I hate to be what one would call an "easy critic" and give a product 10s in all categories, but try this product out and you will understand why. I have completely picked apart every feature of this unit to try to find something that was left out or done poorly, and its simple. This unit is the very best, in all categories. If I gave it any less than a 10, I would be lying about my feelings for the GT-10. Do yourself a favor: sell old gear, mortgage your house, get an extra part time job, sell your firstborn, or whatever it takes to get this piece of equipment. You will never get more bang for your buck than you will with the GT-10.
You simply cannot find an effects unit in the price range with more features than this piece of gear has to boast. With 2 separate effects loops, USB connectivity, 5 different ways to output, midi capability, built in phrase looper, COSM effects processor, an easy to use interface, and 200 presets, its needless to say that you will not want to quit playing for days after buying it. Along with these features comes my favorite: amp control. With a stereo 1/4" cable, it will never again matter that you lost the footswitch to that old tube head. This is because the GT-10 is smart enough to change your amp channels for you. As for me, I want the tone of my Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier to shine through with full force, have a minimal amount of floor pedals, have effects, and get the perfect tone. With the GT-10, this is all not only possible, but easy.
I have owned this effects unit for longer than one year, it has been gigged all over Kentucky and surrounding areas and used in the studio. Not a day goes by that this piece of gear is not in use, and has it ever had even one slight problem? NO it has not. This baby is meant to be gigged and holds up like a champ. With its large LED screen, metal chassis, and high quality knobs, its everything short of bulletproof. More simply put, its a BOSS product.
If my house were to burn down today, what would I want to save? My Gibson Les Paul Flood, Mesa Boogie Single Rectifier, and BOSS GT-10. If I could not make it to my BOSS GT-10 safely before the house burnt down, I would replace it the day of the fire. Simply put, it is irreplacable in my setup. My tone recieves compliments each time I step on the stage and many local guitarists even attempt to mimic my setup. The BOSS GT-10 is the reason. Everything about it makes it one piece of gear that I will NEVER get rid of. It is irreplacable for any serious guitarists rig.

Gigging musicians, stay away from the GT-10 and go for the Boss ME series! The Boss GT-10 is probably wonderful for the home enthusiast who has time to tweek it and search the menus for the perfect sound. I've spent many hours trying to get the GT-10 to work conveniently for band rehearsals. It ain't comin' easy. The manual is reasonably easy to navigate but there are sooo many options that its hard to remember how to make on-the-fly adjustments of certain parameters. I had a heck of a time finding the Noise Supressor on my own as it is not given an on-board button or knob. Boy do I miss that feature from the ME-50. There are way too many pre-programmed distortion effects and very few non-distortion programs of interest. One called "Cliffs of Dover" doesn't sound much like E.J. at all, even with a proper 50's strat plugged in. And whats with the intensly brightly lit buttons on the GT-10? They are so bright, I can't read the letters next them to tell me what is on. For example, if you have the EQ, Compressor and Overdrive buttons all engaged and you want to take out the compressor, you're gonna have to hunt and peck before you get the right button. Most of the pre-programmed distortions are way too hot having too much of an increase in volume over the non-distortion effects. When I first plugged into the clean channel of a Fender 60 watt set at standard volume setting, I got high pitched feedback squeels that would disappear only when I hit a note. The usefullness of the two effects chains I have yet to figure out. I do appreciate the greatly improved tuner on the GT-10 (that's the only real advantage it has over the ME-50). The sound is excellent with headphones on. Through the amp, I have yet to get it to work reasonably well enough to tell. With all the amp simulation, I have a feeling the GT-10 is primarily marketed towards those who will be plugging direct to the computer or recording deck at home.

