I love playing but as an average gigging guitarist(no roadies), I hate bringing gear to every gig, setting it up, and packing up! I have about 11 stompboxes in my pedal board that I have to lugg around each time I go to a gig not to mention my guitar too. Its taken a toll on my back so as much as I hate multi effects i was forced to find one that would actualy have a decent amount of "usable" effects and would actually sound good in any amp that the local bars in town supply us with. I've had a few other multi effect units before which off course sound great when your at home with your own amp ,tweaked to sound good with your particular set-up. The nightmare begins when you have to use those settings with another amp supplied to you by the venue. It will always sound totally different, and always in a bad way, which explains the reason why I went back to using stomp boxes. Anyway, saw this product on the web, downloaded the manual, and went to try it in our local music store, and it sounded pretty decent(not talking about the factory presets off course). Very simple, cheap, almost works like a stompbox and it didn't weigh a ton. Brought it back home, tweaked it a bit and I was off to my gig for the night. I had every bit of confidence it was gonna get me through the night without having to bend down and tweak all the time. OK, so about the product, it will give you the sound your looking for if you know how to use the tools provided by this unit. The EQ of this thing plays a big part in its tonalty which by the way is really superb. Can be used for any style of music, but for me its mostly ROCK and heavy metal. Distortion sounds should be monitored cuz the gain of this thing can go over the top. Modulation effects are satisfactory, not as good has having individual stompboxes, but no one will ever know the difference, trust me. Delay and reverb are pretty ok as well, its just too bad you cant combine them together.I placed an RC booster in the end of it to make it sound warm and natural and wow!!! I was ready to rock!!! . If your a gigging musician who's maybe on a tight budget, not too particular about gear, has to use different amps at different places every time, the ME-20 is just the thing for you.

i bought this for practice and gigs until i could afford the analog pedals i wanted, it was alright at best, then bought real pedals ran it through my amps. fx loop-what a nightmare!!!!!!!! it squeals so loud i thought thr fire company would arrive at my house any second!!if you run it up front, it works but major humming&buzzing, only solution, isp decimater. if you loop it ,forget about using any analog effects and you can not even use bank 1 when its looped even with no gain effects engaged-bottom line, lower grade effects in front of amp with major noise to follow-only bank 2&3 if your lucky in a fx loop-even would not recommend this to my worst enemy! save up, or buy analog-preferred, robert keely-great pedals! do not listen to the hype and bundled effects!

This pedal has so many effects on it! The wah/volume pedal is great! The distoriton is good on the right settings. The modulation is great to. The delay is awsome! The pre-sets are great! The overall pedal is great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First of all, gotta love the compact size this pedal has, you could fit it in a backpack without a problem. Sturdy! I personally think this has a lot of the essentials of a multi effects. People have said in reviews that this sounds bad and that sounds bad on the pedal: totally wrong!!! The best way to get the best sound out of this pedal is to connect it to your amp properly. DO NOT GO FROM AMP INPUT TO YOUR PEDAL, THEN FROM PEDAL TO GUITAR, THAT FAILS!! I read from a review on a different Boss product that this guy was going from the Effects Return (if your amp has a connection in the back) -> Mono Output of pedal -> Input of pedal -> guitar. Trust me it's the only way for true true true sound! Connecting it this way will bypass your amp's onboard EQ's and volumes. It's basically using pure speaker and the effects pedal acts as the controller of all the tones, without any influence/changes from the amp settings. I think a lot of onboard amp EQs can mislead your sound when you try certain effects, like distortions especially. The metal distortions are quite insane! Even if you don't access one of them in batches, the EZ mode has some real real nice distortions. The rotary is nuts as well, sounds incredibly nice and always Boss quality. I recently downgraded from a more complicated Boss multi effects pedal, and I will never go back to something that complicated. Simplicity is the way to go!
If you want to have a really great range of quality FX for not alot of money, buy this thing now. its built to last a nuclear war. i bought this pedal last year and have used it everyday just for jaming and for worship services at my church. i can't live without this thing. Digitech multis boast tons and tons of presets and fx, but this thing is really all you need. it sounds great, is super easy to use and at 200 bucks, you can't beat it. i only have 2 complaints. first, no tap tempo. this really isn't a big deal just do the math and turn the knob, but you had better have it set up before showtime. second, the volume pedal is great but the wah is really choppy and i was not impressed. other than that, this thing can't be beat. be sure to buy the power adapter and the footswitch cause they come in real handy.
