This amp does a lot of things right, with a few questionable "features." For some background, I'm in a band that plays medium-sized venues and wanted something strong to use on stage without miking it. On the power side, this thing takes the cake. It blows away any Marshall 100W stack, and pretty much most other stacks I found in this power range. Pretty nice for a 2-12" setup. The effects are, well, a fun novelty, at best. They're pretty quality effects, but you simply aren't given enough control for them to be useful. When I'm playing alone, I love to mess around with them and get weird sounds, but frankly, I could never see using any of them on stage. If you're buying this for effects, you're buying it for the wrong reason. The distortion is also questionable. The gain channel is simply too bassy and muddy for me; if you like crunch, it's good, I suppose. The solo channel is decent, and blows the water out of the cheaper marshall distortions, but still lacks the bite I enjoy. The clean channel is clear, powerful, and has great EQ control. My recommended setup: distortion pedal into the clean channel, along with whatever effects pedals you want, and then an external 4x12 cab to get that sucker really roaring.

Well, I have owned this amp for quite some time. When I first got it I thought it was the greatest thing! Now it just kind of pisses me off. This is the second Crate amp I've owned and I don't think I would buy another. I had a small practice amp that lost its distortion effect shortly after I started using it. I decided to get this and the digital effects also change on me when switching between distortion channels and clean. You have to reach down turn the knob to another effect then back to where you had it. That is just NOT acceptable. There's no way this could ever be used on a gig, just for that reason alone. This amp has pretty decent distortion and volume. With a little tweaking you can get a good range of sounds between the Rythym and Lead channels. Clean is nice too. Very loud like I said. My other guitarist got a 1/2 stack 120 watt tube setup and this little crate can go as loud as his 1/2 stack. Its not starved for volume. But if you plan to use any effects you cannot switch channels! A word on the effects themselves is they are almost useless. I only use 2 of the 16, there is a severe lack of adjustablility with the preset effects which make most of them useless. The last couple of months now I have also encountered a power supply problem which sounds like a short in wiring that comes and goes. Very Very frustrating. I would sway anyone away from this amp. Its very unfortunate.

This Guitar is good for starters, but as you mature as a guitarist, you will outgrow it. The finish on this will eventually chip, and the neck will warp. You?ll always be adjusting the strings, because they buzz like a wasp from hell. I probably wouldn't have bought this guitar if I knew then what I know now. I probably should've saved up for a cheap RG series guitar.
I've had this amp well over a year. I almost sent it back but unfortunately gave it a second chance. The tone is passable at lower volume but loses all character when cranked. The distortion sounds rather fuzzy to my ears and ALL the voicings on this amp seem a bit left of center...not quite right. Price with amp with other combos, including this model WITHOUT the red LED lighting feature, or even without the effects. At the regular price you are just getting raped. Buyer beware on this one....
I purchased the glx212 this week , actually puts out 120 watts at 4ohms , = 60 Im guessing , but with the twin 12's it really is a full sound.. the lead channel does my kind of rhythm - ac/dc , areosmith van halen.. i use a dsp.. but this channel is good enough. Decent volume .. the kicker is ... this bass comes out .. real true ... sonic sort of goodness.. trust crate for value.. and forget it not being purr fect..its real nice!
So after searching for a mid size, mid power amp, I came to Crate and thought for the money it was the best way to go. It's hard to be the bigger names Line 6, Marshall, Fender, but this amp does a great job. It's almost got to much power. My favorite feature by far is the on-board tuner. I didn't think I'd use it very much but now I do all the time. Crate GLX212 looks good and performs ever better. I've had it for about 3 year and it rocks, no one problem!
I bought this beauty from a local music dealer, and from the second I turned it on, I feel in love with it. The 16-effects really drive you over the edge. The distortion is very nice too. Personally, I don't enjoy the rhythm channel that much (I play metal) but, I def gives you a lot of selection and variety.
This is a really good amp. It?s got a great clean sound and I good solo feature. Although the distortion is not the best it is still good.
Ive had this amp for about 2 years now and it has never let me down. Gig after gig, it keeps on going, but i have noticed that with frequent use of the lights sometimes they will flicker and will dim the louder it is, but that doesnt bother me. There really isnt another guitar on the market thats this nice and can beat the price. The only thing im not a fan of on this amp is the open back but it does give a good place to put picks and strings. The tuner is quite handy, but if youre worried about this thing not being loud enough you can just get a cheap crate head and throw that on, this amp is amazing
I used to own this amp. It was my first non-practice amp, and at first, before I understood anything about what a good guitar tone is supposed to soundl like, I was thrilled with it. Once I started grow as a musician, however, I began to realize that the distorted channel sounds really really muddy. The clean channel is actually not bad, so if you go with this amp, I'd get some stomp boxes or an effects processor for distortion. Really, though, there are much better amps out there for the money.
I had this amp for 2 years and I regret buying it. The clean gave so much feedback, the distortion channels sounded the same no matter what eq setting you out in. I hated this amp and switched to fender and am glad I sold this peice of crap.
Loud, relativley compact, and very customizable, this amp is a quality one on all levels. I've had mine since the summer of 2003, and have had zero hardware problems. I jam mostly on metal stuff, and using the solo channel, I am able to get the high gains I am looking for. I'm not that big a fan of the rhythm channel... there's a bit of a thinner sound that I don't like. The clean is very nice though. The digital effects are clear sounding and easily adjusted. A solid buy for the money. I'll be sticking with this one for at least 4 more years.
