Support GS-200 Genesis Guitar Stand:

Just got one in the mail today. This is a very sturdy guitar stand that is compact and easy to use. Based on previous review entries and my own experimentation, I can't say that I'd be totally comfortable putting an electric instrument on this stand, but since I bought this for use with an acoustic guitar, I have no issue with the stability. My only slight complaint is the neck retainer is awkward to use. It would be nicer if it was a solid part that slid out of the way instead of a floppy piece of rubber. I can't argue with the stability and security, though. Also, it would have been nice to have been provided with a case for storage in collapsed form. By the way, collapsibility is a major plus with this. No more multi-part stands to lug around, or flimsy floor stands that are easily knocked over. This product stands out (oh yes, pun intended!) Recommended.

                Too Wide

                By Where's My Mule?

                from Second City

Comments about Ultimate Support GS-200 Genesis Guitar Stand:

I play bass. I purchased one of these about two years ago and it worked perfectly for all of my basses. I just received a second one and the support brackets that the guitar rests on are set much wider apart than the first one I purchased. As the reviewer below said, virtually of all of my basses now slip through the brackets to the floor or come close to doing so. It appears they widened the placement of the brackets since I purchased the first one. In any event, it's now worthless for most standard size basses or electric guitars as they slip through the brackets. If they resolve this issue, everything else about this stand is great and it's the best design on the market.
