I bought this compressor about a year ago because my other comp seemed to suck the life out of my bass tone. This comp works very well, and is built to last. I'll probably use my old comp as a weight for my fishing line.
I have this aphex compressor for two years now. It's very transparent sounding.I use it with my Fender bass and GK amp. I would recommend this pedal, to any one looking for a great stomp box compressor. I keep it on all the time.
Pros: It's perfect for bass finger players and I leave it on all the time. Help improves tone and sensitivity. Great for my vintage amp head which has no limiter/compressor and it also provides a balance XLR DI. Cons: Price, I bought mine used for half the price which is worth it. I think $149 is too much. The pedal is a bit noisy with single coils at higher compression settings. I recently put Dimarzio's in my jazz bass and that solved the problem. Overall: I play both guitar and bass. I love the Aphex for bass guitar. Prefer my MXR Dyna Comp for guitar though.
It is easy to use for bass and guitar, Transparent and lots of range. I prefer it to my Keeley and MXR Super comp. The in/outs on the back are crowded and feel flimsy, but have not broken in a year of being moved around. It needs to be on a pedal board if you are gigging with it. I do recommend this unit. These two knobs are all you need 99% of the time. Supposedly the Demeter Compotator is best of breed, but it's hard to find and twice the price. I quit looking for a Demeter after I found this.
If you record you will not find a better compressor pedal for your guitar and amp...I record in my little studio and you will really notice the smooth sound of both your bass and guitar, I bet you can use this on Voice and keyboard or any instrument in need of compression...It has to be my favorite pedal now for me next to my overdrive pedal...I simply Love it...Jim..:=)I use it with my BlackHeart Head and Cabinet mainly...
This unit is outstanding. I love the sound I get clean, and with distortion,it's a great boost for solos and fills. The DI gives me a clean channel to send to the board, so the soundman can mix that with my effected signal. I won't be without this pedal.
Never owned a compression unit, now I'll never go without it! It dials up a wicked clean tone with lots of sustain for my Tele Plus (with FLS Red 'bucker in the bridge) into a Vox AD50VT. It would work for me as a boost for solos, except that I hate to turn it off! Simple design and controls means ease-of-use. It seems to be built well, too. I'm sold on this and I can't wait to try it's handy DI jack for my acoustic gigs!
This is an awesome pedal! I remember watching an audioslave concert, and the bassist, tim commerford, uses this pedal on most of his songs. I was curious and went to try it out one day and it is amazing. The punch it gives you is nice. definitely recommended.
I bought this thing because I wanted a more level volume from my bass that has a boomy "B" string. Well, I got that. But I got more. This thing makes every note I play have the punch of a heavyweight champion. My low notes hit in the gut, my highs punch square in the face. At the highest compression and volume setting, it tends to add a little growl. I'll never take it out of my rig.
Cleans and tightens up "muddy" overdrive, adds endless sustain, takes droning sounds out of lows, and harshness out of highs.
