Comments about Ultimate Support TOUR-RB-T Round Base Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:
This stand is not for everyone. It isn't anywhere close to cheap, but I've never seen another like it. Although it is short, it definitely is not small.
It is larger than you'd expect from the photo (if you're using it for kick drum, the boom will be going down, not up.) With the upright shaft and the boom both fully extended, you can reach upward/outward (combined) to about 5', making this pretty useful around a drum kit. Most short stands are terribly unbalanced and unstable when you bring a boom up to mic a floor tom, snare, hi-hat, etc. This one is anything but unstable.
Of course, the base is large and heavy..... you can't fit a bunch of them in a small space. But when you put it down on the stage, it stays down, and it supports big, heavy microphones with no problem. We've been using Heil PR30s and PR48s, with no "slippage".
The other reviewer was disappointed in the telescoping boom. I haven't had any failures, but time will tell. Ultimate Support is generally pretty good about ultimately supporting their products, but of course, it's best if it simply never fails (looking for some wood to knock upon).
I agree with the other reviewer that there should be no compromise at this price point. That said, I haven't experienced any problems with this or other stands from this series other than the price tag. It's as hefty as the stand itself.
Comments about Ultimate Support TOUR-RB-T Round Base Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:
Bulky, heavy duty base and shaft (good or bad?). Telecoping boom assembly poor, tough to use in practical recording/live situations where a small stand is desired. Better options exist for much less $$$
This stand is supposed to be compact; it is not: the base is huge, the shaft and the vertical adjusting knob are huge too. It reminds me of some kind of preschool toy. It's so big it's hard to grip. Don't plan on fitting this in tight areas of drum kits, between amps, or in close spaces near acoustic instrument players. It's deceiving in pictures. It is substantially larger than comparable brand mini stands sold by MF. It is certainly heavy, depending on your application that's a good or bad thing.
I was most disappointed by the weak plastic collet assembly for the telescoping boom. It was worn or stripped or loose right out of the box. It couldn't even hold a standard 57 mic straight in front of a guitar cab.
Not a good value at all. There should be no compromises at this price point for a mic stand.