The Roland BOSS GT-10 is an excellent guitar multi-effects processor for people who want to be able to save a variety of custom sounds, play in a variety band, perform LIVE, record, play in both mono or stereo, and have lots of effects to choose from with the ability of using Compression or Limiter, 2 effects of your choice (Flanger, Phaser, and many others to choose from), Chorus, Delay, Reverb, and two-separate noise gates all at the same time. With the Roland BOSS GT-10 you can get BOSS GT-10 Patches by James Limborg.
beats the competitor( line 6) hands down...i would recommend this to anyone
this is a great processer, great effects and very simple to operate...great sound and very cool amp models
Built like a tank, very sturdy
lots of features and a very reasonable price!!!
I give it a rating of 6 because of it's failure to match up to the GT-8 and GT-6.
It is still a great unit if you can live with a sterile pre-amp section. A good tube amp may help or resolve the problem.
The digital effects and extras are nice but the pre-amp section is very sterile in comparison to the GT-8 and GT-6. The display looks more like a cheap toy rather than a professional musicians processor.
The GT-8 and GT-6 are easier to use and have less useless additives, not to mention they are a more professional looking unit.
I found it impossible to get the warm sounds that I was getting from my GT-8.
I ended up selling my GT-10 and going back to a GT-8.
Great digital effects but thats it. Not the sound quality or sturdiness of it's predecessors.
I gave it a 5 for value because of the great effects but this a full guitar processor and should be better.
Sounds great. IMHO it really crushes the pod hd500. I'm a hand wired tube amp snob (Victoria, Blueverb, Kingsley, Allen, Fender, Samamp, Kalamazoo) but for getting true pro tone fast, this is unbeatable.
Pretty easy to use. Lots of goodies. I own this and an hd500. This has more useable features
More rugged than hd500. I'd get two for tour, but not worry at all in real life
You could record the history of electric guitar on this and do a pretty good job. Not as "cool" as tube amps and giant pedalboards, but it also gives you legit access to tonal regions you'd probably never reach with a traditional rig. Stumble across a spacy loopy pad sound for an intro/outro? Cool.
It's a shame that less experienced players will spend way more climbing the food chain.
This is an awesome pedalboard and has all the FX I need! I use it through the FX loop of my amp and it sounds flawless. The only thing I did not really like was the distortion pedals and amp models. They sound good if you connect the gt-10 directly to your computer or a mixing board but they don't get along with my amp. With this pedal I got a noise gate, acoustic simulator, reverb, delay, flanger, wah wah, and anything I could ask for. There is no point on spendind more money and make a mess with lots of pedals when you can get the quality in one single metal box.

The thing to me that stands out with the GT-10 is that it is touch senitive..as you turn down your guitar the GT-10 is responive like a guitar amp. Lots of good tones as you turn down. Some multi effects processors do not clean up at all as you turn down...this does.
Lots of great sounds in here> I like the harmonizer .. better than most..good sounding 3 parts.
Live hands on tweaking...Great sceen when the lights go out. Highly visable LED's. No problems in sun light doing out door gig's.
There's more control over pram's than you'll out grow. Tons of ways to control pram's in different orders. You decide your ease and order for ease of use live.
I recommend using it through a tube amp for live shows. This will give you the wall of sound that GT-10 gives..it shines.
I've had this GT-10 for over a year. Playing ever week live
I really like the steel. Had a mixed drink spilt on the GT-10 one night..Did not hurt it. Keep a rag in the case near by ...saved me.
Construction is good quality. Color hides all most all dirt .. Won't find finger prints, if any. Have to clean it anyway. Just to keep it looking good..But you may not have too.
Pricey ... but you get what you pay for here.
ive been using this thing for a while now and this the best boss ever came up with.........
I don't own the GT 10 but am a GT 8 fan! Have owned one for 6 years. It is an incredible processor! However if you're looking for ease of use then I would suggest keep looking. The factory presets are very overdone and you're gonna have to really understand how the machine works to get the best out of it. In my case it took tons of reading and a long long time (I nearly sold it out of frustration!). Once you do though the possibilities are endless. The distortion and high gain amp sounds were very digital without the Harmonic Converger which I think is an essential buy for GT users, although its not cheap. The construction is rugged and can take a beating. Connectivity is very good. I would highly recommend getting an extra foot pedal with this. I use the Roland EV 5. On the downside the whammy sounds suck and the sitar simulation is terrible. The wave synth has a curious whooshing sound after the effect and I wish the wah was modelled after the PW 10 wah. And I wish it had a more authentic analog delay setting. But these are minor shortcomings. I would buy the GT 8 again in a heartbeat.
