I bought an earlier version of this amp for all the usual reasons - it sounded OK and was cheap. But the best feature is the Ext. Spkr Out.
Just for kicks I ran it thru a 4x12 at the store. The little varmint came alive. Once again, the cheap price is much due to the chintzy 8" speaker. Switch it out for a higher powered 8" or do what I've done: Pull out the guts and make 'em into a wee little head, and run it thru a 15" (30 yr old Radio Shack) speaker. That 15" smooths out the low-powered solid state sound, and it's now a total gas.
Or, just leave it be and run it thru a single 12. You won't be sorry.

Sucks, but good for the money

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this amp three years ago as a starter, and I am still using it. Granted, this is not because it sounds good, because it sounds terrible. The only reason anyone should ever buy this amp is because it is the cheapest amp I have ever seen. If you get a nice Distortion pedal though, it is not that bad. That's what I'm using and its the only thing that keeps me from getting a new amp.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this for my daughter to use with her mandolin in church. Everytime you play it and no matter where you play it you can hear radio stations coming through the speaker. Dunno what's up with that but it is unusable in this state. In the process of contacting Crate to see if there is anything they are willing to do about it.

Buyer Beware

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I had this amp for about 2 years and about four months ago it began to shock me it was a good amp for the sound but just the fact that the amp was shocking was horrible. The clean sounds like junk and the overdrive is very weak. My suggestion is that if you buy this amp buy a distortion pedal because the overdrive just doesn't do it.

OK FOR PRACTICE

By blister-fingers

from upstate ny

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've owned mine for 3yrs. It is about as inexpensive as you can get, but rugged enough to survive being dropped, kicked, and thrown into a trunk. If you're not fussy about sound quality and just need loud, this is a good buy for a practice amp.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp in my first few months of playing. I thought it sounded great because I had no idea what other amps sounded like. For a BEGINNER it would be fine. If your an intermediate player it will limit you. The structure is solid but the sound is not. If you want a good practice amp, get a Fender/Marshall/Roland and spend the extra $$$$$. I sold this amp.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Not a bad practice amp for the price. It sounds pretty good. You can get quite a bit of distortion out of the overdrive channel. The volume is a little bit touchy on the distortion channel though. But overall,it's a really good little amp.

Clean Bites..

By Anonymous

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had this amp for a little over about six months, its a great amp if your playing quietly, however if you ever want to play clean, always adjust your settings, the clean channel on this amp bites and though not really in a bad way, it's just,.. too loud and its very startling. Still a good amp for people who like using overdrive

Very disappointing...

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp a couple of months ago when I only had an acoustic-electric guitar. About a month later I bought a B.C. Rich Warlock and on this amp it sounded terrible! It didn't even sound like an electric guitar and i was very unhappy about buying this amp. The only good thing about it is that it is very loud for a 15W. But besides that I would not recommend this amp to anyone. If you want a good amp I would suggest spending more money.

Crate FW15 Review

By Bounty Hunter 16

from Hazel Green, AL

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I am a beginner using the FW15 with an Epiphone Les Paul Standard. The sound on the clean channel is awesome, particularly when cranked up and the FlexWave kicks in. The Overdrive channel is also excellent as long as you keep the gain below half way. Above that, it gets real muddy. The volume is more than adequate for practice, although probably not sufficient for playing with a band. I compared it to similar models from Peavey and Marshall, and for the price and features, you can't beat it. Overall I am extremely satisfied with this amp.

Good beginner amp

By BlakeB

from Sweet Lake, LA

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Although this isn't an amp that one could play a show with, it is certainly a more than adequate beginner amp. Great for practice, this little amp puts out a big sound. I've played on bigger amps, and this amp holds its own in sheer sound quality. As far as using it during a band practice I can say from experience that in my case it put out plenty loud enough to compete with drums and another guitar; you might have to crank it up a bit but unless your band mates are being ridiculously loud then you'd be fine.To summarize, you're not gonna get a gig amp when you buy this product, but I don't think anyone really expects it to be that. For what it's meant to be, it is exceptional and I would recommend it to any one.

Great Amp

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Great amp, espically for beginners(like me). This is my 2nd amp and its amazing, It put out great sound. The only problem I've had with it is that its kinda hard to pinpoint those right sound variations with the knobs. Also it has a headphone jack, really handy. And an external speaker. Great Overall and espically for the money.

Don't listen to those negative reviews

By Schecter rules-3Fkok

from Alpharetta, Georgia

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is genius. The only draw back that should be mentioned is that there is no reverb. I personally do not like reverb so it fits me perfectly. I don't even own this particular model, I have a late nineties GX-15. Only difference is this flexwave technology, and I can hardly wait to purchase this one! I have been playing guitar for eleven years. I have had tubes, and solid state amps. I just wish this thing crossed my path along time ago. The eight inch speaker is fine by yourself, but plug it into a 2X10 port cabinet and you'll make the neighbors down the street phone 9-1-1. A ten piece drum set can play with you at this point. I am still astonished as to how loud it drives my 2x10. great buy!

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this amp a little over a year ago and I still don't have anything bad to say about it, sounds great as it is and even better through my 15" cab. I mostly play a epi les paul and a strat, but I have even used it with my fender 12 string.

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought the Crate FlexWave Series FW 15 15W Amp mostly because of the price and the reviews other people wrote. Its quality is very good for the price. I like the overdrive and the clean styles of this amp. The only thing is that you don't have much control over the volume of the overdrive. Overall, I would recommend this amp for all people!!

Great Little Crate

Comments about Crate FlexWave Series FW15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I needed a small practice amp to avoid lugging around my heavy Fender 100 watt and this little guy fit the bill perfectly. Both channels sound really good and the CD/MP3 line in is great for playing along with my favorite jams. I highly recommend this model to anyone who wants a small practice amp.
