I have been playing Crates for years and just plugged into one of these at the local music center. This is probably one of the best sounding Crates on the market. You will definately get your biggest bang for the buck with this amp. I played a Fender Telecaster Nashville Deluxe with the dual TexMex pickups and this thing sounded terrific on any setting. Based on my luck with Crate and longevity of quality, I would have no problem recommending this amp to any player at any level.

I've been using the same Crate 100w combo amp for almost 10 years and it still works fine. They last a really long time if you take good care of them. Crate aren't the best amps, but for the price they can't be beat. I just got this GTD120 and I'm very impressed with the tone compared to my old GXT100. I loved the spring reverb in my old amp and i'm disapointed with the DSP effects in the new one. I probably won't use the DSP effects at all because they add noise, don't sound great to begin with, plus for some reason they sound weak when you use them with the footswitch which makes no sense to me. The gain channels sound awesome at low levels, but at high volume there is massive feedback. However, I use effects pedals for my distortion and chorus. I'll just have to get a reverb or delay pedal. Playing my Schecter Damien through a Digitech Metal Master in the GTD120 clean channel sounds better than I could have ever hoped for! Clean, clear, and a rumbling low end. So if you're looking for a good, inexpensive clean amp for small gigs and practice and want to use external effects then you can't go wrong with this amp!

    meh...

This amp is nice for the price. The onboard effects are pretty not-awesome though (delay, reverb, echo, chorus, etc...). It does sound quite nice though through the clean channel.

    Great Deal

    By musicmanmike

I just purchased this amp recently and I am very impressed with it's quality, power, and sound. This is not my first Crate. I have a Crate C40 which is now 15 years old. I also own a Marshall 250DFX and a small Fender Frontman 25. I am very pleased with this purchase and I am sure I will get many years of use out of it. The only issue I have with the Crate GTD 120 is the effects channel makes noise. Not a buz but some type of slight hum. For the price of this amp, it is certainly a great deal.

    Loud 'N' Proud

This GTD120 is pretty darn loud, and with my Korg AX5G, I've got one Mother of an amp! But with that said, The Digi effects are just ok. They work but anything more than "just on" with each effect sounds a bit over the top. The reverb is better than the rest. Now for the bad. I have experienced a loud popping. This is caused by the digi effect control knob which is flawed by design in my opinion. The knob is smooth just like any volume or tone knob, it should be notched and or click into each setting. What I mean is by not having a defined clearance between the flange and delay spectrum's it will make really loud pops. I don't know if it's just my amp or what? But that is something easily overcome by dialing a hair farther. just don't dial it there! As for the High Gain 3rd channel, I'm guessing this was designed for low volume bedroom practice or something. It sounds killer until you crank it up. FEEEEEEEEDBACK! past 4 which is way loud! but you can get the same tone from the overdrive channel at loud levels where as at low volume the overdrive is lacking. All in all, for the money You will not find a louder amp that comes with a 5 year transferable warranty with 2 years on the speakers.

I got this amp about 4 weeks ago and I fell in love, I play in a band and all my band mates love the sound and it works great for live gigs, and for even bigger shows I like how you can use it as a head on a cab, but for the price you can't get a better 2x12.

Great amp if your on a budget

    By You_Had_Know_Dat

I have been playing guitar for almost 10 years now. After going through several stages in musicianship i have also undergone many equipment changes. I now play much lower volume inprovisational music and this amp suits me perfectly. no its not tube... no it doesnt have the sweetest tone on the market, but its 200 bucks. If you play softer music and use effects, this amp should work out just fine. I was tired of hauling around half stacks and other huge equipment but now i have something with plenty of power and doesnt take 20 minutes to unload into the venue and at practice. i give this amp a great review based on price, because i am far from rich. if you got the money, buy some better stuff... if not, then go with this.

    Great amp!

    By TyeT

A few friends of mine own this amp. The sound quality is amazing at low volumes. The effects are Great. But if you push the volume up past half u start getting feedback and such. Overall its a great amp, especially if you are a beginner. Also if you gig it doesnt need to be anywhere past 3/8's volume(if you play at a venue with a pa).

    my live amp

    By KURT-D0Agl

I got this amp 2 days ago and haven't stopped playing since I got it. alot of people dont take the time to find good settings and instead just crank and play. the effects are okay and the tuner isnt useable for me but neither bother me either. the distortion is great. the clean channel is duh clean and works for andything clean the overdrive channel is good for AC/DC and light distortion and the high gain channel is good for heavy metal and other heavy music. definently worth the money.
