I had been told by a professional guitarist to check out the Crate GTX 212. The GTX was taken out of production and the FXT series was introduced. They are very similar in sound and quality. My friend told me that he was tired of lugging his half stacks around to recording sessions and gigs due to their heavy weight. He discovered that the sound that comes out of these Crates is close enough to the expensive Marshalls at about 1/3 the weight and 1/4 the price. I love the sounds that I can achieve out of this beast. The three channels are great. I don't use the clean much beacuse of my playing style, but it is rather good. The 1st overdirve channel is very mellow and gives a good blues type of overdrive with the dial at around 0.5-1.0. The 2nd overdrive channel gets you to where ever you want to go. I never turn the knob past 3.5. The effects on this amp are kind of cheap. The only one that is any good is the reverb. That is the only setting that I use. The only problems that I have with this amp is that its missing a mid knob on the overdrive channel. You could achieve many more sounds with one. The other problem is that the reverb effect doesn't have its own knob like on other models. This amp has built in effects but you can only use one at a time. So if you choose to use the reverb you cann't use another. I don't use many effects but reverb so it doesn't cause me any problems. I also love the built in tuner. I change tunnings from standard to 1/2 step down to open G to drop D all the time so this makes it a snap. I never have to unplug and plug back in. That is a big plus. I also have to bring up that this beast is pushing 120 watts of power. I play in a home studio and this thing rummbles the house and windows with the volume knob above 3. I haven't gotten a chance or need to put it up louder than that. I have a drum set about 5 feet from the amp and I can drown out the drummer no problem. One more thing. Don't mistake the lower wattage Crates for the same amp. The 120 watts really smooths out the sound. The lower wattage ones don't seem to sound a fraction as good as the FXT 120. The tube emulation software is quite good. I own another amp which is all tube and I get the same feeling when playing the Crate. At louder volumes the tube feel is right on. I would recomend this to anyone that plays rock and blues guitar that doesn't want to break the bank or their backs.

im writing this because i just had another problem with this.. see its a really good price for the amp and all but after 6 months the distortion channel went.. not big deal because the warrenty will cover it.. you wount have problems with that again i dont think because i didnt up to 3 years latter.. but now 3 years later today my band was playing and it went to crap.. it has a really bad buzzing sound to it.. i was only playing on volume level 8 just enough to get over the drums and it started buzzing really bad.. my singer says he noticed it sounding bad the last few practices but today it just went.. i can cover the buzzing with power chords but when i play a solo u have that crappy buzz behind it... and i use delay for one of our songs.. and that was so horrible.. i need to repair it i guess it cant be covered on warrenty after 2 years so oh well i think im gonna get a half stack of better.. somthing that will last and is professional.. but i recommend this amp if you need somthing really loud for gigs and cant pay much.. but i would sell it just before the warrenty goes and upgrade or you will be sorry.. but im happy because i cant wait to smash it next show :) hope this was a good read.. wish i had the money to get somthing new soon :(

Do Not Buy This Amp. I Did'nt Even Buy It. When I Called To Order The Amp The Guy I Was Talking To Told Me Not To Buy It Becuase It Is Real Easy To Blow The Chip In It. He Said If You Blow A Fuse Or Your Electric Goes Out You Can Destroy The Chip. Do Not Buy This.
let me tell you I am 1million percent glad that I picked this amp I,m an old schooler in my 40,s,but I like it loud clean dirty and all the effects you can get. this amp blows smoke has the punch of a marshell, tone of the fender twin, and buitlt like a humvee......I turned the value half way up and everything else all the way and with my fender strat I had a blast, and a workout to all you young artist all I can say its a mega value.....do it and keep on doin it..Al from california
I just bought this amp and love it! Its DSP effects are fun to play around with. The two 12" speakers provide lots of power, while keeping the tone. For this price, this amp is a great buy!
