The legendary tone of the 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb in a stompbox.

In conjunction with Fender, BOSS designed this stompbox to re-create that legendary tone. Features include the same controls found on the original Deluxe Reverb: Level, Gain, Treble, Bass, Vibrato, and Reverb. The FDR-1 pedal also functions perfectly as a pre-gain pedal placed before an already overdriven amp to add the tone character of the Deluxe Reverb.

I have had this pedal for three years, and it recently died on me. I sent it in to Roland, and they sent me back a brand new one, no questions ask. It says right on the box they have a 5 year warranty, and they stand behind it!As far as the pedal, it is my favorite. I play my fender strat through this into a peavey windsor all tube half stack, and the sound is GORGEOUS. As with anything, don't go overboard on the reverb. Just a little reverb and you can get gorgeous clean, crank up the gain and you get a sweet little overdrive.I never have enough $$ to buy a bunch a pedals, but this single one makes my tone just what I want it to be.

This pedal had the potential to be the perfect compliment to a solid state amp, or any amp without built in reverb and tube gain. I bought it to use on my Fender Pro Junior. But due to serious defects, the pedal falls short.

The sounds produced are actually very good, very easy to control, and simple to dial in your perfect tone. BUT... There are annoying sound artifacts at even the mildest settings. It sounds like a small dog yapping in the distance as each note tails off.

Unfortunately, what should have been an amazing super-pedal, ended up being completely unusable. I returned mine for a refund, and went with two separate pedals instead. One for Echo and another for Distortion.

The gain/boost is okay/good. The bass and treble knobs work like they are suppose to. the vibrato is weak. The reverb is so bad. What were they thinking? It clanks! Please take this item off the market.

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

I recently got this pedal and have been playing pretty much non-stop. I debated between this pedal and the 59 Bassman. I decided to get this because of the reverb as well as the vibrato. It has excellent range. I can get some really good raw OD tones from it as well as smooth clean sounds. The reverb sounds great and has doesnt have that fake digital sound like some of the pedals out there. You can get some Neil Young-ish tones as well as some early on hard rock all the way to indie tones. The Vibrato is also pretty fun to get goofy with or to add a touch of flavor to your sound. This pedal is a happy addition to my Boss pedal family and may have replaced my DS-1. And as with all Boss pedals its built really well. I still plan on purchasing the 59 Bassman pedal as well as the 63 Fender Reverb pedal just to complete the legend series.

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

I play lead guitar in our band at church. We resently went to a silent stage sound system. Until we build an amp room I can't use my Twin Reverb. Plugging my pedal board directly into the system sounded really sterile so I decided that I needed an amp model which is why I purchased this pedal. I have to say that I'm really satisfied with the FDR-1, it sounds like a Fender Deluxe to my ear and it gets a nice crunch, like a cranked up amp. The reverb is just OK and I don't use the vibrato at all. Kind of funky, I use an Electro-Harmonix Pulsar which I love instead. Any way, I love the sound of this pedal, and until we build the amp room, I'm good to go.

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

This is a great little pedal that enhances your sound. I play a Tele (B-Bender) and I own an actual 65 Deluxe and I think the tremolo is better with the pedal thru this amp. I also use it thru a G-DEC 30, it (pedal) sounds great thru this amp also. Whatever you play, get one of these and you will be pleasantly suprised what it can do.

        Good pedal with some limits

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

This is a great sounding pedal. I demoed it and was blown away. It has excellent biting clean tones, and a soft thick overdrive sound. However, there are a few things you should know about this pedal that you might not get from reading the product information.1. This pedal requires an amp. It doesn't have any sort of DI or speaker simulation. Doing so would make this a perfect recording interface / virtual amp2. The reverb is quirky. Instead of using a digital delay algorithm that kinda sounds like spring reverb, they have *modeled* a spring reverb. You can really hear the spring, along with lots of pops, blarps, and quivers. In my opiniont they did their job a little too well. Maybe the original DR spring tank was this noisy, but a modern spring reverb is not. Turned up medium or high and without other instruments, the reverb chatter is obvious and annoying. Probably in a band or mix setting it would fade right out. I recommend demoing this pedal before buying to make sure the reverb is to your liking.3. As mentioned elsewhere, the vibrato is not footswitchable. vibrato depth is on a knob and you have to hand-adjust it. I have no idea if that matches the control on the original DR, but it's true here.4. This is an amp sim, not a stomp box. I haven't tried it in every possible combination, but I don't think it plays very well with other pedals. It seems to combine nicely with the gain structure of my amp, but combining it with other distortion or overdrive pedals or other amp sim pedals doesn't seem to give a good result. I would expect this pedal to play nicely with compression or wah before the pedal and chorus or delay after, but not reverb, OD, distortion, or amp sim.Think of this pedal as an amp face lift. Set your amp to a clean or slight breakup tone you like, and set the DR pedal to a different tone it does well -- and there are a lot of them to choose from. Hit the pedal and suddenly you have a completely different amp.I see this pedal as appealing most to retro - indie - lofi - SRV - blues cat types, not metal heads or effects gurus who use multi-FX or a half dozen stompboxes. This is about pure gutsy tone.

