Comments about Ampeg Portaflex Series PF-115LF 1x15 400W Bass Speaker Cabinet:
I just got this cabinet (paired with an Ampeg Portaflex PF-350 head). I haven't used it on a gig just yet, but if tonight's rehearsal with the band I'm in is any indication, then I'm going to be in for some good gigs. I've been using Ampeg amps on and off for over 45 years, and I feel I've come full circle with this rig. If you like something that leans "old skool" (a head relatively devoid of "bells & whistles," and a cabinet with a single 15; no horn, no tweeter, ported design versus sealed) then you just might like this. My only issue is that the cabinet is a bit unwieldy, although it won't kill your back, give you a hernia or heart attack, nor is it a TRUE Portaflex; with a "sewing machine" type top that flips over to "reveal" the head. However, it does have two heavy-duty side-mounted/recessed handles, and the cab is pretty much vibration-free, so you can place the head (and even a tuner or a footswitch-type effects device on top) without fear or risk of it being jostled off. The removable casters are fine, as long as you don't abuse them. Most important, it delivers a sublime bottom-end sound, that, unless you're into all forms of Metal, or you plan playing in arenas or stadiums on a regular basis, this amp/cabinet setup will not disappoint. Best of all, it's an Ampeg. ...a standard bearer in bass amps, if ever there was one.
