Of the 20 bass players I know I am the only one who owns a Crate. This is my second amp EVER and it is my second CRATE. I originally had a 1990 B160 with chorus and 7band EQ. I kind of wish this amp had the 7 band EQ. THe 4 band just does not seem to get the super low end I need to rattle some cages. However, the sound is quite clear. I feel that if I could AFFORD a bigger rig I would get one, but this is a good deal for a 100W rig. I also wish it had some side handles like my first CRATE. Who can lift and carry a 70 pound amp for long distances with ONE handle on TOP? I bought some casters for it. It is much easier to move. The tuner on top is super sweet. I like not asking for a note to tune to or using a cheap little plug in tuner. The mute button is a good addition. The distortion is pretty cool considering I would never buy a distortion pedal for a bass. It does a decent job. Playing some Sabbath sounds cool enough for me. The Octave effect is kinda cool as well, but the slight delay can be a little annoying. You won't take over the world with this amp, but it does a goood job. I would give it a 10, but the EQ and the lack of handles are a little bit of a drag. Otherwise, all is well.

I bought this amp before reading any reviews... I should have done more research. To start, the amp is built very well and it's fit and finish is of good quality. Secondly, this amp does have a very good low to medium volume tone considering it is solid state and has no tweeter. It has most of the features that you would expect with an amp of this price but at the same time, you probably won't use them. The distortion is corny sounding, same with the octave feature. The amp is great for home practice but DO NOT take it to a gig unless you will be miced or use the direct-out. I played a small gig un-miced and had the volume at about 5-the overload light was on the whole gig! Remember, 5 on a 100 watt amp is NOT very loud. The next gig I started micing the amp. With the volume at 3-4 and the mids and highs punched up a little it does Ok. It also made some strange noises and cut out a couple of times-not good!Even though this amp is ok I would recommend spending a little extra and getting an Ampeg. Ampeg is the real deal and doesn't cost that much more. I ended up buying an Ampeg BA115HP and am much happier with it. The Ampeg has great tone and more volume. I also don't worry if it's going to turn on or not!

ive owned this amp for about 2 weeks and a half.this amp had to be exchanged for a new one within the first week of owning it due to the distortion leaking into the clean channel .distortion is very annoying and cuts out alot but if you get a good one it would be a good begining amp but if your looking for a good top of the line amp go fender .ow the octave is decent

    Incredible Value!

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

I recently purchased this amp as a step up from a 15W practice amp I used when not playing through the amp at a friend's studio. The sheer volume on this thing is amazing! The lows are crisp and defined without losing any growl, and the highs get high without sounding tinny or thin. The included distortion effect is as good as any other effect, and have since stopped using my Boss distortion pedals which don't seem to keep the growl as well. While I disagree with the octave effect -- it doesn't seem to cut through your main master feed -- it's still okay to just make you seem louder for more solo-ey bits. The tuner -- I LOVE THE TUNER!! -- I use it non-stop. Unlike some handheld tuners, it seems to respond almost instantly, enabling you to stay in tune even on the fly. A welcome step up for anyone who doesn't need a half-stack at home or for small gigs!

    Almsot Perfect Starter.

    By RichardReceptive

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

I have this bass and was very happy with my purchase. I'm in a metal band and we play shows almost every weekend and the two guitarists both have huge powerful half stacks. My little combo keeps up with both of them and I have not had one problem with it. It does what it claims to do, and a little more. If you're looking for a bass amp to let you be heard, this is your best choice. The only downfalls are the distortion isn't the best, and it's incredibly heavy. The thing weighs almost 90 pounds, and there is no easy way to carry it. Other than that, it's perfect.

    not the best

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

I have used many better amps in the past. This amp is deffinitly not worth the price. I doesn't get the best tone, but if you are playing for a band that is just starting out, or isn't going anywhere fast, its perfect

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

This amp is one of the best I have bought. I play in a metal band in a good solid amp is vital and this situation and if you are looking for a good one this is it. It can keep up with that narly half stack and it can sound good for how loud it goes. I love this amp!!

    In between Ampeg and Behringer

    By Samskeyti

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

I've owned this amp for about 2yrs. It's been used for recording and played a few gigs. Only the input has given me problems.I bought this amp for the 15'' speaker and 4-band EQ. The lows are beautiful!Bass distortion is annoying to begin with, but it can get the job done. Tuner is used non-stop, and octave function is sweet. When comparing to other combo amps, this one has some of the best tone I've heard. Whatever you do, don't buy Behringer. Although no Ampeg, it's a great amp for someone on a budget. There's enough watts to be heard over blast beats and a solid state 2x12/cheap half stack.Great buy.

    Just OK

    By ernie-cTMBY

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

It's good for a beginner, but within a year you'll be wanting something better, and louder. It really doesn't hold up as loud enough in a concert situation. I do like the bottom end and contrary to alot of people in the previous reviews, I think the distortion is as good as most people would ever need.

    Has Problems

    By Tone Addict--_Sq1

    from Northern California

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

Mine soon developed weird sound problems - unwanted ugly distortion. Possibly "Crate's disease" (bad soldering). Also, onboard effect (octaver & distortion) don't work unless your input signal is extremely high, so they keep cutting out, making them pretty much unusable. Also, the distortion sound is terrible. Clean sound is okay, but it is aggravating to look at the amp and see the unuseable features. Too bad.

    Not really worth it....

Comments about Crate BT100 Bass Combo Amp:

It's a good starter amp. This is not something I would suggest using if you are playing in a band. There are some better amps for the price, such as a Fender Rumble 100. The distortion is horrible, but the clean channel is great.
