Features 4.5 - because it doesnt a mid shaper but come to think of it, it might just make things complicated because with what it has, it does the job amazingly well.Quality 3.5 - ive read plenty of reviews and just like most of them, the XLR and guitar inputs are so easily damaged. The switch also doesnt last that long, perhaps it wasnt really meant to be switched off because after you activate it and find your sweet spot, you wouldnt want to switch it off.Value 4.5 - Its become cheaper so compared to other alternatives, its $150 well spent. It wouldnt make a really crappy guitar sound like a thousand dollars but if youre a gigging musician and cannot afford putting an expensive taylor or martin through the daily abuses of gigging, might as well get a decent yamaha or takamine that is 1/3 of the price (CPX700/900) and get the Aphex. Yould be a happy man.Overall 4.0 - Its a perfect tool only if they made it more tough. I use it with all my guitars, acoustic or electric, it does the job beautifully. I cannot say how much it will improve your sound so if youre up to it, try it and hear for yourself. Im sure you wont come out of that store without one.
Amazing how this small box expands your sound. I use it with a Takamine Acu-guitar with an active pickup. It's not just amplification of your sounds but individually adds a new dynamic to each string. This takes your sound out of the box you didn't even know you were in. Changing the battery is the only hassle with this pedal. Any 9v adapter will run it perfectly though.Superp addition to any players arsenal!
I run everything in my rig through this pedal. I'm not talking about just my acoustic i use this baby for my electric too. I turn the highs down to about 10 o clock and the bass all the way up to 5 o clock and this baby gives my guitar tone the bassy crunch you need to for that metal chunk! This baby is awesome for acoustics too, which is why I bought it, but now I run my whole rig through it. It takes your sound thats already there and gives it that nice warm tone! This baby is definitely my secret weapon!
If you have intentions of amplifying your acoustic guitar and have only the under the saddle transducer (piezo). I was skeptical, but my bass player bought one and we plugged it in and within five minutes I was convinced. If you get the newest model, it is phantom powered -- no batteries required. Why they didn't include this originally, God alone knows. But now it's there and that's a bonus. While the build quality is a bit weak, the switches seem a tad "cheap", once you set the switches, you won't be touching them again and the big switch on top will always be on.What it does for your guitar sound is why I gave it overall high marks. You will understand once you plug your guitar in and get the settings where they work for your instrument. I am going to be buying two more for each of my other guitars. And that is an endorsement you want to see, from a professional musician who knows what they're talking about... me.
This is not the way to go for an acoustic. If you think it's going to make your guitar sound more natural, it sounds more electric. If you think it's going to make your guitar fatter, bass is all I hear. Knobs are good, right? I doubt if you'll ever learn what to do with these knobs. Call me an idiot, but I can't figure out what this thing is good for. Give me a Boss box any day. I use a Boss Sustainer/Limiter and a Chorus. These are much more useful for acoutic. (I couldn't return it, because I broke my finger and couldn't try it out 'till it was too late.)
At first it seemed like nice EQ, but after really listening, I could tell that it was indeed a magic box. To me, it's close to having an adjustable tube amplifier, bringing out just the right amount of warmth and harmonics you need...and I thought my Taylor sounded awesome...now it's extra-awesome!
I use this on an Ovation Adamas guitar plugged into a Genz Benz amp. It definitely makes the bass stand out (without being too muddy) and the treble sparkle (without being tinny). The price is now competitive. More clarity than the BBE Sonic Stomp. The power switch seems faulty after 6 months, but Aphex is going to replace the unit under warranty. I definitely don't want to play amplified without my Aphex.
In a word, WOW! This little box brings out sounds I didn't realize my guitar was creating. Awesome little device in a durable package.I do wish the battery was easier to change, but from all reports I've heard, it shouldn't need a change that often.Again, WOW!
First off I love this product, it will make your acoustic guitar sound like it should cost twice what you paid for it. The only thing that I don't like about this product is when you use it as a DI the footswitch is bypassed and the only way you can turn off the effect is to hit the little wet/dry button on the actual box. This is very inconvient especially if you play live. Although I don't think there would be any reason you would ever bypass this amazing thing, but still control is nice. Another complaint I have is the battery life. It's pretty bad, it's best just to use a power supply. The sound that this produces is well worth the money BUT I can't help but feel that it shouldn't cost as much as it does. It shouldn't be more expensive than other stomp boxes. But match this box with a nice reverb sound, and you'll hear a sound that can only come from heaven :)
Excellent product. Trying to get an acoustic guitar to stand with two electrics, bass and drums is difficult. This little box really helped increase the clarity and crispness of the sound of my acoustic. The difference is startling.
