Early experience is super

My preliminary assessment is that this is an excellent metronome.  I studied a little piano decades ago, and now I am coming back to the piano, and this time I want to prepare for personal piano performance much more carefully than I did as a child.  For this metronome, I wanted "very good" and "inexpensive".  I've only started working with the metronome, but all evidence so far tells me I've gotten "excellent" and "inexpensive".

Variable speed and volume controls are most important to me.

This Yamaha QT-1 Metronome was a good buy for me. I bought it 2 and 1/2 years ago and it still works great. I own two of them, one for travel, one for home. I have dropped them countless times, stuffed it into bags with books and other hard objects, and left them running all night. The batteries last literally for many months in these things! I recently tried to replace it, but after going to several gutiar shops, I could not find a metronome that was louder. The reason I tried to replace was because I wanted a metronome that was adjustable in 1 beat-per-minute (bpm) increments. The dial on the bottom of the Yamaha QT-1 goes from 40 to 120 bpm in 4 bpm increments. From 120 to 144 bpm it it graduates in 6 bpm steps. Finally, from 144 to 208, there are 8 bpm steps. My search was fruitless, so I just am just staying with the Yamaha, primarily because it is loud. By the way, it also has a small red light that blinks at the top of its dome, if you want to use it in silent mode.

I purchased one of these metronomes about four years ago, and I am very happy with it.  It doesn't have an annoying digital chirp like so many others do.  It has an adjustable volume control, which I love, and it's ruggedly constructed.  My one complaint is about its round shape.  I have had a difficult time of using it in scenarios where I have only a music stand on which to set it.  It tends to roll around instead of staying where I want it.  Other than that, I've been extremely pleased with it and highly recommend it to others!

I use this metronome and recommend it to my students   because it is accurate. It is calibrated like a standard classical, spring-and-pendulum metronome. For classical repertoire, this calibration is a familiar tempo reference. The concert A is also useful. There are two click tones.

I just bought this item & it works exactly as it should. A steady adjustable 'click' with 2 choices of sounds. The click is a digital sound, but sounds very much like a click, as opposed to a digital chirp, which I would find annoying. You DO have to pick it up to make tempo/volume adjustments, but quite honestly, it fits right in the palm of your hand and actually seems quite natural to palm it, flip it, roll the dial with your thumb, abd put it back down. Also, it has a 440Hz reference tone which could be handy.
