OVERVIEW

The Electric Blue 180 offers fine Ashdown tone for players on a budget.

The Electric Blue 180 head produces 180 watts of Ashdown goodness via a fan-cooled, fast-transient power stage. The preamp section boasts active/passive instrument inputs, a VU-style LED input meter, 5-band EQ with Bright and Deep switches, front panel-mounted DI output, FX loop, and tuner/line out.

The mighty Ashdown subharmonic generator tracks the main signal and reproduces it an octave lower, and the level control lets you add just the right amount of low-end reinforcement--everything from a subtle thickening of the sound to unbridled, bone-crushing tone.

A 15" high-performance Ashdown BlueLine bass driver ensures exceptional attack, clarity, and low-end performance, while the extension speaker output can be used to connect an additional cabinet for use in larger venues. The cabinet is finished in a tough, scuff-proof carpet covering with protective corners and a kick-proof metal grille.

First off the amp I got looks different then the picture I got one with a meter to tune so I was excited about it. I think I saw it for 50$ more so thought I got hooked up. The amp is great on the clean setting. the amont of bass it has is amazing as well. but all the effect buttons make noise in the amp and not a little but a lot of fuzz. also we tryed to record on this and its not good at all it has a fuzz from the fan that you could probaly get rid of with a noise reducer but we don't need a noise reducer with our roland Guitar amp at all.

Wowsers

By Dagumol

This is the amp that could...and does. This thing has a ton of power. Loud and no humming you will sometimes get from other name brand amps of it's size. I have never had the volume up over 50% because it is just so loud. The 15" speaker really gives the low bass tones justice. It is also pretty heavy due to quality construction which keeps it from vibrating and rattling. I can easily keep up with a guitarist and drummer. Pure crisp sound with mid levels tone controls. Good luck in finding an amp at this price that equals in quality. Ashdown simply makes great products.

A lot of amp for the $

By Huge

Good luck finding another amp this well made with this level of power for the $. Clear and pretty darn warm sounding for a solid state. Big deep tone, Plenty loud for practice with a band - We have 2 guitar players with 2-12s and a pretty loud drummer. I think it would be fine for small to mid sized giggs, especially going 4ohmn through an extension cab (Then you get the full 180 watts). The subharmonic feature is nice, but more subtle than I expected. The VU meter really makes setting input levels a snap. My only real complaint is that the buttons (only 4 of them) feel a little cheap. Everything else seems rock solid and I love the retro Euro look it has. Looking forward to getting a couple ashdown pedals as well.

Deep Switch and controllable subharmonics, nice! EQ is nicely voiced too. This is a solid, great sounding amp especially for the price. Even has a built in DI so you don't have to carry a DI boxor get one from the soundman at the show.

Awsome amp

By Dan Brill

from Beaver springs PA

I bought this amp a little while ago and I love it.I play in 2 bands, so I get a lot of use out of an amp. I bought it to replace a broken 120 watter, and this one blows the old one away. The tone shaping is amazing, the bright and deep functions are perfect, and the extension speaker is great. It can keep up with the lowdest guitar amp and drum set, even without the extension speaker. A great amp for the money.

I love this amp. Produces the great Ashdown tone and has the power I needed. I plan on adding 2x10s to really boost the tone and volume. Highly recommend this amp. I was pumped too when I got the new style head with the cool VU meter. Its all about looks!

Great amp.

I'm very pleased with this amp. With the Deep and Bright controls, you are very much in control of the exact sound dynamics of your tone. I never really use the subharmonic generator, but it's a pretty cool toy to jack around with.

This Amp Is A MUST!!!!

I have not purchased this amp! But my brother-in-law did for his bass guitar! All I will say is, we both plugged in, cranked it, and still sounds crystal clear. But I wouldn't recommend it, our ears rang for hours after about 2 min. We also plugged our guitars in my mixer, and ran my mixer into the amp. This thing handled both instruments, plus our vocals with no problem! I don't think I have ever heard, used, or owned an amp as good as this one! I am purchasing one! This is a real beautiful, and well built amp!I SAY BUY IT!

Best bass amp i've ever used!!

