I had been told by a professional guitarist to check out the Crate GTX 212. The GTX was taken out of production and the FXT series was introduced. They are very similar in sound and quality. My friend told me that he was tired of lugging his half stacks around to recording sessions and gigs due to their heavy weight. He discovered that the sound that comes out of these Crates is close enough to the expensive Marshalls at about 1/3 the weight and 1/4 the price. I love the sounds that I can achieve out of this beast. The three channels are great. I don't use the clean much beacuse of my playing style, but it is rather good. The 1st overdirve channel is very mellow and gives a good blues type of overdrive with the dial at around 0.5-1.0. The 2nd overdrive channel gets you to where ever you want to go. I never turn the knob past 3.5. The effects on this amp are kind of cheap. The only one that is any good is the reverb. That is the only setting that I use. The only problems that I have with this amp is that its missing a mid knob on the overdrive channel. You could achieve many more sounds with one. The other problem is that the reverb effect doesn't have its own knob like on other models. This amp has built in effects but you can only use one at a time. So if you choose to use the reverb you cann't use another. I don't use many effects but reverb so it doesn't cause me any problems. I also love the built in tuner. I change tunnings from standard to 1/2 step down to open G to drop D all the time so this makes it a snap. I never have to unplug and plug back in. That is a big plus. I also have to bring up that this beast is pushing 120 watts of power. I play in a home studio and this thing rummbles the house and windows with the volume knob above 3. I haven't gotten a chance or need to put it up louder than that. I have a drum set about 5 feet from the amp and I can drown out the drummer no problem. One more thing. Don't mistake the lower wattage Crates for the same amp. The 120 watts really smooths out the sound. The lower wattage ones don't seem to sound a fraction as good as the FXT 120. The tube emulation software is quite good. I own another amp which is all tube and I get the same feeling when playing the Crate. At louder volumes the tube feel is right on. I would recomend this to anyone that plays rock and blues guitar that doesn't want to break the bank or their backs.

im writing this because i just had another problem with this.. see its a really good price for the amp and all but after 6 months the distortion channel went.. not big deal because the warrenty will cover it.. you wount have problems with that again i dont think because i didnt up to 3 years latter.. but now 3 years later today my band was playing and it went to crap.. it has a really bad buzzing sound to it.. i was only playing on volume level 8 just enough to get over the drums and it started buzzing really bad.. my singer says he noticed it sounding bad the last few practices but today it just went.. i can cover the buzzing with power chords but when i play a solo u have that crappy buzz behind it... and i use delay for one of our songs.. and that was so horrible.. i need to repair it i guess it cant be covered on warrenty after 2 years so oh well i think im gonna get a half stack of better.. somthing that will last and is professional.. but i recommend this amp if you need somthing really loud for gigs and cant pay much.. but i would sell it just before the warrenty goes and upgrade or you will be sorry.. but im happy because i cant wait to smash it next show :) hope this was a good read.. wish i had the money to get somthing new soon :(

I ditched a Marshall amp for this...I love the vesatility and the Power....no distortion on 10..clean as a whistle....one samall complaint, it really is a bit light in its overall weight...a couple of stage weights and you are good to go.
I used to own this amp, and it's perfect. The only improvement I would make is to have a built-in noise gate. The cleans and distortion sounds are wonderful and I've never played on a better amp. God Bless
light for the size it comes woth a peteal to change effects witch is abig help very loud compared to other amp me andmy friends use at about the same watts the distortion isnt that good but you should use a rocktron or a gover'nor
This is my first Crate amp. I love the amp. I love the price. For the price tag with free shipping I am very pleased. For practice, the amp has a good quality sound and punch. The built in effects are OK but I'll probably add on pedals. Thank you very very much for saving me from the classified sections.
I've been a loyal customer to Crate until I tried the Marshall MG series. Honestly, Crate amps just sound like a cheap Marshall imitation. I've finally opened my eyes, or ears rather, to see that Crate sounds too dry and digital with not enough tone despite their so-called DSP. Sorry Crate. I'm not saying these are bad amps, just not my taste anymore. My review and ratings are really more of a comparison between these two brands. Bottom line, if you are a serious guitar player on a budget buy something else.
If your wanting something cheap to play over the drums for band practice and you dont have alot of money this is the amp for you. I dont really use much of it's natural distortion I mostly use the clean channel and run a my bose distortion pedal threw and it kicks. The effects are really fun too. Hella feed back but its worth it. I recommend this amp if your wanting something for fun or desperation like me, you wont be dis-satisfied at all.
I've had this amp for quite some time now and I love it. It's loud and has great distortion channels and effects. The two distortion channels can be dialed in to get a great metal sound, pop punk sound, blues sound, etc. It's a very versatile amp. I've had this thing on stage in many medium sized gigs and it has never let me down. Contrary to what I've read, this amp hasn't gotten muddy at all when the volume is at 10. However if for some reason it does, its easily fixed with a distortion pedal. Great buy for anyone looking to upgrade to a bigger amp that can be used for practice and gigs.
when I first got this amp it was awsome, but when on a gig and It was put to the test it rattles and buzz's the drummer held on to the main body and the noise stopped. The frame of the cab is not strong enough for this much power. If a thicker cab was available it would be a killer amp.I brought it back and got a fender 212R and it rocks with no noise
Do Not Buy This Amp. I Did'nt Even Buy It. When I Called To Order The Amp The Guy I Was Talking To Told Me Not To Buy It Becuase It Is Real Easy To Blow The Chip In It. He Said If You Blow A Fuse Or Your Electric Goes Out You Can Destroy The Chip. Do Not Buy This.
I've had this amp for a year and its still in great shape, great for practicing and playing small clubs, or parties
