This head is my main head that I gig with constantly. I use this head on top of a vintage ampeg b25 2x15 cabinet, with 2 modern Eminence legend 300 watt 8 ohm woofers wired to make it a 4 ohm cab to match the output of the head. It makes those 15's sing like no tomorrow! Crystal clear highs and massive ampeg lows. I hardly use any effects, my most used tone is just plugging straight into the head. Closest match to the original Tube SVT. If you want a tube bass amp, but don't want the problems that go with it? Get this head or the big brother Svt-450. You will not regret it. Sorry you can't get a set of 2x15's cause that is what makes her scream. :)

    Solid

This is a solid, workhorse head that puts out great tone, no matter what styles of music you play. The -15dB pad is a great feature for swapping between active and passive instruments.

Great Ampeg sound, good price, excellent value

    By Gbass5

This amp is a great value! Love the tone! More responsive than my previous amps. Plays clean or can make it growl. Works well with Eminence speakers. (15" & 18") I've owned Supro, Kustom, West, Vox, Acoustic and top line Peavey. Not even close! Tube classic next!

One of the best heads ever.....

This head rocks! I tried the cheap behringer head that is 300 watts...... but low frquencies through that head suck. The head rules, plenty of power to push my full stack! Spend the extra and get a nice head and not a pile of junk that won't last you.

For large gigs I use it with an old Sunn 2000s cab with JBL E140s, for smaller gigs an unknown cab with a JBL E-110. I used to use an old Ampeg tube amp that was running into dependability issues. It also didn't sound as good at low volume. This one sounds great at loud or low volume, is whisper quiet and is dependable as all help. Over the years I've tried dozens of bass amps & this ranks among my favorites and these is nothing in the price range that can beat it.

    Awesome

I bought this along with the SVT-410HLF, and this thing blows me away...Literally...I was about 2 feet away on a wooden stage, playing on 2 1/2, and it was pushing me away...Like a wall of sound...It's perfect to give that low tuned Deftones/Chevelle sound...But then I tuned the bass to Eb, and still sounded very tight...Overall very good product...

Its an Ampeg, you cant go wrong

    By Anonymous

Like all Ampeg products, this thing is well worth the money. They are the best at what they do, that says a whole lot. This thing looks great with its classic design, and sounds great, ive heard very few solid state recreations of tube heads that sound this good. Only issue is that the fan can make some unwanted noise now and again.

I don't own it yet, but im just about to purchase it, right now i have a gk 700 and its pretty nice, but i'd rather have a ampeg to go along with me ampeg 8x10! sounds great, i just wish there was a boost knob or woofer. but other than that, great job guys!

    Awesome tone with awesome power

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

This amp is definitely powerful enough for most venues. I coupled it with an SVT-410HLF cab and the sound is tube-like in warmth, maybe not with as much power as an all tube head but I doubt you'll be disappointed. It's very loud! It's always gonna be warm, although the EQ is very powerful, you can't really get rid of the warm sound. If punch and high end is your thing, check out Hartke. Overall, I recommend you try this head out. It's excellent!

Very tough, won't blow out very easily (I've beat it up for about 3 years now), and gets any where from low-end jazzy bass, to punchy high-end slap sounds!

    great rock amp

    By foxybass

    from winnipeg, manitoba

Great for my (rock-to-metal/punk) purposes. w/ 410 cab it's really powerful and perfect for anything but arenas or outdoors gigs. It does mimmick a tube amp well, but it doesn't have much tone versatility. Different mid shapes are difficult with this amp. However, note that the EQ is still really powerful. Unless I move to an all tube amp, this will be a keeper.

    Good Investment

    By Anonymous

I've been playing through this head for about 2 years with a GK 4x10 and a GK subwoofer and it will rattle the beer bottles off of the tables! My guitar player has a Marshall Mode Four head and amp and this bad boy will keep up until the very last decibel. I have a small problem with clipping if I get too bottom heavy, but it has good tonal variations to adjust to whichever room I'm playing.

Head gives great sound, not too expensive either. Ampeg also makes great cabs that sound good with this head!

    Excellent quality!

    By Anonymous

This head is an excellent value for the money! It provides enough power for me to be heard in my band, and it has 3-band tone controls and a nine graphic EQ so I can shape my sound exactly how I want it! I'm running mine through an Ampeg SVT-410HLF speaker cabinet, and it sounds fantastic! If you like good old fashioned beefy bass tones, this is definitely the head for you!
