Honestly I was just getting this because I was low on money and needed a replacement real bad. My GK blew and considering my band plays quite a bit of shows we needed something to pick up the slack thats super cheap.

I play Deathcore and needed something with good tone that would cut through with the low end. This head blew my mind. I took it outside where we practice plugged it in and instant head explosion. Our old head wasnt very loud and my wife couldnt hear it in the house. But this head, she heard all the way on the other side of the house. haha.

The features are good but the Ultrabass is kind of pointless. It actually makes your overall tone slightly muddy but considering I didnt buy it for that feature it doesnt lower my rating.

Ive played through the all kinds of different heads and although you literally get what you pay for, I wouldnt apply that to this head. Its cheap, its loud, its sturdy, tons of features and over all enjoyable, id recommend this head to starters, experienced and professional musicians all around.

    It is that good.

I have used this amp for about 3 years now in an active band. This amp is owned by one of my band members. I play in a few different bands, therefore I choose to use this amp at practice to avoid lugging my personal rig from rehearsal space to rehearsal space. I have been a gigging bass player for about 10 years. I consider this amp "ok" at best. There are some good things about it, such as the power and eq range. However, when I play a gig, I opt to leave this at the practice space and use my own rig. While the amp has plenty of low end, it lacks definition and clarity that todays music demands. I play modern hard rock/ metal, and even though I get the lows I need from this unit, it cannot produce the piano-like clarity I require. I have had to use this at a gig once (larger venue)while my amp was being repaired. Although I was unhappy with my stage tone (not volume), I had an excellent sound out front thanks to this units Pre-EQ D.I. feature which is awesome and works as well as most D.I. boxes as long as its not set to PostEQ, which makes its output affected by the units' poor preamp. This feature along with its power section and reliability are its only saving graces IMO. I would recomend this product to anyone in their first band who needs a cheap amp thats capable of loud rock band volume. However, if your planning on taking this show on the road, I would spend a little extra and get something with better tone. Id also like to add that the preamp clips easily even at low gain levels on a passive instrument. The Ultrabass feature is basically a "mud" knob and is pretty useless. The tuner out is a cool feature but seems pointless to have mounted on the front of a non-rackmountable amp. Now that Ive got all the bad out of the way, heres the good. This amp is very loud and powerful, has a great D.I. and best of all, is very reliable and affordable. For what I use it for (rehearsals, and as a backup rig) I am pleased with it. It has no problem keeping up with a loud band and can acheive decent sounds for different styles. For the money, you cant touch anything that has the same volume capabilities. I give this a 3star rating due to its poor tone compared to slighty more expensive bass amps.

Comments about Behringer ULTRABASS BX4500H Bass Amp Head:

I have been using this bass head for about 3 years now. It has not had a problem handling any pedals save my compressor when the volume is at 100%. Not really a huge problem for me though. The sound is pretty good for a low cost head. It is a work horse and has everything you need for a decent bass sound. I play in a post-rock band and a funk band. I like that deep bass sound, much like sublime or good dub music. I want to hit people in the chest with sweet awesome bass tones! GIVE ME ALL THE SUBS YOU HAVE! This amp allows me to do so. I use it paired with the matching 4x10 behringer cab. So far, I love it, and so do all my band mates. Does it have that tube "warmth"? Nah, not really, but when playing with 7 string guitars, it still finds a way to cut through. For the price, it beats out a lot of other competitors with better reputations. I tried a hartke head similar to this one on the same cab, it didn't hold a candle to the tone of this amp.
I also agree with most reviewers, the octave function can muddy up the sound, but I keep a small amount on, just to thicken up the tone a bit.

Comments about Behringer ULTRABASS BX4500H Bass Amp Head:

First, I made sure that the speaker cabinets were phased together and wired to end up in 8 ohms. It has the ability to thump your chest and ears close up-within 10ft, deep rich sound. farther out it lessens but still gets the bass out there. I probably won't use the ultrabass option which is the same thing as the octave divider pedal. I don't care for that sound but I do like the deep option which is much more clear. Also I like the shape option and the full sound it provides. I have set all knobs at noon to 1:00 position. I have set the gain at about 9:00 so that it doesn't peak out and distort. The members of the band loved the deep bass sound on the stage and I was afraid that I was drowning them out, but out front it was balanced well with the others. It is a great amp for the price and I needed a back-up for my antique ROAD220 Bass Amp which I have had to repair when I push it too hard. I like the old school bass sound and this Ultrabass 4500H does just that. It will bring the ladies out to the dance floor. Just make sure your cabinet(s) are set correctly and you will feel it. This amp is happier also with 4-string basses rather than the low B 5-string, so play it easily. Metal players can adjust more Trebel and really crank it. Great for indoor gigs and good for most outdoor venues. OK, in summary, if you have learned bass on a small amp and are now in a rock band and need to go bigger, this is a great buy. Rock-On !

I used this as a backup to my Eden wt550b and my Aguilar DB750. Ran it with Eden 210xst/xlt or with an old Marshall 215. For the money, I don't think you can find a better little rock/blues/funk amp. Sonically, it holds up well against the big boys--I'd say it has most in common in terms of basic sound with Ashdown and Trace amps.Mine never had any problems--bought it 6 years ago. I highly recommend it

I play bass in a Dokken and a Metallica tribute band and this head replaced a Hartke and it is insanely awesome! Highly recommend it to anyone looking for a low cost but powerful amp!!! I run it through a 2x12 and it sounds just as good at rehearsal volume as it does in a live setting by having it run through a DI box or at a recent show with no mikes we did. Great freakin amp!!
