This amp does a lot of things right, with a few questionable "features." For some background, I'm in a band that plays medium-sized venues and wanted something strong to use on stage without miking it. On the power side, this thing takes the cake. It blows away any Marshall 100W stack, and pretty much most other stacks I found in this power range. Pretty nice for a 2-12" setup. The effects are, well, a fun novelty, at best. They're pretty quality effects, but you simply aren't given enough control for them to be useful. When I'm playing alone, I love to mess around with them and get weird sounds, but frankly, I could never see using any of them on stage. If you're buying this for effects, you're buying it for the wrong reason. The distortion is also questionable. The gain channel is simply too bassy and muddy for me; if you like crunch, it's good, I suppose. The solo channel is decent, and blows the water out of the cheaper marshall distortions, but still lacks the bite I enjoy. The clean channel is clear, powerful, and has great EQ control. My recommended setup: distortion pedal into the clean channel, along with whatever effects pedals you want, and then an external 4x12 cab to get that sucker really roaring.

Well, I have owned this amp for quite some time. When I first got it I thought it was the greatest thing! Now it just kind of pisses me off. This is the second Crate amp I've owned and I don't think I would buy another. I had a small practice amp that lost its distortion effect shortly after I started using it. I decided to get this and the digital effects also change on me when switching between distortion channels and clean. You have to reach down turn the knob to another effect then back to where you had it. That is just NOT acceptable. There's no way this could ever be used on a gig, just for that reason alone. This amp has pretty decent distortion and volume. With a little tweaking you can get a good range of sounds between the Rythym and Lead channels. Clean is nice too. Very loud like I said. My other guitarist got a 1/2 stack 120 watt tube setup and this little crate can go as loud as his 1/2 stack. Its not starved for volume. But if you plan to use any effects you cannot switch channels! A word on the effects themselves is they are almost useless. I only use 2 of the 16, there is a severe lack of adjustablility with the preset effects which make most of them useless. The last couple of months now I have also encountered a power supply problem which sounds like a short in wiring that comes and goes. Very Very frustrating. I would sway anyone away from this amp. Its very unfortunate.

I got this amp 3 days ago after my very old tube mate 30 blew its speaker. I went to the guitar shop and purchased this for arond $200 , which was definatley a good price for 120watts. The solo channel with the reverb is amazing with my B.C Rich. the effects are great giving you a range from flanger to wah. Good amp, Good power, Good price.
As a guitar player at my church, this amp does far more than I need it to, but it's nice to know the power is there. It has the best "clean" tone of any amp I've tried and the rhythm channel's crunch is great. The solo channel has plenty of power to get me arrested for disturbing the peace. If you're considering Carvin, Line 6, or even a Mesa Boogie or Rivera, take a long look at the Crate GLX212. You'll be glad you did!
I purchased the glx212 this week , actually puts out 120 watts at 4ohms , = 60 Im guessing , but with the twin 12's it really is a full sound.. the lead channel does my kind of rhythm - ac/dc , areosmith van halen.. i use a dsp.. but this channel is good enough. Decent volume .. the kicker is ... this bass comes out .. real true ... sonic sort of goodness.. trust crate for value.. and forget it not being purr fect..its real nice!
This amp has everthing a metal guitar player needs. From crunching distortion to clean acoustics, the sound is amazing.I needed an amp that had power and this was the one. What also is so great about this amp is the built in tuner. Now at shows it easy for me to stay in tune. Another great thing is the built in effects, there are 16 great effects that R sure to raise the creativity level. This amp also looks great with its lit up control panel. Buy this amp!!
Finally!! I helluva guitar amp for the bucks! I'm in love!
I got this amp when I was 14 for my birthday. I've been using it for about a year now. The solo distortion sounds like crap compared to my metal zone on my boss me-50. I dont like that theres no tweakability in the effects. All in all, a good starter amp.
I have used this amp for a lot of shows. However, it is not that great. I could never use the amp distortion. The sound always got buried by the rest of the band at every show. The clean channel is amazing, but I would always have to use a pedal for distortion. When playing in a loud metal band, I would have to be pushing the amp as high as it can go while still sounding decent, just to play over the drummer. I would not reccommend this amp a professional guitarist. Great for beginners.
This Guitar is good for starters, but as you mature as a guitarist, you will outgrow it. The finish on this will eventually chip, and the neck will warp. You?ll always be adjusting the strings, because they buzz like a wasp from hell. I probably wouldn't have bought this guitar if I knew then what I know now. I probably should've saved up for a cheap RG series guitar.
So after searching for a mid size, mid power amp, I came to Crate and thought for the money it was the best way to go. It's hard to be the bigger names Line 6, Marshall, Fender, but this amp does a great job. It's almost got to much power. My favorite feature by far is the on-board tuner. I didn't think I'd use it very much but now I do all the time. Crate GLX212 looks good and performs ever better. I've had it for about 3 year and it rocks, no one problem!
This amp is really good for the money distortion is excellent and clean channel you have a lot of control over how you want it to sound the foot switch is the only problem after about 7 months it stopped working but over all get this its loud awesome distortion and effects are cool to experiment with.
