Adds distortion like you've never heard before.

During more than 30 years experience playing bass and recording with iconic rock musicians including Zakk Wylde's Black Label Society, David Lee Roth, Ozzy Osbourne, Slash's Snake Pit, White Lion, and Megadeth, James LoMenzo envisioned a bass drive effect that operates entirely unlike other distortion pedals out there—That vision has been made a reality with the Ashdown James LoMenzo Distortion Pedal.

In the Ashdown LoMenzo Hyper Drive Pedal, a band of frequencies within the midrange of the bass signal is filtered out and the distortion effect is added only to this band. The filtered frequencies can be "tuned" to the precise range that gives the optimum effect. The degree of distortion available from this Ashdown bass pedal is variable from a subtle breakup to huge overdrive, giving you an exciting range of extreme effects for bass to be created. The distortion effect can then be mixed with the original dry bass signal to maintain a powerful, full-bodied bass tone with distortion overtones.

Features

  • Adds distortion only to the midrange for a unique sound
  • Total tonal tweakability for just the distorted sound you're looking for

Comments about Ashdown James LoMenzo HyperDrive Distortion Bass Pedal:

James Lomenzo has some good videos that describe the pedal. This can provide heavy distortion, but I tune the frequency knob so the hyperdrive only affects the mid range, then I use the mix control to bring the bass back in. This pedal is great for metal, it helps you cut through the mix and add a litte punch to the strings. If you have a compressor, even better. HIGHLY recommend this to rock/metal bassist who want a clean tone, but a little extra punch!

Comments about Ashdown James LoMenzo HyperDrive Distortion Bass Pedal:

Look, this pedal completely blows away ANY overdrive pedals I have ever used. I am still quite new to learning how different effects work, but when I plugged this baby in for the first time, I was amazed at just how many different tones I can get with this pedal. I waited a long time for Musicians Friend to get this pedal in stock, I mean a LONG time, and it was well worth the wait. I have owned other effects pedals before, and even a Boss ME-50B multi effects pedal, and this just totally blows everything else away. I am very impressed by just how many different tones I can get from this, and I promise if you get it, you WON'T be disappointed. I play on a MarkBass 102P combo amp, and it sounds amazing through it. Bottom line, this pedal kicks!!!

Comments about Ashdown James LoMenzo HyperDrive Distortion Bass Pedal:

I tested this pedal on my own rig: Gibson bass, Ampeg portaflex 500 through 2x12 Bag End(4ohm) -a big beefy sound with great tone. In any knob configuration on this pedal, when I clicked it on, the low end just disappeared. There was no clean low frequency, as claimed by Ashdown, even with low drive, low mix and high input settings. This pedal cut out tons of bass, even at its most bassy setting. I tried every setting multiple times and could not get the bass push with the pedal on to match the push with it off. I could get a decent sound if I changed my amp's bass settings up, but then clicking the pedal off would cause the bass mix to be too high. I think it would be fine if the bassist was going to keep the pedal always on, and dialed in the amp's settings to suit the pedal, but it would not work for someone that clicks distortion on and off mid-song or mid-set. However, I did really like the "Q" switch; it made a really hot distortion sound--Maybe good for thick guitar riffs.

              Bass Tone Galore!!

Comments about Ashdown James LoMenzo HyperDrive Distortion Bass Pedal:

I got this pedal about 6months ago because it looked tuff and the reviews were good. Also i heard what it sounded like and sum of the things it could do on Youtube. When i recieved it and opened the Box, it was unlike any other pedal. I Picked it up out of its box and could'nt believe how heavy this pedal was,its a freakin tank. The Build quality is exceptional, It feels like 18 guage steel and the roll-bars protecting the VU Meter feel like a Masterlock!! After many hours playing with it, i found that you can get the Tone of atleast 15 different Bass guitars and when you run it through a processor the options are ENDLESS! Also 9V Batteries last 4ever, i had 1 last 2months and i play it around 20hours a week!!! BUY THIS PEDAL AND YOU WONT NEED DIFFERENT BASS GUITARS TO CHANGE TONES, I HOPE MF GETS THE OTHER VERSIONS OF THESE PEDALS TO SELL,I WOULD LOVE TO ADD THE BASS CHORUS PLUS AND THE DUAL BAND COMPRESSION TO MY CHAIN.THANK YOU MF FOR OUTSTANDING SERVICES!! YOU GUYS ARE MY #1 GO 2 FOR MY MUSICAL NEEDS!!!(And thanx J-DOGG 4 introducing me,Lost Picks!!!)

              Fuzz to Fire

              By Anonymous

Comments about Ashdown James LoMenzo HyperDrive Distortion Bass Pedal:

I ordered this kind of on a whim, but I knew about it to begin with. I had been looking for a good distortion pedal for a long time, and none struck my fancy. After only a week of messing around with this pedal, I was in love. The controls weren't too intuitive at first, but once I had an hour or two of messing around with them under my belt, they were second nature. The quality of this pedal is top notch. All the knobs are securely attatched and turn smoothly. There is no crackling as knobs are adjusted. And most importantly, it is very durable. What I really like about this pedal is that you can mix whatever level of distortion into your clean signal as you want. So, for example, you can have a really clean sounding tone that has some light fuzz underneath it, some all around fuzz, or fiery distortion. Great sound molding. The truth is, I haven't figured out all of the sounds I can get with this thing yet, but I can easily say that I think this is the best distortion for bass out there. I am ver happy I got this pedal.

              best I've ever heard

Comments about Ashdown James LoMenzo HyperDrive Distortion Bass Pedal:

After seeing a John Entwistle solo on YouTube, I have been searching for that sound of his. He has 2 amps. One clean, one distorted. Most bass distortions just send you into the fuzz zone when activated. Mind you, this will do that if that's what you want. The thing I love about this pedal is that you can have 'em both. There is no coloration of your dry signal. The distortion is really good. What it does is it only send distortion to the exact frequency that you set and nothing else. It is slightly fuzzy distortion, but it is purely musical. I listened to many higher dollar bass pedals, but this was the only one that produces a pleasant distortion. It's a tone tweakers dream. So many tones possible. Built like a tank and good looking, too!
