OVERVIEW

The pedal that changes everything now with 10 free e-pedals included!

The DigiTech iStomp is an entirely new concept in pedals. It works just like a traditional stompbox with one huge exception. It can be completely reconfigured by loading it with any of the many e-pedals available in the Stomp Shop app. The iStomp now comes with 10 of the top ePedals, right out of the box!

Unlike devices that require you to stay tethered to your iOS device, the iStomp does all of its processing internally. This means professional-quality, high-definition signal processing with no latency and you dont need your iOS device while youre playing.

See what the new world of e-pedals can do for your music.

Stomp Shop App
Connect the iStomp to an iOS device using the DigiTech Smart Cable. In about the same time it takes to download a song, you can completely reconfigure the iStomp with any e-pedal from your virtual road case using the Stomp Shop app. Disconnect the Smart Cable and youre ready to use your iStomp just like you would any traditional pedal. Just download the software for free at http://www.digitech.com/en-US/softwares/stomp-shop-ios-43.

e-pedal Virtual Road Case
The Stomp Shop saves a record of all the e-pedals you purchase becoming your e-pedal virtual road case. You can now carry your entire e-pedal collection with you on your phone. From the Stomp Shop app you can reload any e-pedal to your iStomp at any time.

e-pedal Custom LED Color
You can choose one the color of the 9 dot LED light on their iStomp when you load an e-pedal from the Stomp Shop App e-pedal store and virtual road case. It is a great way to identify each e-pedal when it is loaded on your iStomp.

DigiTech Smart Cable (DSC for iOS)
The new DigiTech Smart Cable (DSC) is a proprietary cable developed by DigiTech in conjunction with Apple that allows direct communication between DigiTech products and iOS devices such as an iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad. The iStomp along with the Stomp Shop App are the first DigiTech products to incorporate the new DSC cable and DSC Port.

I think this pedal sounds fantastic, and it's built as well as anything else I've used. The configurable LED is pretty cool as well. I know many guitarists are hung up on the true-bypass issue, and I am as well to an extent. BUT, the very first thing on my board is a BS-2 buffer/spliiter, from Axxess Electronics, which converts my signal to low impedance, and from that point on, there is no signal loss, extra noise, or any other audible issues. I can run true bypass and buffered devices w/o any problems. It's all in how you set up your pedal board.
It's a simple stompbox, but I love the fact that I can use it as a supplement to my pedal board. I find that on occasion I need an octaver, or a particular overdrive and with this I don't have to buy an additional pedal. I can just download the model from my iPod touch and for that night, I have the extra flavor the gig calls for. I only have to buy it once and the models are inexpensive.
This unit is built quite well. More importantly, I love what my ears are hearing. The models are very, very accurately done. I've owned, or have borrowed friends pedals from which some of the models are derrived, and I can say that DigiTech did an amazing job getting them to sound authentic. The dynamics really shined: the Redline overdrive, as well as the Glimmer and Rodent drives cleaned up when rolling off my volume, and they didn't color the sound of my guitar. I've played a couple of different guitars through this pedal, using several different models and they all let the natural characters of each guitar shine through. I'm very picky about what I put on my board, and I wouldn't hesitate to add this pedal. Most of my other pedals are from Fulltone, Xotic, Axxess Electronics, and HardWire, and this fits in nicely.

I would love to have the option of downloading some of the more quircky pedals DigiTech has produced in the past, such as the Gonkulator, or some of the stranger modulation effects that the Space Station was capable of.
You buy one box and for a little more, each, you can have several different effects to choose from and download them in between sets from your phone. That's a great value.

Digitech abandoned all support for this pedal almost a year ago. They have not added any new pedal models since 2013. The pedal has had ongoing and serious problems with the App and compatibility to any new iOS upgrades or Apple product since the Lightning connector was introduced over 2 years ago. This pedal was outdated almost the moment they released it. Digitech's customer support has been truly terrible. They will never answer you directly about the problems or product. IF you can get it to work, it has some very nice modeled pedals which may work for you - as long as the patch is stable and you buy the expensive Apple 30 pin to Lightning adapter. However, it has other serious design flaws: it is very difficult to set up on a pedal board and change tones because the large multi pin connector sticks out very far from the unit. It needs it's own isolated power supply or it can bleed tones or clicks or noise into your signal chain. With no indicator as to what pedal is loaded, if you don't have the ID stickers that they provided for a brief period of time, you have to use tape or make your own labels. If it drops your model or won't work, it is not true bypass and you have to patch around it on your pedal board.

