OVERVIEW

Plug in up to eight effects pedals and combine them as you wish in 8 separate banks.

Ok, so you have eight effects pedals which you use regularly. You use various combinations of these pedals in various songs, but you are not good at tap dancing¦or you are just clumsy and have (once or twice) stepped on the ultra tricked out-metalized-distortion pedal for the lead in your one ABBA cover. You have seen the digital effects controllers they use on the big stages, and have secretly yearned for one¦ even though you may never make the big stage.

Enter Thomas Guldmann's Octa-switch II. Your eight effects plug into the eight effects-loops on the back of this unit (all true-bypass, impedance free, gold relays so you can run any of your pedals, new and old without problem), and then by turning on or off the numbered switches in each of eight DIP Bank switches, you determine which effects you wish to use simultaneously in each Bank.

There is a blue LED for every effects loop used and for each Bank (so once you are programmed, when you step on Bank 6 you will see the lights of all the effects you have assigned to Bank 6 and the Bank 6 LED). The Octa-switch II has incorporated a couple new features as well! The ninth switch on the left side of the case is a BYPASS Switch which allows you to completely bypass all eight pedals and enjoy only the unaffected sound of your amplifier.

There are also two External Switching jacks which allow you to use two amplifiers and/or switch channels on those amps. Once you have all the Banks programmed, we recommend placing a piece of scotch or electrical tape over each DIP (just to protect the switch from accidental switching, damage or floods like beer). There is a buffered Mono input and a stereo Output, and the unit is powered by dual 9V batteries, or by a regulated power supply¦like the Big John or the Pro Power (both by Carl Martin).

FEATURES
  • Blue LED for every effect and bank used
  • Slide type DIP switches
  • Buffer circuit at input
  • Choose between 100% true bypass or buffered bypass
  • Mono send and stereo return on stereo jack plug

So many sounds at your disposal. Order today!

Comments about Carl Martin Octa-Switch MKII Effects Switching System:

The type of music I make demands several combinations of effects to be changed quickly and consistently throughout our live sets, so the Octo Switch is a dream come true for me. The switcher itself is not insanely large, but it will take up a significant portion of a smaller pedalboard, so it's important to bare that in mind. After trying it out for a few weeks I can understand the reason for the size, too. If the footswitches were too close together or arranged in rows of 4 (instead of how it is 8 straight across) you would lose some wiggle room/margin of error when it comes to stomping during involved sections of your songs. In my mind, switchers are about simplifying your pedal flow in favor of enjoyment in playing and feeling the music, and this one does the trick in spades.

Another thing to keep in mind is you don't have to chain all your pedals into the switcher - so if you have more than 8 effects, you can save space by putting any potential "always on" effects or "rarely used" effects after the switcher. For example, I put my chorus and looper pedal after the switcher because I want my chorus to always be on and I want to only occasionally use my looper. Just make sure to chain any such effects AFTER the switcher. I noticed when you do it before the switcher there is audible clicking sound at the beginning of each strum you do on your guitar. Doesn't matter what effects are engaged or anything, it's always there if you put pedals before the switcher.

Ultimately, if you have a combination of effects that you use consistently in your live setup and you want easy access to toggle between different variations of those effects, the Octo Switch will get the job done!

Comments about Carl Martin Octa-Switch MKII Effects Switching System:

This is a great unit, especially if you have a lot of effects and you want to be able to assign preset combinations of them and switch between them. If you want to also switch between amps you can set up the loops as amp sends. I use two amps and this is very useful. The built in buffer allows transparency.

There is no midi to worry about, everything is set up physically with dip switches. I have an all analog rig and the last thing I wanted to do was confuse things with a digital switching system, this is a great way to have intelligent switching without any midi.

Comments about Carl Martin Octa-Switch MKII Effects Switching System:

The octaswitch is super easy to use. When switching between presets it's completely quiet, nada, nothing, zilch. Also, the looper does a great job of silencing noise or minimizing degradation in your signal chain. I had an issue with tone suck when using the octaswitch in my amps effects loop, but I think it had more to do with a mismatch in impedance or signal. I solved this easily by just running all my effects on the front side of the amp. With more research and tinkering I could probably solve the issue, but its not really necessary as I'm no trying to drive the tunes on my amp. Also, I was surprised to find that the octaswitch was able to simulate my amps foot switch by switching amp channels. This is great if you want to be able to mix your amps natural distortion with you effect pedals. Overall very happy with this switch!
