A nice and smooth tone

Features:

I upgraded my Fender Superchamp to this speaker and I'm very happy with it. The only thing negative about it is I'd like a fuller bass from it. I think the issue is what can you expect from a 10" speaker in terms of bass response. I can't fault Weber for this, it's a size does matter thing!

Quality:

Very high quality in materials and workmanship. I love when I can buy it with a made in the USA label. I don't think you can find a better unit for a 15 watt, 10 inch application. I first got a Weber speaker for a Vox VT-15 that I still own. It uses an 8" speaker. After hearing it, I started using them

in all my amps. I've nevr been disapointed.

Value:

Great value for the money. This speaker sounds better than others I've heard for twice the price. I usually put a new speaker in most new amps that I get. After the OE speaker breaks in I look for a speaker to fill in the gaps that I hear. IMO, the cheapest upgrade for the money is in the speaker.

Overall:

I usually am partial to ceramic magnets in most of my amps. I wanted to try the Alnico type for a change and I was pleasantly surprised. Its got a smoother more rounded tone and I plan on using this amp for lower volume playing in the Jazz, Blues, Gypsy swing genre. It's a really good fit for this style of playing. I also like the "S" model with a later break-up point.

I finally decided on these speakers to put in a 4x10 guitar cabinet I was building to go with an early 70's Fender Bassman, to use mostly with guitar. They're phenomenal speakers and I'm definitely happy with my choice. They've got good headroom so they can stay pretty clean, but when they break up they're really nice. With single coils into my Bassman into the cab, I can get a really nice, warm clean sound that isn't sterile. With humbuckers I get a really nice speaker breakup (the Bassman is such a clean, high powered amp, the speakers start breaking up a bit earlier than the amp) that is crisp but not harsh at all. Really great speakers. And Weber is a great company to support - they're very personal and will answer and questions you have, and they make speakers to order!

Saturation Bliss

I purchased the Weber 10S in hopes of improving an already exceptional amplifier. I have a vintage 80?s Fender Super Champ Rivera design all tube amplifier.  Those in the know understand how collectable these amps have become. They were designed using the triode tube as part of the preamp circuit thus providing extra gain in combination with the 12AX7 and 12AT7 tubes. The resulting sound is now considered boutique and is a sought after studio amp for its excellent saturation qualities at low volume levels. My choice for the U.S.A. made Weber was that this speaker uses an alnico magnet which has natural ferromagnetic properties and thus a slightly different magnetic quality than typical ceramic magnet speakers. The ultimate proof is in the sound! The 10S has that classic Jensen alnico sound. It has mid-tone color and a compressed, creamy breakup. The harmonic overtones are pure honey. I have used this amp exclusively for years in studio recording and live play environments, but always thought it slightly brittle. Any discernable harshness has been replaced by detailed notes that musically roll off into a natural compression. The amp I love has now become an heirloom.  Weber gets 5 stars for their obvious commitment to quality, price and sonic excellence.

Weber Speakers Signature Series Alnico 10S 15 Watt 10" Speaker While I'm a guitarist (primarily country gospel) I also restore "boatanchors" (large old tube type radios).  I recently acquired a National NC-183 16 tube set circa 1950 in which the external speaker was totaled. It could have been reconed, but was also somewhat rusty and I preferred to replace it. NOT an easy task today as it's what one would call a "wide range" speaker as opposed to a "woofer".  While the receiver is not Hi-Fi, but rather a communications one (Ham/shortwave) it still needed something that sounded decent with PP 6V6 tubes. I was leary of this speaker as it's touted for "guitar", not voice, buy it appeared to be a fairly close match to the original physically (Alnico, steep basket, cone etc) and I bought it with a lot of "HOPE" that it'd work. Let me say it sounds GREAT for antique radio restoration, not boomy or distorted.  Just clean and full.  Phil KO6BB (my Ham radio call)