Ive owned this amp for a little over 7 months now, and well its ok. I play in a metal band and the factory overdrive works well, and you can really make it scream! But 3 weeks ago i went to turn it on and the overdirve channel died! The electronics in the amp went, so its been out for 3 weeks now for repair. If i could go back, i would of got something different.
this is a really nice amp, boomin loud, and the price is PERFECT, theres no amp i would replace this with for the price, effects, sound great, everything about the amp is awesome buy one : )
i recently got this for an early christmas becouse i dont have christmas in-state. i got this amp i love it is a very nice amp crystal clear clean and beutiful distortion and effects. now ther is one problem they make the foot switch nuts out of PLASTIC...plastic what a stupid thing to do. after about 2 days the nuts started to strip so i put locktite on them and still stripped out the footswitch is practically junk after a year.. but besides my hate of the footswitch i love the amp and will invest in more crate products without plastic nuts on things.
THis amp is an amazing amp and I reccomend this amp for anyone, beginner or pro. The overdrive is incredible and like some of the other reviews ive read the higher the volume the better the sound. Theres so much versatility with all the features. The digital effects are kind of shaky but fun to mess around with. I reccommend getting a effects petal to go with it. I got my amp for a rad price! Over all! Awesomley rad amp!
Well I plugged into this amp at random in a store, just to test a guitar I was buying. Fell in love instantly with the sound. I own it now! The built-in tuner is really cool and easy to use, it's always on, and doesn't need a battery. No more excuses, be in tune! The included effects are pretty great. You have a good selection to choose from, most of the "effects" are actually combo effects, for example the "Chorus 1" might be chorus+reverb, which is good, in my opinion. Some very popular combos there, and they all sound pretty good to me. Some I would never use, of course. Do we really need a "rotary" simulation? The included 3-button footswitch is awesome. Very easy to switch between channels clean/dirty1/dirty2, plus allows you to turn FX on & off.It even has a feature called FX tracking, or something like that. Basically you can set the FX for each channel independently, and it will remember each channel's FX as you switch between them. Even after a power-off!! So basically you set it up once, and it will stay that way forever. Pretty darn awesome. Like three amps in one.The only downside to the FX tracking is that it does not remember FX intensity setting, only the actual setting. So, you cannot "remember" that you want HEAVY reverb on the clean channel, but LIGHT chorus on the "dirty1" channel. Too bad. That's why I had to downgrade it 1 point on features. And of course, another downside is that since the amp doesn't have a "soft" indicator for which FX you're on, FX tracking will cause the FX on the display to (possibly) be incorrect. Not a big point. Hard to read that damn little display anyway, unless it's mounted on an amp stand pointed at your face. Besides, you'll remember that you selected "reverb 4" for channel "dirty2", right? You can *hear* that you did, hopefully.Highly, highly recommended. Extremely well-appointed, good-sounding, POWERFUL amp for an excellent price.
I've had this amp for about 6 months now and its probably the best cheap amp you can get. The clean channel is pretty awsome and the distortion is OK. I just wish the distortion was a little bit more sharper. The effects are pretty cool even though I havent found a way to use most of them in the songs that I write. I mostly use chorus since Im such a big Grunge Rocker. The tuner on it is very helpfull. I just love how it shakes my hole trailer. It's loud. I would highly recomend it to anybody who wants a good amp for a low price.
I have owned this amp for a year now. I've had it long enough to find out the plus and minuses. Clean channel is fine, distortion...thats questionable to what type of music you like. The effects are cool, but useless cuz you dont even need them. lol. THE FLAWS: Speakers blow easily but only when its like at 10 for 2 hours. Speakers aer ok. The distorion is horrible if you like heavy metal. You cant get the heaviness. But if its for alterantive/punk its good. The tuner in it is dinky but it works fine for a quick and concise tune. It's great for band practice and local shows. YOU CAN MAKE IT A HALF STACK BY BYING A 2X12 CAB! -THATS THE BEST FEATURE.
