Of the 20 bass players I know I am the only one who owns a Crate. This is my second amp EVER and it is my second CRATE. I originally had a 1990 B160 with chorus and 7band EQ. I kind of wish this amp had the 7 band EQ. THe 4 band just does not seem to get the super low end I need to rattle some cages. However, the sound is quite clear. I feel that if I could AFFORD a bigger rig I would get one, but this is a good deal for a 100W rig. I also wish it had some side handles like my first CRATE. Who can lift and carry a 70 pound amp for long distances with ONE handle on TOP? I bought some casters for it. It is much easier to move. The tuner on top is super sweet. I like not asking for a note to tune to or using a cheap little plug in tuner. The mute button is a good addition. The distortion is pretty cool considering I would never buy a distortion pedal for a bass. It does a decent job. Playing some Sabbath sounds cool enough for me. The Octave effect is kinda cool as well, but the slight delay can be a little annoying. You won't take over the world with this amp, but it does a goood job. I would give it a 10, but the EQ and the lack of handles are a little bit of a drag. Otherwise, all is well.

I bought this amp before reading any reviews... I should have done more research. To start, the amp is built very well and it's fit and finish is of good quality. Secondly, this amp does have a very good low to medium volume tone considering it is solid state and has no tweeter. It has most of the features that you would expect with an amp of this price but at the same time, you probably won't use them. The distortion is corny sounding, same with the octave feature. The amp is great for home practice but DO NOT take it to a gig unless you will be miced or use the direct-out. I played a small gig un-miced and had the volume at about 5-the overload light was on the whole gig! Remember, 5 on a 100 watt amp is NOT very loud. The next gig I started micing the amp. With the volume at 3-4 and the mids and highs punched up a little it does Ok. It also made some strange noises and cut out a couple of times-not good!Even though this amp is ok I would recommend spending a little extra and getting an Ampeg. Ampeg is the real deal and doesn't cost that much more. I ended up buying an Ampeg BA115HP and am much happier with it. The Ampeg has great tone and more volume. I also don't worry if it's going to turn on or not!

Incredible Value!

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

I recently purchased this amp as a step up from a 15W practice amp I used when not playing through the amp at a friend's studio. The sheer volume on this thing is amazing! The lows are crisp and defined without losing any growl, and the highs get high without sounding tinny or thin. The included distortion effect is as good as any other effect, and have since stopped using my Boss distortion pedals which don't seem to keep the growl as well. While I disagree with the octave effect -- it doesn't seem to cut through your main master feed -- it's still okay to just make you seem louder for more solo-ey bits. The tuner -- I LOVE THE TUNER!! -- I use it non-stop. Unlike some handheld tuners, it seems to respond almost instantly, enabling you to stay in tune even on the fly. A welcome step up for anyone who doesn't need a half-stack at home or for small gigs!

Back To BASSics...

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

I have read some favorable - and not-so-favorable - reviews on this amp. I must say that I have been MORE than happy with my Crate B160XL bass combo-amp.Every feature is easily accessible, including having the direct in / Balance output (direct to mixer without a microphone) & the Effects Loop are on the front panel. It has a 15" EV speaker that puts out some nice low, deep bass... especially when adjusting the 7-band EQ & the Contour (Pre-shape) with the Low-boost button selected. It has a '0db' & a '-15db' gain input jack, as well as a normal & a master volume knob. The only thing that I don't care for is the material used to cover the amp casing: If you have a cat or a dog that sheds, every little thing clings to the cloth-like cover ~ lol. Other than that, it's a VERY nice-sounding amp!

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

This a great amp. Crate did a great job making it. I can hold my own now when I play in my band. This thing is loud. It has some pretty cool features too(octave, distortion, tuner). All in all, a good buy.PS- The only problem is the handle, it's already breaking and I have had this amp for like 2 weeks!

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

This is the amp my school got for band. it has a great tone and works excellently. it handles well, and makes the crappy guitar they bought sound good. if you are a serious bass player i would buy this amp. the only problem is if you turn it up loud for a long time it overheats.

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

this amp has been my best combo amp yet.it has many totally awsome features that some of the much more expensive combo amps have.it has enough bottom end to bring the walls down.if you are in a band or starting one this amp would be perfect for u. it has enough power to go head to head with a hard hitting drummer and eough to play small or medium areas with ease.

Good Amp for a half of a year

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

I had this amp for a half of a year, before it just blew out on me. This did not make any sense to me since I did not put it even half way when it was blown out. I have the warranty for new speaker, but it is really inconvenient to have to deal with something that dumb. The built in tuner is nice. The settings and EQ are pretty good, and it has some nice low and high tones. The only problem is the quality of this thing. It does not come with side handles, so unless you are a body builder you need two people to carry it wherever you go. Good for the money, just plain bad quality.

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

No problems here. I've been using one of these for a few months now and I'm extremely happy with it. The sounds is quite good, especially when using the -15dB compressor. It's pretty darn loud and it's got a good limit light so I'll know when I'm overworking it. The distortion sounds pretty bad, but I tend to like a cleaner tone anyways, so no problems there.

Great concept, needs a lot of work

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

This is the first real combo amp I have owned. When I first got it, I loved it. The features on the amp itself are flawless. Captures the intensity of the high end and the warmth of the low end. However as amazing as the sound is, I've had numerous problems with the amp, including power cord failure, blown speaker (without ever pumping it past maybe 3/4 of it's capabilities), sound cutting out, tuner not responding, as well as a few easily fixable problems. As much as I love the sound of the amp, it's definitely not worth the price. From now on I'm looking into a head/cab setup so I don't have to deal with the inconveniences of a combo amp, especially one that constantly needs maintainance. I'd only had it for a year before I experienced problems. If only the amp was built as well as it sounds.

EQ makes this thing pound

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

This is my second review about this Crate. I've been playing it for about a year and a half now and am still very happy with it. I have noticed that an Boss EQ pedal can be an awesome investment to make this amp scream. You will notice a huge difference between the stock amp and the EQ'ed amp. To anyone who says this amp lacks low end, I recommend either an active bass or a Boss EQ pedal which retails at about *** bucks.

More than I expected, and a great price

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

An experienced drummer for many years, but I have decided to take up bass on more of a hobby level as a challenge and for something diferent (staying in the rythm section).Having played beside many bass amps, including combos for many years, the BT100 blew me away when I got it and plugged it in. Nothing left on the walls at half volume with low end enhancement settings.Still learning and experimenting with the features. Seems this unti would be good for way beyond a practice or studio amp.Would handle most small to medium gigs with no problem I am sure. I'm still learning and very novice to the Bass and all of its ins and outs, unlike with drums but would recommend this amp for anyone who wants awesome performance at a small price that seems like it will stay with the big boys in most situations.
