Initially I felt this pedal would take a lot of getting used to, but it was surprising easy to use. The learning curve was relatively short. This is one of the best delay pedals out there, and it is immensely popular. I see it on pedalboards all the time. This pedal doesn't really do anything amazingly, but it does a lot of things pretty well, including:

    • sound-on-sound (looping)
    • analog delay
    • tape echo
    • dual delay

It also has a ridiculous 23 seconds of delay time possible, so there's pretty much nothing you can't achieve with this pedal. You can easily dial in the exact number of milliseconds you want, which can make this pedal a godsend for some or just tedious for others. I find it nice, and the special dial makes it easy to fast-forward through the delay time range. You can store 4 unique delays on this pedal and can recall them easily with one of the foot switches. If you select "manual" and have the delay mode set to "sound-on-sound" you can easily loop and go to four different delays during a single performance. Very versatile. You don't get an excellent analog delay or tape echo (best to get the MXR Carbon Copy and BOSS RE-20 Space Echo, respectively), but they are adequate, and you still get the flexibility of 23 seconds of delay time. The Carbon Copy doesn't offer much more than 2 seconds. Feedback and effect level are pretty standard (the feedback can be adjusted to create infinite repeat, which is nice). There are a few interesting alternative delay modes, but I have not found them to be very useful, though I am sure some people have put them to good use. The Dual mode is particularly nice. One cool thing that could have been done with this pedal is real-time loop time adjustment, something you find in pedals like the Digitech PDS-8000. It would have made this pedal all the more valuable. But, still, great for the money, and the frequency at which it's seen on stage and in the studio should tell you how useful it is.

Great sounding unit...no doubt about that. However, The unit can not be powered by my voodoolabs power supply....must use boss wall wart or batteries...not good. No low batt indicator...unit goes dead with out warning. Don't like the "Toggle through" format. Can't hit patch #4 from #1 without going through 3&4 first. I like the line 6 style of buttons "on demand."I sold my DD-20 on eBay and went back to 3 seperate boss delay pedals ganged together with butt connectors. Much easier to use on the fly, but the sound quality and versitility is not there. Therefore, the DD-20 was "Almost Great", unfortunatley not in the user friendly department.

Comments about Boss DD-20 Giga Delay:

Took it out of the box and began to use it. Very user-friendly for the simple guitar player like me. Easy to set the four presets and great for the live show. You can change to another setting on the fly during a song or for the next one. I originally bought a delay rig much more expensive and should have bought this one right away. Do yourself and your band a favor and get the DD20.

Comments about Boss DD-20 Giga Delay:

After more than 25 years of use my Boss analog Delay (DM3) had become too unreliable to use in performance. My intent was to replace the analog capability as i also have a Boss Digital delay(DSD2). The DD-20 has an analog setting but so far that aspect of it's performance is disappointing. All the other capabilities of this pedal are impressive. I've only had it a week and i'm still learning but i love the programable settings and the clean sound it channels. Even though i've lost that true analog subtlety, i feel like i've stepped into the 21st century with the DD-20.

Comments about Boss DD-20 Giga Delay:

Someone said it doesn't work with Voodoo Power Supply - WRONG. It works on both output 5 or 6 with regular included power chord. Might have to switch dip switch, can't remember - but it certainly works.

I use delay...A LOT. Dotted 1/8th note is a thing of beauty. Play lots of worship music, U2 - just gave myself away. All of the delays are great. Easy to use. The modulated delay is one of the best simulations of the Edge's earlier sounds that I have found in lower end pedals like this one. I have the DL4, Nova Delay and this Delay on my board an I always use this one for modulated delays sounds...anyway, I love it.

Comments about Boss DD-20 Giga Delay:

I've had this pedal for months, and it's worked very well for me. I use it in place of my GT-10B when I don't absolutely need to use it, or when it's impractical to use it.
My only problems with it are not enough memory slots, and no way of cycling backward and formard instead of just forward.
Also, I don't like the dual mode because one of the times can only be set up to 100ms. If both could be set to anything needed it would be much better.
Despite these problems, I would still buy another and/or recommend it to a friend.

So this thing is the greatest pedal yet. I have a few and this is the most fun to play with. The looping feature is awesome. Used to have the digitech gnx3 with the 8 track recorder and that was nice. and this is definitely not 8 tracks but still can spend hours looping and soling. Sturdy, it feels like you can drop this thing off a building and other then the knobs it would be fine. All in all, I love it. Thanks Boss!

I traded my nova delay for this. I liked the nova delay, but it was a pain to play with live. The DD-20 however is super easy to use live. I test drove the dd-20 and it just made switching from presets super easy. The nova's preset switching is stupid, the dl4 does not have a display for bpm's or ms's, the vox delay lab is just to new for me. Plus, its built like a tank. Get the footswitch, and it becomes super easy to use live for any application. the twist and warp modes are fun too..

Comments about Boss DD-20 Giga Delay:

This pedal is hands down THE easiest digital delay to learn and use in a live setting. You get 4 presets and an additional setting to whatever you've got the knobs tweaked, Stereo In & Out, and the option for external Tap Tempo. But the best part is the ability to switch presets quickly with a simple tap; no more bending down and tweaking mid-song.

Tonally, I rate the DD-20 an 8 out of 10. It takes up a lot of space on the board (even more if you opt for the external tap tempo), but you can literally do ANYTHING with it. Oh, and Boss built this pedal like a tank so it'll last forever.

Why are you still reading? Go get yourself one now!

Comments about Boss DD-20 Giga Delay:

This pedal is so cool. I set it to "Tape Delay" with all control knobs center and Delay at about 250 to 275. Used a 12 String Acoustic and had close to the Original sound of "The Hymn" in E. The "TWIST" is also really cool for example to end a song in a bang! You Just hit one hard Power Chord, then hold left pedal down until the sweep "Ascending/UP" is as high as you like, then reverse sweep "DOWN" by letting go and one more tap on left pedal to fade out the "TWIST" effect while it is descending the scale. You can start to play immediately using last sound setting where you left off, once TWIST decays to normal again. Also has 4 programmable presets for Various DELAY settings. I played on a cheap Strat copy through a mini-portable PEAVEY practice amp and it sounded like a sweet Eric Clapton Solo from a Stack. Also love the Stereo Headphones Jack: great for practicing with just a guitar, headphones,gt. cable & the batteries only!
