I have had the Crate G412 for a few months. I got it to use with my Crate GLX1200H. To establish that I know a thing or two. I'm 53 years old and played since the Beatles started. Yes, I have two Fender tube amps. The 65 Custom Twin Reverb with a 15 inch speaker, all tube and 85 watts. The other Fender is a Hod Rod Deluxe, all tubes. My guitars: Gibson Les Paul Classic, American Fender Strat/Tele, and a semi hollow body Ibanez. I said all of that to say this. The Crate G412 is as good of a cabniet you will need.I bought this just to have a half stack. It sounds great, loud enough for any place I have played, and you don't have to mortgage the house to get one. The Crate will never take the place of my Fenders. Then again, the Fenders want take the place of the Crate. I think I will get one more cabniet to make a full stack. The thing I really like. The cabniets are only 54 lbs, your Marshall, B-52,etc, are 100lb plus. If your going to play this like a crazy person who only knows power chords and turns the amp sky high to cover their lack of playing ability. This amp is not for you. If your just a normal player who plays classic rock, blues, good sounding Metal, then buy this cabinet.

STAY AWAY!!!!I bought a top and bottom based on the reviews. I get them and ugh, they don't accommodate a standard sized head.I hear them, SUPER ugh!Good bright tone but no bass and no wonder, they have refrigerator magnets on the speakers to drive them.Only solution was to swap out two speakers from each cabinet for higher end speakers I had floating around. Ultimate, I could have bought the Behringer cabinets for less and only needed to modify the circuit for tone rather than change speakers and modify the circuit. The Behringer cabinet itself is rock solid, last you several decades of heavy professional use, even if you hate the speakers. Shame on everyone in the industry for f%$@ing us over with this garbage. A year before I bought mine, these were 400 WATT cabinets, not 100. They saved cost by reducing cabinet mass then pulled the bait and switch, slapping 25 watt speakers in them instead of balzy 100's. It's been 3-4 years and I still want my f&$%ing money back or for MusiciansFriend to make amends-I've spent THOUSANDS with them but never got a reasonable offer. I now design and build a lot of my own gear, circuits and all. I play neo classical metal which really means I play it all. I know quality whether it's gutter cheap or priced for only the rich.STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Speakers Blew After One Show

By ShredForALL

from Louisville, KY

I got the cab as a gift and its horrible. The sound is weak and at loud volumes very unclear. Then the first show I used it at ALL 4 speakers blew. I was running the MATCHING Crate head. So now its just trash sitting in the garage.

crate g412

By Anonymous

To all who think this is a good cab, pull the back off and look at those speakers. wow what pieces of crap. I traded an old Randall head for one of these cabs and it was awful. If I run this cab with my celestion equipped cab, you can't even hear it. Save your money and buy another cab. This is just an embarrassment. I sold it for a 100 bucks and was glad to see it go!

Great for the price...

By Anonymous

I've owned one of these cabs for about 4 years or so and it's always served me well. Recently it sounds as if one of the speakers has blown. Not bad considering I've really cranked it a lot and I tend to use a bass-heavy, meaty distorted tone. Although, I have heard of some amps [cabs] lasting twenty years plus with proper care (which I have always used). I expected this cab to last me a bit longer without having to replace anything, but for the price it's a great product and I'd always recommend it.

Crate Thumps...

Crate would be wise using the Vintage 30 series speakers for these. I am running a GLX head. I am impressed with the head, however I think that the cabinet is holding back the head.

ugh

first off, why would an amp company put this cab with a 120w head? it only handles 100w. that combo equals crap tone. If you dont turn the volume passed 3, you get awesome tone. Soon as you turn it up, it craps up big time. Shame on crate for putting this cab with a head more than 100w. And this thing isn't worth the money, more like $150.

Ok for the price

By MusicBox

This is one of the cheapest 4x12 cabs you can get. I guess you get what you payed for, the tone is really bad even with a nice tube head. It creates one of those high ear piercing sound. But it is cheap and loud, so I'll give you that.

Big Booty

A cab is a cab. Who would pay thousands of dollars for a cab when you can spend like a few hundred and get this? This is all you need. Just pick up a decent head, and run it through this. If you have a crappy head then of course this thing is gunna sound crappy. But for only being able to handle 100 watts this thing is really sweet. I've dropped this thing, it's fallen off stage, and I've had it at top volume. When I say TOP volume I mean it was blaring. I thought I was going to explode, but this thing held up fine. Get it.

