Rare is it that an effects pedal manufacturer makes a singularly historic pedal. Some folks refer to these as "Grail pedals". You know what I mean; one of THOSE pedals. Like the Ibanez TS808...or the Boss DS-1 and MT-2. Or like the Cry-baby Wah. All produce a signature tone so brilliant that it stands head-and-shoulders above other effects pedals. Digitech...who has produced solidly good pedals for years...and has even logged a couple of Historic-level effects (the Whammy and the Space Station) has finally created an overdrive pedal that deserves to be logged into the Legend book. I'm talking about the Hardwire CM-2 Tube Overdrive pedal. Sure, their Bad Monkey pedal made some excellent tones...but it just lacked that little extra to make it a Grail pedal. Well...the CM-2 has no such shortcoming. This pedal's tones are every bit as mind-blowing as my TS808. To be fair, the CM-2 actually offers up more tonal diversity than the TS808. The boutique design of the pedal makes it very attractive...and it just oozes appeal. The two band EQ works surprisingly well. In particular, one of the CM-2's strengths is how much Low-end it will push. Candidly, in three decades of playing guitar, I've never encountered a pedal with this much low-end adjustment or PUSH. Though made in China, this pedal's quality is quite good. Mine came with some scuffs on the matte paint that are only visible when you really look closely. Other than that, everything is spot on. I've got custom pedals that don't do what the CM-2 does; THAT is just how good this pedal really is. I consider this pedal to be one of those rare Grail effects...one whose tonal output is simply mind-blowing. Good job Digitech!

Well, I really wanted to like this pedal, I've got a Bad Monkey and a JT Pedal Valve Boy (uses 2 12ax7's). I will only compare this to the Bad Monkey. Big Disapointment is all I can say, I've returned it to purchase a second bad monkey and use them in series. This Pedal Does color your sound unlike the bad monkey which is transparent. Not only does it color your sound, its down right muddy when using it at resonable volumes. I'm using a Class A tube amp (Gibson GA40RVT)which sounds fantastic on its own and sounds just as great with a Bad Monkey in front of it, but the Hardwire Overdrive would not produce a transparent sound. Could not get the mud out. Also although its built great and looks great, it in fact does not weigh nearly as much as the slightly smaller Bad Monkey. I'm a tone freak, and was really wanting to like this pedal because of the True Bypass.. My conclusion is "True Bypass" may be over rated. I'm just going to keep the Monkey's pluged in to my One Spot and call it good.. Make up your own minds but if your looking for transparency.. this aint it..

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
I have been using this pedal for a solid 3 years now, played dozens of shows with it, stomped on it over and over again and it continues to deliver. If you're thinking about buying some fancy Tubescreamer re-issue, save your money and buy this. It is fat, warm and toneful, transparent enough to let your guitar shine through, but not so transparent that it doesn't sound good on the clean channel of an amp. The bass and treble controls that replace a global "tone" control are far superior for tone shaping, in my opinion. I have tried other pedals like the BB Pre-Amp, AC Booster, OCD, TS-808's, this pedal is just as good if not better. It never leaves my board.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
I really liked this overdrive on my guitar. It's pretty close to a TS808 in my opinion, but with more gain, and more options with the Classic/Modern switch. I was so thrilled today when I found out it works great with bass! Many guitar overdrive pedals don't and I was expecting to have to spend a bunch more money to get an Aguilar or EBS overdrive for my bass, but I read some reviews that it does great on bass, and doesn't suck out your low end like a lot of other pedals. It's true!!! I used it on a set today, and I loved it! Probably the best overdrive you can get for your bass in this price range. I'm so impressed. Digitech, wow! And the design is just genius. I mean I don't think anyone has thought of the unique features they have. They really do an amazing job in designing pedals. They have so many nice features you just never see in so called "boutique" pedals.

Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
I have been playing guitar for 30 years and have owned all of the major brand overdrive units as well as several boutique pedals. I dont know how this one has escaped me for so long. This pedal to me has that high quality crunch/overdrive sound that I was looking for. The EQ knobs solve the problem of the midrange spike that the tube screamer has. Its not super fizzy like a BOSS. And with the two modes, you can almost consider this a distortion pedal as well. Lots of modern gain in the saturation mode. Just an incredible pedal. I'm buying a couple more of these to just put up as I hear they are discontinuing this line. I run this right after my RC Booster and it has become my main overdrive unit. Excellent!
Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
A couple times a year, I get my TS9DX Turbo Tube Screamer out of the closet and A/B it on my pedalboard with the Hardwire CM-2 Overdrive. After about 10 minutes, the TS9DX goes back in the closet. To my ears, the Hardwire seems fuller, brighter (if you want it), and more dynamic. The bass and treble tone EQ makes a big difference. OD pedals and tube amps are a personal taste thing, but I still prefer the Hardwire.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
I've had a Hardwire Delay pedal for a few years now, and if I could only have one pedal, that would be it. Its a shame that the Hardwire line has been dropped by Digitech. I assume to consolodate their line and promote the new iStomps.
The Hardwire pedals are very well made, sound great and do what they're supposed to do. The only issue I have is with the velcro that comes with the pedal. It doesn't stick to the bottom strongly enough to not remain stuck to the pedal board when I remove the pedal. I had to use the "industiral" velcro from Home Depot to do the job correctly.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal is amazing! It gave me some tasty tones with the eq set flat! Start messing with the eq and what you have is just GRAVY!
Like I said...built like a tank and the controls feel great!
Deffinitly worth the money!
This is an amazing pedal the only thing lacking in features is a middle position on the switch
BEAST This thing is built like a tank and everything about it feels SOLID. The knobs are perforated and turn with ease wich is why the stomplock is a big bonus
For the money...you cant get any better
Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
Its a good pedal, i was looking for a tube screamer to use on my new amp. I read the description and many reviews and i still wast sure if i would get this or some boutique pedal, but i took a leap and got it. I have to say I'm very happy with it, is warm and you can get it from a slight boost to a slightly crunchy tone.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
After reading good reviews in a few magazines I purchased a HardWire CM-2. One pedal purchase for which I have no regrets. It is first in my overdrive/distortion chain and is on 90% of the time. I use it in the classic setting most of the time only because the modern is voiced like another pedal further down the chain. The CM-2 give me a great on the edge tube overdrive that cleans up nicely when playing softer and gets thick and "tubey" when I dig in. I may swap other pedals in and out, but this one stays on my board!
Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
I had been looking for a pedal like this for along time. I have been playing music for quite sometime I play a telecaster with a carvin neck pickup and a Bill Lawrence bridge and I also have nashville deluxe all punched threw a Fender hotrod deluxe. I have recently added this pedal to my board and I have to say it was worth the price it produced a creamy fat tone that i have been looking for I moved this pedal in and my DS1 out along with my BD2 pedal now i can shredd and keep the tone and thats what it is all about, great pedal.
Comments about DigiTech HardWire Series CM-2 Tube Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
I've been looking for a TS or TS clone but never liked the nasal midrange or rather "dead" sound they produce. I've been reading more & more about Hardwire & have been impressed. So when I found the CM-2 used for $50 (in brand-new condition), I just had to plug it in.I played a half-dead epi LP studio through the CM-2 into an equally-abused Crate Blue Voodoo 1x12 combo. I was instantly blown away. I've never heard that versatility or clarity out of a TS.I brought it home & plugged it into the front of my 5150 (which has never played nice with OD pedals) & got everything from bluesy, barely there overdrive to classic rock fuzz. I don't like one-trick ponies and this is not.
