I managed to spend some time with the core X2 product. Here's what I found out: 1. Assembly is bullet-proof. I assembled and reassembled cables and could _not_ get the supplied jacks to screw up. I think the secret lies in the fact that you can only tighten the set screw so far and then it stops. With the George L's, 1/2 turn too far on the screw and you have perforated the core wire, thus causing a dead short. These core XT2's were perfect every time. 2. I submitted the assembled cables to moderate abuse, whirling them around like Roger Daltry, banging them on tables folding and unfolding them. Again, bullet proof-not one failure. I believe that the set screw is tight enough that it won't come loose or back out on it's own accord, another fatal flaw of the George L's. 3. I did a listening test comparing the Core X2 cable with my expensive hard wired George L cable, and found that the George L cable sounds superior at the twenty foot length. The George L was noticeably more transparent, with more highs getting through. I think that in the short runs needed for a pedal board application this wouldn't be an issue, especially when so many kids these days don't use true bypass pedals anyway. To sum this up, I think this product is a winner. It's easy to assemble, easy to repair, and seems to hold up to normal abuse very well. I wouldn't recommend it for a guitar-to-amp application, but that's not its intended use anyway. It's sonically a tiny bit inferior to the George L cable, but when you weigh in the George L problems with shorting and cutting out I think these Core X2's are gonna be stiff competition.

These cables work very well and the quality of sound should be a 5, however, they have huge metal collars that are longer then height of the jacks on the pedals. Therefore, you have to angle them. Then you can't put another pedal close because the collars are too big. The sound is very clear and I recommend them for those who do not need to place pedals close to each other. Otherwise, get the George L's. Corex2 requires at least an inch between pedals if the pedals are staggered. If your pedals are directly side by side, then you need more space.I actually drilled holes in my board just for the collars. This way I only have to stagger them the width of the connector and not the entire collar.

      Works, but...

The cables worked well and were easy enough to assemble. The ends, however, vary in width. Some will fit in all my effects (Boss and Fishman) some are too wide to plug in without forcing them.

I am now a Believer in These Kits!

      By Carlton E.J.

I had a bad experience with another make your own cable guy years ago and swore off these do it yourself cables. A musician I play with & trust swears by these Core X2 cables and did a demo for me and I was impressed on the solid feel of it and how easy it was to make. I bought 2 sets to re-do my board and I have to say I am a believer in this kit it was so easy to use and honestly I did notice a difference in the sound fullness that came out of my Matchless amp. I love products that do what they say I would recommend this to tone savvy musicians!

Good product, but, has a few flaws.

The concept of this product is good, but, I didn't get the results I was looking for. First of all when you tighten the screws you must press in firmly to keep the wrench from slipping. You will round out the screw and wrench rendering them both useless. Go buy a good wrench and razor knife. I bought three kits and made around thirteen cables. Only two connections failed, which, I didn't think was too bad. The bad thing is about four of them failed onstage. They cannot stand the pressure of sharp turns. If you have mostly straight runs I think you will be o.k. If you use a lot of pedals and loops and have to route cables around corners, you might be better off buying solder type fittings and do it the old fashioned way! I will say they really do look cool when a pedal board is set up with them.

      Completely satisfied.

Everything works perfectly, cutting and assembling the cables couldn't have been easier, and my tone is as good as or better than it was before with the jumble of random patch cables I'd been using for years. Get this kit.

$50 can buy you a huge improvement in sound.

      By Mark W. Clark

from Ukiah, Mendocino County, CA. USA

I bought three of these sets for my Pedal Pad XL with eleven effects boxes and pedals. I needed the extra connectors and now have plenty of cable left over for other projects. I had the multi-color patch cables installed and replaced them with the CoreX 2. The sound improvement is incredible through all frequencies. I found the cutting and attaching the connecters as easy as they could possibly make them. I had one connecter that I rushed and did not get a good connection and had to reinstall it with no problem. It was my mistake not the product's. The only hints are to be sure you make your cuts square without any frayed wire, getting the spike in the center of the cable and don't over tighten the screw. My Pedal Pad is absolutely quiet now. There is not even a whisper coming from the board. The only noise is the tube amp. This is a must for anyone that uses more then just a guitar and amp. I would use one if I had just a couple of stomp boxes to connect and use the rest of the kit for other uses. This is one of the finest products that I have come across in a very long time. It does exactly as stated if you follow the simple instructions. Now go buy a set!

      CoreX2 Cable kit

      By Macaudioengineering

Let me tell you right now. Get the kit. I routed pedal boards for several artists and I just got this for myself and now it's time to start putting it on what I sell. When the UPS guy comes get out your pedalboard, and put your old cables in storage. Don't use the Supplied razor or Allen wrench. Use a new razor. The rest is the simplest and easiest thing you will ever do in guitar maintenance. Oh and, it sounds killer too. You do have to be patient, and you have to understand how it works. You have to get the middle of the cord around the spike thing, and then the hex screw completes the circuit. Make sure that both connections are solid, and then your pedal board will sound the best it can ever sound. It comes with tons of cable. I'm thinking I'm gonna take advantage of the individual connectors being for sale. And I'm gonna buy this again!

      Worth the Money

Ok, yes these cables can be somewhat tricky to connect. But it's not THAT hard. You just can't push the cable into the connector with all your might. You wait till you feel it hit, give it a little push further and tighten the screw down...not that hard. I've never had a problem with them. They are quiet! the only time I run into some noise is when my keeley compressor is on. But that's to be expected. Overall, good kit!

      Surprisingly Very Cool

      By Anonymous

      from Undisclosed

When it was time to rewire my guitar rig, especialy my pedal board, I decided to give the Core X2 kit a try - and I'm really excited about the results. Yes, you have to do some work cutting wire and attaching connectors...so how lazy are you? In the end, the tonal results are worth every penny and the time spent making custom-length cables. When it comes down to it, the points that have me excited are: 1) The Core X2s sounded better than a 6" pedal cable I paid $20 for, 2) The Core X2s are QUIET - the quietest I've ever used, 3) They brought out so much extra clarity, frequency response and definition, it was like pulling earplugs out of my ears...it was that big a difference! 4) SOLDERLESS!!! And still sounded great!!!These are great cables...
