Two minor quibbles and fantastic value.
Aside from a volume drop when looping, I can't fault this pedal. Ultimately it will come down to whether you prefer digital or analog delay sounds. I generally prefer the cleaner character of a digital delay, but every ear is different. In all likelihood, if I could find and afford one of the vaunted Echoplex or Space Echo units, I would probably have a different opinion. One thing the Digitech has going for it is versatility. The sheer number of sounds you can dial in is inspiring. I am very partial to the Modulated and Lo-Fi settings right now. I can get an almost keyboardish background shimmer when I pair a clean signal with reverb to it in Modulated and a great, killer Stoner Rock sound when I have distortion in front of it. The looping is limited but more than sufficient for my needs. Unfortunately the looping and delay are either/or propositions--something for future versions to include would surely be the ability to do both at the same time. I have delay on the Mustang amp I use--but the Digitech is sooooo much better and varied. This really is a bargain for the price. If you can't afford the Memory Man or the boutique models, I would certainly reccomend this one.
Heavy. Solid. Rugged. Tough. Thick. Inspires confidence and makes me feel like I got my money's worth.
You can't really find another viable option in this price range. Next stop: Memory Man with Hazarai, if you can afford it.

There were some things about this pedal that I didn't like. The digital delays sounded too trebly, with no bass on the repeats. It sounded harsh and unmusical. The tape delay had a bad-sounding distortion in the repeats. I really liked the analog delay setting though. However, the knobs do not turn smoothly, they turn in increments a step at a time. I found myself unable to dial in the exact sound I wanted because the time knob would move from too short to too long, and you couldn't set it in between. The pedal was well built, and I like how they designed it to be used with higher output pickups. Also, the option to have the delay keep going after turning it off is cool. Overall though I decided to not keep th is pedal.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
I own this one and also the Hardwire metal distortion pedal. Digitech pedals are well made and Hardwire line has a great fit and finish. Sturdy controls, seems to work 100%.
Although this pedal is two pedals in one...Mainly a delay with a cool little loop feature if you want to do that. I bought it for the delay features.
My favorites are analog for metal and modulation for clean.
What I found was the delay sweep/time has four differant perameter sweeps and this is something you need to take your time and move the knobs slowly to hear the differance to find a sweet spot.
I layer pedals for tone and have always combined a delay in the front of all the other pedals and a reverb near the end of the pedal chain.
This pedal dosen't work well in the front of my pedal chain, it over powers the signal when I switch on a distortion pedal. The repeats are too strong, not suttle at all. It might be something I am doing wrong in the settings, only time will tell.
I still own a cheaper brand delay with less control but it's suttle delay and works better up front. I haven't given up yet on this one but it's not suttle up front using a dirt pedal.
Good delay once you can figure out how to use all the options and find the sweet spot.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
I have 4 peddles of this series and they have all fit together extremely well. I haven't found anything to really complain about. They come with a velcro patch if you need one for a peddle board. Also they come with a nob cover so your settings dont change from moving them around. They are very sturdy constructed and sound awesome.
Plenty of delay options and they are all very transparent through my rig. I have ran this peddle straight inline and through my effects loop. I am using a Mini Rectofier. I haven't jumped into the looping of this peddle yet because i didnt buy it for that.
These are well built constructed to keep up on heavy use.
This series of pedal's are all higher then other options you can buy. I would have even given a 10 here to only because i think they could drop the price a bit.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
This box is top-notch. Lots of options, and everything sounds awesome. Also was able to loop two instruments at once with no trouble. Tons of options and excellent build quality make this pedal a winner for me.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
I own all eight of these Hardwire pedals and among the non-distortion pedals this is by far my favorite. All settings are excellent and some sound absolutely fantastic, the Slap and Lo-Fi being particularly sweet among the lot. The looper is kind of pointless as it's only twenty seconds but who cares? The delays are worth the price of admission and the tweekabilty is spot on. I love my MXR Carbon Copy for all its analog goodness, but this box wins hands down in the versatility department. And, as always with these Hardwires, the build quality and solid looks are icing on the cake. Yet another nice piece. Dial it in.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
i've had this box for a lil more than a year now and i love it! it's built like a tank and does give away when standing on it with 1 foot. it has a great variety of delays and delay speeds. the looper has a perfect amount of time for what i use it for. the only thing i don't like it the reverse delay. i also think the looper should have a reverse feature but maybe they'll do that when upgrading this box. it's definitely worth the price. buy it now!
Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
Never have I seen a delay with this much flexibility at this price. The quality is top notch and it is true stereo. That's right, true stereo, not just stereo out, but stereo in as well. The wide range of delay times is nothing less than amazing. The different modes are all great, and the 20 second looper? Get out. While the differences in sound between analog, lo-fi, and tape are very subtle, they are there. Very good mimicing of analog with self oscillation, it takes it a minute, but it will give you those screeching droned out noises if you want it to. Nothing beats a true analog pedal for that type of noise, but this one comes close. And the digital delays, are pristine. Absolute clarity with seemingly infinite repeats on tap. And tap tempo. What can't this pedal do?
Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
I just replaced a malfunctioning Boss DD-7 for this and I really can't complain...the DL-8 is cheaper, has a few more delay choices such as lo-fi, tape and slap, and it's a heck of a lot sturdier (almost too beefy). The delay sound itself is also considerably more subtle and "clean" sounding. It's hard to put my finger on what exactly it is but there is certainly a difference in delay behavior and tone here. The change will take some time to get used to after playing a "stickier" sounding digital boss delay for so long. The cons are minimal, the dd-7 has features this pedal does not and vice versa. But what I DO miss is the dd-7's reverse function, which was JUST reverse with no delay. I haven't found the DL-8's reverse particularly useful since it doesn't allow any of the straight guitar signal to bleed through as the dd-7 does. This pedal only allows you to adjust the volume, which is fairly pointless. The dd-7 lets you use reverse as a strange accentuation to your playing. The dl-8 is more like a useless trick. The only other issues I can think of are 1) an input for external tap tempo would have been nice and 2) it almost has too much delay time. Frankly the knobs go way higher than necessary. Oh well.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire DL-8 Delay/Looper Guitar Effects Pedal:
I bought this solely for use as a looper. For the price I have found nothing else nearly as good. True stereo I/O, awesome sound quality are what sold me. The enclosure is rock solid, maybe twice the weight of a Boss pedal.Best looper in the sub-$400 range I've found, and it requires no extra accessories to unlock its full potential. If you just want the delays and don't care about the looper, try the Digidelay. All Hardwire pedals come with a nice rubber knob protector and some glow-in-the-dark decals too. Top marks!