It has lasted me for about 10 days so far and I bet it will last much longer.

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

I'm a player in a classic rock cover band and between the four of us; we have virtually every base covered with regards to amp and guitar ownership. You name it and we have it. I was tickled by the prospect of this pedal and promptly got one, fully expecting to be disappointed to one degree or another, (the yeah, right factor). When it arrived, I pulled my "power engine 60" out of the garage and hooked the pedal up to it, without an amp head of any kind, and ...whoa, instant Fender tone. I took it to practice and A/B'd it with a real Twin Reverb, Pro Reverb, Bassman Reissue, AC30 and a Deluxe reissue...this thing sounded as good or better than all of the above. The only complaint I have is that setting the vibrato speed is a little awkward, and would be very hard to do while onstage. All in all, with the "power engine 60" set flat, you can have the equivalent of a 60w Deluxe that simply kills...there is even that note sag you get with a real tube amp and the guitar's volume knob becomes an instrument in itself. From clean to very satisfying lead OD without touching the pedal, that's what a great amp does and this little guy is a great "amp". I've already ordered the Bassman version, and can hardly wait to try it out.

OK, I admit I am 12 hours from the beach..BUT==I Rrode the surf all the way to the 60s.Like me, this is what it is..very few things can do everything perfect and this is no exception..BUT it does a great job of doing what it does.I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with the sounds I got . I am using an acoustic amp but the sounds from this box warms the sounds nicely.Like my chops, there are a few things I have to accept. If you turn the reverb past halfway,it deos make a strange- bling--but there is no need to go that high as the unit is very spacious at less than halfway. Overall I am very happy and for a retired weekend warrior to have a chance to revisit my beloved sounds is quite and ad Ventures,,

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

I recently purchased this pedal to go along with the Fender Champion 600 amp. That turned out to be a great match. Combine the natural tube tone of the champ with the believable modeling of the 1965 deluxe reverb, fantastic. The main reason I bought the pedal was to add some reverb and vibrato to my sound. This pedal did just that plus add a little lower end sound. All in all this pedal is a great buy especially when combined with a champion 600 or a Pro Jr. I'll probably be purchasing the 59 Bassman as well!

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

I have to completely disagree with LeftyLes. I owned this pedal and the reverb is fake sounding. I purchased a Blues Deluxe amp and ditched the pedal. If you can't get a good tone from a Fender Blues deluxe you need to practice more. This Pedal is NO substitute for a good amp.

I just got the pedal and thus far I am impressed. I have it plugged into a Kustom solid state amp and it does add a tube amp tone/sound when turned on. The controls are very responsive and is easy to dial in for whatever additional tones you are trying to achieve. It can certainly add versatility to your existing amp and instrument.

          By Les Paul 43

          from Atlanta, Ga

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

But I am not getting the Deluxe reverb sound that I was expecting. It has a nice OD sound but I compared it to my current pedal for OD which is the Digitech Bad Monkey and there's not much of a difference there. I was expecting to have that slightly overdriven clean that you can get from a Fender DR, but even with the gain turned down you have to turn the guitar volume down almost too far for it to be heard in a band situation. I have played through a DR reissue before and I am not getting these tones with this pedal. Although to be fair, I am playing my Les Paul through a solid state Orange amp with this pedal. The Boss demo is the sound that I was going for with this purchase. On a better note, the Reverb is outstanding as long as you keep it controlled and the quality of this pedal is typical outstanding Boss product. It is a great OD pedal but was looking for a more subtle, creamy OD blues sound but still a good pedal. Just a little pricey for what you get.

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

I consider this a great "band-aid" for my 20W Dean Markley solid-state amp that has no reverb and has an extremely dull sound. This pedal adds a lot of gain and the reverb is really deep. I like the 50's style vibrato also- like 2 effects in one pedal. Sure if you have the money for a nice fender amp- go for it. But if you are just looking to warm up that little practice amp, THIS pedal can do the job.

This pedal is great and really makes the instrument your using it with pop out especially in a full back situation. It is one of the better boss pedals in my opinion, although the 2 piece knobs aren't as tough as the one piece and tend to break it dropped in the right spot.

Comments about Boss FDR-1 Fender Deluxe Reverb Pedal:

I would highly recommend this pedal to anyone looking for that classic fender amp tube tone and reverb. I'm blown away by the reverb effect. You can actually hear the springs just like the real thing. This made my Roland Cube 60 sound just like a warm tube amp for a fraction of the cost of the real thing. I was skeptical at first but after hearing the NAAM/Boss demo I was sold and had to try this out. Yes!, it's as good as all the reviews. Buy it! I'm going for the Bassman next. Gear: Fender Strat > Boss FDR-1 > Roland Cube 60 on Clean Channel with NO PRESENCE! If you have an amp with presence you must turn it down to 0 to get that nice warm tube tone otherwise it's a little too bright.

I had this pedal for a while and it provides great sounding reverb to lesser amps. Unfortunately once the reverb dial is turned past 1/4 turn, it starts to sound fake and overdone. I didn't use the vibrato much and it can be annoying to change the controls. I sold it and got a Fender Blues Deville. Now I don't need the pedal
