OVERVIEW

A pedal for bass with 2 modes of tube-like overdrive and deep EQ editing.

The AMT BC-1 Bass Crunch Bass Preamp is built on custom technology by АМТ using JFET emulation of vacuum tube clipping. Its wide adjustment range, in combination with the convenience of a stomp box, makes this preamp extremely versatile.

«Bass crunch» BC-1 preamp is based on a two-channel circuit.

CLEAN channel shapes the classic bass guitar sound characteristic for «old» amplifiers and allows both velvet transparent sound and slight compressed overdrive depending on the position of Gain control.

DRIVE channel contains a number of over amplification stages and is intended for obtaining a modern sound from clean to totally overdriven. The High Mode provides additional possibilities in terms of range enrichment, heading towards higher sound density and aggressiveness. The adjustable 3-position mid-range filter combined with deep adjustments along the frequency ranges offer bassists rich possibilities in shaping the overdriven tone range.

Comments about AMT Electronics BC-1 Bass Crunch Bass Preamp:

I purchased this pedal last summer and was very excited to finally have a 2 channel bass preamp to blend clean/overdrive. Unfortunately, this pedal was a complete let down. The pedal sounded nothing like the soundclips on AMT's website, not did the EQ knobs affect the signal very much at all. Using the pedal with the speaker sim sounded better than the regular output; however, even still, I could not get any differences in tone. The unit was simply far too distorted, and the blend virtually did nothing to bring in the clean tone. In theory, this pedal would have been fantastic, but in actuality, it did not work as stated.

Another major problem was that the battery holder was manufactured in a way that caused the battery to flip-flop aroun inside of the pedal, constantly cutting out my signal completely. MF did rule that the pedal was defective due to the battery compartment. Perhaps there was more defective with the pedal than we realized, so I'm just going to hope that this was the reason for the poor sound. Nevertheless, I did not even bother with receiving another one because I hated the pedal so much.

Recording direct was just as bad. I ended up returning the pedal and going with an EBS Sheehan instead. If you want a pedal to blend clean and overdriven signals, then this pedal is not for you. If you want to distort your bass to the point where it almost unusable (or for an NIN-style effect here or there), then you may want to invest in this.
