This is a great reverb pedal. It has real springs inside, is simple to operate, and sounds fantastic. However it will sound like crap it you don't use it right. If you use the pre-amp distortion on you amp and put this pedal before the amp, the reverb will get distorted in the pre-amp and will sound like total s**t. thats why you must think of your amps distortion as a distortion pedal. you put the reverb pedal in the fx loop of your amp after distortion and your golden. if you run you amp clean and use distortion pedals for all your dirt, just make sure its after the distortion pedal and your still golden. its weird though that, if you use a marshall class 5 or plexi, an amp with no pre-amp distortion just power amp distortion(real distortion-crank it and love it) it still sounds golden. So, to summarize things, great pedal as long as you put it after distortion unless its real tube overdrive, not pre-amp distortion.

Wanna make your guitar sound like its being played through a broken pawn shop Sears amplifier with the worst reverb you've ever seen in your life?Well then, this is the pedal for you.Without question, one of the worst sounding reverbs I've ever tried-- THANK GOD I didn't buy it sight unseen online.Hey, I have a GREAT Danelectro Reel Echo Peday-- sounds wonderful. The quality and sound of the Spring King is in a different catagory altogether-- it is a toy.It has one sound, with a bit of tone control-- that one sound is the sound of a REALLY BAD spring reverb. Might be good for novelty, or if you are somewhat trying to recreate the sound of an old spring reverb-- but not really- because I've had amps, like a Fender Twin and others-- and this sounds NOTHING like a good spring reverb.Cheap, irritating, like a spring in a garbage can.And the pad to recreate the sound of bashing your amp? hahahahahahhaha not even close. A total joke. This is a sad excuse for spring reverb.

Comments about Danelectro Spring King Spring Reverb:

I really liked the sound of the reverb, it definately captures the spring reverb sound. I had to return the unit because it could not be fully bypassed, I could always hear a faint reverb effect with the unit off. If the reverb was true byapss I think it would be more usable.

Sounds perfect! Its the closest thing to having the surf sound, without being at the beach & in the 1960s. Lots of fun!

Surf Guitar Spring King

Comments about Danelectro Spring King Spring Reverb:

This unit sounds best and has a real spring in it that creates a authentic spring reverb heard on all the surf and instrumental guitar albums - I have many of these type units - this is the best to me - I play through it every day for a year now no problems once and a while the spring jams but all you have to do is bang on the kick pad and it's ok - Walk Don't Run and Pipeline type instrumentals sound great through this unit - Real Vacuum Tube units get hot and have more service problems than this unit - I have to admit I didn't like it at first but later learned how to use it right - it helps to play it through another reverb unit or use the Amps room reverbs with it in line - wow what a different that makes with the spring king sound - if you play across the strings on the guitar at the 22nd fret and slide down the neck it sounds like your playing under water - you just have to experiment - I wasn't impressed with the one page manual it comes with - but in tradition of the Fender Tank Reverb Unit that came out in 1962 it was about as informative - I play a Fender Jaguar with a Mustang bridge on it - I haven't tried any other guitars through it yet because that's all I use now - so I'm not sure about other axe's through it but I would feel safe to say others would sound just as good esp a Strat etc.. I feel it's better than the Holy Grail I have for Surf Music anyway - I tried a Boss Super Chorus pedal throught it playing Sleep Walk a Slide guitar instrumental on my Jag - wow it sounded just like the old record on just a 6 string - so you have to experiment with it - what else daaaaaaaa it's hang 10 dudes buy it

Under-rated

Comments about Danelectro Spring King Spring Reverb:

This is the only reverb in its price range I know of that will provide an authentic Surfy drip style reverb. It's also the cheapest real spring reverb out there. Yes, it can sound trashy if you crank everything up to maximum, but it also can sound very good if you tweak the controls. The addition of some subtle slapback delay mixed in there was not publicized by Danelectro, but it helps to make the reverb sound bigger. Perfect for surf or rockabilly.

Comments about Danelectro Spring King Spring Reverb:

This is a great spring unit. Sounds amazing when your run it through a tube amp..like the Epiphone Valve JR head...hint hint! Once you get used to the sounds this thing makes you should not have a problem getting that vintage reverb we all know and love! The kick pad is fun idea, for those of you who like to smash your amps to get that crashing spring sound..! Worth the money

The best modern nostalgic

By Littleboot-y2W4N

from Chesapeake, VA

Comments about Danelectro Spring King Spring Reverb:

I bought a "Spring King" to be used as an effects prossessor for my studio. I run it through an aux send to the spring kings input and then back to a pannable return on my board. My send volume is all the way up, my input on the spring king is about in the middle most of the time, and my return volume is in full position, I individualize the volume for each channel being sent through the aux. I cannot believe the sound! It's just like the old "Tank" spring amps. The volume on this unit is the "Input" volume of the signal, the harder you drive this input it sounds "Tube" compressed which is what I like. The Tone knob in the middle is the "color" of the reverb, it can sound like the old 50's spring reverberation amps, or 60's and 70's sounds. The reverb knob simply adds that "Room to Hall" sound. The greatist thing about this pedal is that it truly is a real spring reverb! It has springs inside of it, I can see them through the battery compartment. All I can say is this pedal is quality built, state of the art, and it simulates the best spring reverbs that ever were. The greatist thing about it is that it's modern, and will last alot longer then the older units, and it's a clear dirty spring reverb sound without all the noise! This is an Awesome unit!