I have been in a band for about 8 months now and have used this cab for about 3 of it and it just doesnt handle much wtts at all and if you turn it up 2 loud it distorts and just doesnt sound good at all. I have a marshall head and it makes my marshall head sound like crap. DO NOT BUY THIS

Great cab

This is one of the better cabs on the market. I've tried many cabs in this price range and this one wins. I play a Crate GT1200 head and a Dean Baby V, and this has great clean tone, and for distortion, well, it has earned a good rep with my band. Had it for a year, no problems yet.

if used with the gt1200h head it has extreme distortion. It's really good for heavy metal. This amp slays any Marshall i've ever played.

Cheap, but for good reason

By CampKY 125

from Mansfield, CT

I have been playing with a Peavey head into a Mesa Boogie 1x12 cab, which was about the same price as this 4x12, and I played this 4x12 one time instead of my Mesa. The 4x12 just doesn't have the same punch, and as loud as it goes, I just can't get the right sonud out of it.

For Starters

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is a pretty good cab to buy. I used it and it was really nice sounding. It is, however, not good for popular bands. If you are in some sort of local band, that is starting out, and has money, get this thing. It's pretty good. You won't need much for your club gigs. But if you are in a highly respected band, and you play at a lot of good sized venues, get something better, from Marshall or something.

I bought two cabinets. I use one with my Peavey Transtube 212 giving me a total of 6-12's. Sounds great. very clean sound. Craftman ship is very good, very professional and looks great. Can't beat the price overall.

You can't argue

By Cody RRR

from southern indiana

You can't argue, for the money its decent. This was my first cabinet I bought. I play with a mesa nomad 55, and after about two months with this cab I upgraded to a mesa recto standard. No comparison, the crate didn't give me the bottom end I was lookingfor, but I did like the clean tone though.

Just for the cab...

By EXIT91

from Indianapolis, IN

This was the first 412 cab I bought. I got it used from the local guitar shop. I own the flat front version. I played through it everyday with the older version of the crate 120w head. It was the Perfect starting rig! We played shows with it every weekend for nearly a year and the only problem I had with it were the handles broke while loading it into the van. I just made some of my own handles out of sheet metal. I also through some casters on the bottom to make it easier to move around. Not too long later I blew all four speakers at once (ran a much more powerful head through it). I put all new Celestion speakers in it, and that is when I fell in love. With the right speakers in it the enclosure sounds beautiful. Other than the handles it is built like a tank. It has been loaded and unloaded into vans/trailers, dropped down stairs, knocked over, and jumped off of for almost three years now. I am looking to pick up another one to replace the handles and speakers because I know it will handle anything I throw at it!

AWESOME IN PAIRS

By austin29803

First off this is a great cab when used with the right head. Currently I use a MX120R combo amp as a head, giving me 6x12's and 120Watts (i plan to get a real head and 2nd cab soon). I've read a couple reviews of people saying that this cab can't handle for crap. However, the cab only handles 100Watts RMS. If you buy TWO of these and use them together with a good head of 200Watts or less (non-tube) then you'll have no problem. If you think you can use any head with just one cab you're mistaken.

This cab is the first i got for my GLX212 combo(which i love) and soon i noticed that it did give out much power a cab should have. I would have sold it but instead i replaced the small power speakers with Celestion Vintage 30 Speakers. I guess you get what you pay for.

spend a little more

By Jeffsixstring

from muskegon, mi.

Ive own this cab for about 3 years. I play realy aggressive with bottom end, punchy mids and expect crystal highs! When I first got it it didnt sound right, come to find out it was wired wrong the cabinet rattled but I was trying for cheaper not better and I got what I pay'd for. I bought replacement speakers, emminence Manowars, and casters, better wiring and Wow this thing realy came alive! But for what I got into it I could of got something better. Im very pleased with it now it handles more than anything thrown at it and seems to sound better with age!

Horrible.

By Josh frazier

This is the worst sounding cab I've ever had the displeasure of playing through. It doesn't cut through at all, and just hisses when you crank it past 2 or 3. With the "matching" 120w head, it sounds even worse. Save up your money and get a tube combo or something. Anything but this.
