OVERVIEW

Neve signature, ultimate tone.

The Burnley is a distortion pedal with a 100% analog circuit which delivers hot crunch to high-gain annihilation-with added tonal magnitude-thanks to a custom transformer designed by legendary audio pioneer Mr Rupert Neve. Flip the Fat/Tight switch, twist the gain, tone and level controls and transform your mortal guitar tone into fire-breathing pandemonium.

Masterminds Reinhold Bogner and Mr. Rupert Neve have teamed up to produce superb audio-effects pedals that serve up rich, buttery tones, ultra-dynamic response and a stunning, three-dimensional sound quality inspired by the classic mixing consoles of the 1960's.

Mr. Rupert Neve is a living legend renowned for having designed professional recording equipment and early large-format mixing consoles which feature outstanding sound thanks to his custom transformer-coupled inputs and outputs. Countless iconic rock and roll records were cut with Mr. Neve's equipment including such classics as "Rumours" by Fleetwood Mac, "Damn the Torpedoes" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and Nirvana's "Nevermind" to name just a few.

Mr. Neve has received the Lifetime Achievement Technical Grammy Award, is an inducted member of the Mix Hall of Fame, has been named man of the century by Studio Sound Magazine and was selected by his peers as the number one audio personality of the 20th century, and continues to design into the 21st century¦

Comments about Bogner Burnley Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have owned this pedal for about 6 months now and thought now that I have spent some time feeling it out how it responds with different amps and guitars, I was now mildly qualified to write a small review. This has a ton of gain. The more you turn up the level, the more gain unleashes. It is extremely responsive and has touch sensitive harmonics. It is very smooth sounding depending what amp you play through but it doesnt get very bright... My personal favorite setting is Level at 12 o'clock, Gain and Tone all the way up and the switch in the tight position. I own a Bogner Alchemist and a Fender Supersonic and play a PRS Mccarty. My honest opinion is the pedal sounds better through the Alchemist. The amp seems to have a natural compression that really helps smooth out the tone. Through the Supersonic, it tended to have a sort of thin "Squished" and boxy or fizzy sound if you will. I suggest trying this on multiple different amps before making judgement. This pedal reminds me of a Suhr Riot but the Riot has less of that "Squished" sound and picks up on brightness where the Burnley leaves off. A lot of people love this pedal but it does take a bit of getting used to.
Watch the youtube videos by Sam Vilo to hear it with a Strat. There is a review by Bret Kingman on youtube as well and he plays it through a Supersonic and you can really hear the "squish" I am referring to.

Comments about Bogner Burnley Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I used the Bogner Burnley live for the first time today, coupled with the Bogner Wessex and an amp/cab sim pedal. Just beautiful. I think the Rupert Neve Designs audio transformer must impart magical qualities, or something, because it produced such a delicious crunch that was both distinct in the mix but not fatiguing to the ear. I've become a fan of Rupert Neve Designs, and the fact that this (and the Wessex) utilize a high-quality, RND custom audio transformer was a big reason why I bought this.

Funny, waaaaaaaaaay back in my youth, I started with a RAT into a clean Peavey combo. As time has moved into the present, I've come to absolutely love the sparkle, and other ineffable qualities, that tubes can impart to a guitar sound. Top-notch tube modeling through powerful DSP can do the same. This pedal, though not tube-driven, gives me a similar experience: an ineffable sweetness to even the highest gain settings (fed by a high-output 8-string guitar, no less!) that is very satisfying. Of distortion pedals in this general price range, this is like finest of wines. Expensive, but worth it.

I've read reviews here and/or elsewhere (can't remember) that implied this pedal can't be used for high-gain metal. False! This pedal can do it all. If you're doing metal, you'll probably want to use high-gain pickups, anyway, so that the pedal gets a nice, powerful signal. However, I'm guessing this would sounds awesome even on lower-gain pickup. It just sounds so good (to me!).

Finally, I've never had the "Level" knob set more than 1/4 of the way up, because of the insane amount of boost this thing can produce. Same with the Wessex pedal, I never take the "Level" knob up very high because it can pump out an insane amount of boost to the signal. That's another really nice plus with these Bogner/Neve pedals. They are amazing boost pedals without even using any of the aforementioned features. You could front a tube amp with this as an amazing/clean/delicious boost pedal. But for that purpose, I'd recommend the Wessex not the Burnely, since that's what the Wessex does so well. Still, the Burnley as a lead boost, or even a crunch boost (with the Burnley "Gain" knob turned up) would be amazing. I use high-quality amp/cab sim DIs, and that sounds really nice, so I think this pedal would work with any halfway decent amp, though best with high-quality gear that has high-quality innards.

Comments about Bogner Burnley Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal has the most body of any of my pedals. I was afraid it would sound too much like my zendrive. While it is quite buttery smooth, it gives a huge boost that is neither brittle or glassy. I find it sounds best with gain turned up, and does not function as well at overdrive levels. You don't always need much huevos to fit in the mix, but this pedal is fun since it delivers more than I am used to. This one is smooth, high gain, and big sounding.

I don't know how they got a Bogner amp in this pedal but they did. Just get this pedal while you still can and thank me later. Cheers