Yes individual stomp boxes are better, but this is the most convient peice of equipment I have own. In my opinion the distortions on here are better than most pedals I have own. The Fuzz is great replica of British Invasion Fuzz. The Metal is just that, Metal. My favorite is the regular Distortion it has so much crunch and gain just makes my mouth water. This also nice assortment of modulation; including chorus, phaser, flanger, tremelo, and rotary. The delay's are nice but they are quite as sweet as analog delay which always sound better but its nice. The reverb is great you can go from a wee bit reverb to sounds like your playing in the big tiled room in the world. Almosth etheryal. This also comes with a much underrated threshold which is nice for us strat players who don't want that instant feedback. The biggest feature I enjoy though has to be the simple fact you can plug headphones and still have great quality sound, and not have to wake the neighbors since most of us guitar players are nocturnal. The only real downside is it can be a bit difficult to fine tune effects as well as sound combinations. For exmample I have not quite figured out how to have more than one modulation effect at a time. I only have had this for a little while but in a pinch this is the best pedal money can buy. If your an amateur guitar player and want a new stomp box save your money just a bit and invest in this baby!
My Christmas present to myself for 2008. Absolutely amazing effects pedal; the sounds you can get out of this are virtually limitless. Has more features than you could ask for, and even a built in tuner. My only big complaint is that it's so confusing to use. I really wish they made a nicer display, or atleast an overall more easy-to-use interface. Once you figure this out, though, you'll love it.
Solidly built with good effects, good little practice or back up rig, the wah blows chunks. i put this into my peavy classic 50/50 power amp and was suprised to find i could get a fairly decent sound from it. Not sure who the knuckle head reviewer is that got his run over by a tank & then expected it to work afterwards, i'm assuming it was a prank review, if not then... are you frikin kidding me! Not much of anything can withstand being run over by an actual tank. I don't think these units were meant to be put into an fx loop either, or to be used for recording. Overall this is a well built unit that will get you by in a pinch or for practice.
this is a great little unit for the price, and i'd recommend it to anyone who is just starting to get interested in effects. My one problem is with the overdrive/distortion. It doesn't sound very good, but i just remedied that by purchasing a boss dist. pedal. other than that, great deal!
Okay so not too long ago my digitech rp thing just burnt out. I plugged it in and it wouldn't work. So I bought this. The features are nice good effects, fewer than digitech, but better. And digitech's effects were crap and mostly useless anyway. The effects are pretty good sounding, especially the delay. But my main problem is the wah on this. It's really bad. You can't adjust it at all so it's not versatile at all. So in general, I advise you to get a separate wah if needed. This thing is pretty well made and sturdy. As far as sound quality goes, the effects aren't too digital. I don't know why they priced this thing where they did. That's just not what it's worth. Pretty well worth the money though. Overall nice effect carrier. But it won't bring happiness for too long. Most guitarist end up switching to stomp boxes. But yeah, nice equipment.
I must admit... I am not new to guitar, im 14 with a 8 years on my belt. Shredding isnt my cup of tea (yet) but I love a quite... calming sound... but then I like to blast up my Overdrive and play some Disturbed |,,| The ME-20 is a Perfect gift or choice for someone who doesnt perform and just wants wicked Boss Tone to Jam out with. The Overdrive, works just fine with my Pathfinder. The Wah is great only it changes the tone of the song when you merely turn it on which kind of sux but isnt that big of an issue. I recommend you run to your nearest Boss dealer and grab this baby to try it out for yourself. You WON'T be dissapointed. Rock on, James |,,| |,,|
This is a fantastic pedal! For the price and all of the effects it can do, it's the best one (I think) out there. I've had it for some time and it has never let me down. It sounds great and all my friends are amazed. After seeing what it could do, they all wanted one. The Boss Me-20 Pedal really has made a difference in my band. This pedal is great for all types of music. Two thumbs up!