By Ernieball180

from Utah

I love this amp in every way, i have used it now for over a year and havn't had the slightest problem with it. It has sound that can compete with my guitarists 4 12" speakers. Super good quality and just enough features to get whatever sound you want. And plus it looks awesome!! I have played at many shows with this amp and have never been drown out by the drummer or guitarist and have never heard the amp distort. The octave feature is really cool and sounds really good.

Great power and value.

By v_S19MfAd

I looked for about 6 weeks for a good deal on a great amp. I went to a few music stores and tried out some amps, but none of them had everything that I wanted. With this amp, I didn't have to compromise at all. It is everything I thought it would be and more. The sound is incredible.

Impressed!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought this beauty a few months ago, and it has done excellently. I looked at Behringer's ULTRABASS line and Gallien-Kreuger's Brat Pack. The ultrabass, although powerful, is not significantly impressive. I had already dealt unsuccesfully with a friend's broken Ultrabass, and before it fizzled its tone had not been particularly impressive. I have used GK's Brat Pack quite a bit, and I have not been seriously impressed. Its rock solid, but tends to get some distortion even at fairly low levels. I came across the Electric Blue, and it certainly is an eye-cathcer! The sub-harmonics sound swell, and can be adjusted from a lower level which just adds some beef to distinct thumping lower harmonics at high levels. The EQ as well as the Bright and Deep switches do every bit as much as one could hope for. I'm not sure if all are this way, but mine has a slightly different grill than the one pictured (which I think looks cooler) and has a needle input gage instead of an LED one. All in all, this amp is a dream come true, particularly for the price.

A Lot of amp for the money

By Satisfied customer-PNC5N

from Chandler, AZ

This amp compares favorably to amps costing twice as much. I had a SWR 400 watt head with two cabinets that was louder, but not by much, and the Ashdown's tone is better and does not distort no matter what the volume. You have complete control over the sound, from deep warm tones to clear highs.I plan to add another Ashdown cabinet to this amp ASAP to get the full capabilities.

Very Impressed!

By Audiolator

from Bonaire, Ga.

I really, really like this amp. Great tone, solid build, responsive and simple EQ,and a cool VU input meter on mine.I don't use the subharmonic generator much but, I suppose I'll give it a go sometime, depending on the song. As mentioned before, it is a subtle feature.Haven't gigged with it yet but, I'm sure it'll "cut the mustard." This is plenty loud enough by itself at practice. I hook-up another 1x15 cab to bring it to 4 ohms (full wattage) and it just sings running the EQ near flat with a bit of a dip at 220 hz. Kinda wish it had a headphone out for home practice. Not complaining by any means though, this is a wonderful amp!

Fantastic!!!

By Juan-IQU_F

from Miami, FL

After playing through this amp there is only one thing that came into my mind: I have found the one. Ive played several genres including metal, funk, jazz, punk, and blues through it, and its EQ allow me to find the perfect setting for each. It handles slapping excellently. This thing is a tank. its is very well built, sturdy, and it seems to me it will even outlive me. the only problem I found in the entire amp was that it would be great if it came with side handles, since it is a bit of a hassle to carry it (thats why i gave it a 4.5 in features). I solved the problem by buying a little cart that allows me to take it everywhere I go.I have used this for small gigs and it handles it perfectly. Its heard all the way in the back of the room, and I'm even told to lower my volume! it doesnt distort the sound even at very high levels.I have also used the D.I. output during recording sessions and the engineer asked me to let him use it for other bands! The recording came out amazing!I have used a heavy distortion pedal through it and it handled it perfectly. Ive also played a guitar through it and it handled the highs pretty well. After my experiences with this amplifier I have become loyal to Ashdown Engineering and my standard for a great amp has been raised to what their amps deliver. Recommend it to anyone.

Great amp

This is a pretty great amp. I've owned it for about a month now. You can turn it up all the way and very loud and perfectly clear. Theres not to many features but it's definitley worth the money. Hook this baby up to an extension cab and its twice as good.

Ashdown Electric Blue 15-180- Great amp!

By MarkHarclerode

Ask me a question

After trying many, many combo amps, I found the one for me. The ashdown Electric Blue 15-180 is the best sounding and performing amp in its class. It has a very good bass tone which is all important, and has enough room to adjust without being too complex. THe only minor complaint is the fan is fairly loud, but this thing is nice and quiet, no static. Good thump, nice sound with bright switch pressed.
