Comments about Ampeg SCR-DI Bass DI Preamp with Scrambler Overdrive:

I am a jazz guitarist and bass is my second instrument so I do play some bass parts on my home recording stuff. This box is a great device for both instruments. I like to run it as a passive/active DI as well as a pre amp to some of my guitar amps. I can get a clean bass boost and some extra tone while far away from the amp so I have a better stage sound perspective.. It really makes a difference and it is my favorite EQ pedal by far. It is much more than an active DI and I am glad to have it as a new addition to my little pedal board.

Comments about Ampeg SCR-DI Bass DI Preamp with Scrambler Overdrive:

I bought this to use while rehearsing at home, and to have a backup in case my Mesa head craps out.

The pedal is housed in a sturdy metal enclosure. Everything including the knobs is very beefy, and looks like it will last a good long time.

The sound is AMAZING, especially into a power amp. Very Ampeg sounding. I would not at all hesitate to use this in a live situation.

The Aux in, and headphone jack make this the perfect rehearsing companion.

There are only 2 drawbacks I can think of:

        1. No on/off switch - because this sits on my music desk next to my DAW, I'd love to be able to power this down without bending down under my desk to unplug the power supply.

        2. IMHO, one of the foot-switches switches should be a volume boost.

        3. OK, really nitpicking here, but I don't normally use over-drive (scrambler) on bass. I'd give it up in second to have a switchable loop on the pedal. I could always add an OD if I needed one.

Comments about Ampeg SCR-DI Bass DI Preamp with Scrambler Overdrive:

In short...outstanding pedal. Previously was using the Tech 21 VT Bass pedal for years. The Ampeg SCR-DI blows the VT pedal away. Spend the extra money for the Ampeg. You can easily get the Geddy Lee / Greg Lake tone with this pedal. Built like a tank. Only complaint is the rubber feet on the bottom. If you want to remove them to add velcro for a pedal board, you have to find replacement screws to hold the bottom plate on. Ampeg should include (4) screws for alternate mounting (my opinion).

Comments about Ampeg SCR-DI Bass DI Preamp with Scrambler Overdrive:

I waited over a year to buy this to use as a DI box. Ampeg offered a rebate so I couldn't pass it up. I have a Zoom B3 but the DI out is pre-effects. This unit solves that problem and sounds great.

Comments about Ampeg SCR-DI Bass DI Preamp with Scrambler Overdrive:

As said previously, excellent pedal. Never owned an Ampeg before, bought this on reputation alone. Superb choice. I wanted a DI for my bass-to-interface recording setup. This pedal works perfectly.
The pedal alone works fine as a DI, which is what I wanted (XLR output using ground lift to XLR input on Saffire 26). The switchable EQ is great and I basically record with it engaged all the time. Nice simple controls, nice clean volume boost (I use a 12V DC power supply). The Scrambler unit is super. I get a nice distorted bass sound that really rocks. I'm extremely impressed. Using the "blend" function I can get a nice crunch bass tone that I blend in with the DI sound so you maintain the edge and the bottom end of your tone when you engage the Scrambler. Sweet setup, nice thought process Ampeg!
The unit is built like a tank, I could probably drop it down a flight of stairs, plug it in and rock on.
Has a lot of functionality. Input (from bass and aux sound like an MP3 player), XLR and 1/4" line out, two heavy duty switches (one for EQ one for Scrambler) and nice easy to read knobs. Unit worked perfectly for my recent bass track, super impressed.
Cons: We're nit picking here. The knobs are really nice, too nice. If you breathe on one it changes. Maybe a little more friction to keep the knobs at the settings you select. Also, no 'off' switch. I know it's a pedal, but I keep it plugged in all the time, I'd like a on-off rocker in the back. Finally, the EQ is great, and the volume is nice and clean, but I would like to be able to use the volume dial without the EQ sometimes. As of now you need the EQ engaged in order to use the volume control. I get that people want a volume boost when engaging the EQ; I'd like an option to not do that. Seriously though, I'm really nit picking. I am not returning this pedal. If it were to break (unlikely) I would buy another one immediately.
I don't own a bass amp. With this pedal I won't need to.