Finally, why would you pay anything close to retail for this as it has sold for about 75% off it's price on many occasions.

Bottom line: I know some players are thrilled to get this for the super deal prices and may get some good use from it but I found Digitech's awful support for it, as well as the various programming and compatibility flaws too much to even want it at the low price.

Be careful - must buy effects seperately

By Kai

Comments about DigiTech iStomp Downloadable Stompbox:

This is NOT a multi-effects pedal. You can only use one effect at a time. You have to pay for them, and of course the better ones are aroud $10 each. And it takes about 30 seconds to switch between effects so its not like you could switch in the middle of a performance. For this price, why not just get a multi-effects processor? Or buy a Line6 amp with built in effects? You can get a dozen built in effects in some pedals already. Can't use with a battery either and doesn't have a stereo headphone jack. I don't get it. I'm returning it 1 hour after buying it.

Comments about DigiTech iStomp Downloadable Stompbox:

Easy to use interface, quick download. Intuitive operating instructions, simple, clean and neat.
I can put whatever pedal I want into it, handy for playing different gigs! I'm going to get 5 of these so I can load whatever I need for the next gig.
Solid feel, rugged chassis, nice sleek look. Compact for pedal boards. It's actually smaller than most stomp pedals, but not too small.
For the price of this pedal, I'd be stuck with one single pedal, not multiple options.

Comments about DigiTech iStomp Downloadable Stompbox:

This price for a pedal you can download a bunch of different pedals to, but aside from the two that are included with the purchase the downloads cost ten bucks a piece and regardless the pedal can only act as one pedal at a time instead of a combination. i've been a pedal junkie for the past 15 years and after downloading the shop software to my ipad do not see any point to this.
it can only act as one pedal at a time instead of a combination.
i am not buying this pedal so i do not know the quality of its build, though most digitech gear is solid.
way better off buying multiple pedals.

These pedals do not include the proprietary cable needed to load programs. Cables are not available for purchase from any source including DigiTech. I contacted DigiTech support and was told that they do not have any on order and they do not have a source to manufacture them. There is no assurance that they will ever be available.
I will return the iStomps since they are not supported by the manufacturer.

Really like the Redline and Lexicon reverb pedals and new pedals keep coming. I have a permanent place for iStomp on my board.

    This pedal sounds amazing

    By Kelly Ritchotte

Comments about DigiTech iStomp Downloadable Stompbox:

This a cool pedal. I would love to see DigiTech make available some of their more unusual effects, such as the "Gonkulator", and perhaps some updated versions of the other weird modulation effects like the ones found in the old Space Station.
Firstly, yes, only one model can occupy at a time, but the modeling is so good, it's amazing. I have owned or borrowed most of the models I've downloaded and these sound like the real thing. The dynamics are very nice, which is where many modeled effects fall short. Another plus was that when trying different guitars through it, the transparency was terrific. It allowed the natural tone of each guitar to come through. The models are quite inexpensive, and I like the idea of using this for the more obscure effects which I would use on occasion, but don't wish to invest in the actual pedals. I can buy one pedal, purchase the models, keep them stored on my iPhone and download them to the pedal as I need them.
The iStomp seems to be designed and built very well. The sound quality is very, very good. This would be a nice addition to my board, which contains many 'boutique' units.
I quite like the fact that the iStomp is relatively inexpensive and that the models are all fairly priced as well. It's definitely a great bang for the buck. I'm absolutely going to purchase one, so I can quit bothering my friend for his.

I got my box and immediately opened the package as I was anxious to check it out. But, I intentionally made myself read the instructions front to back first, so as to not make any mistakes. Downloaded the app. After checking out all the boxes that came with the machine, i downloaded my first new app/sound from the app store. It sounded great!
But, when attempting to download the next new app a couple days later, all the screen kept saying 'error' no communication with hardware. I even tried resetting everything. Sent back on a return, was refunded immediately. I would not recommend until they get the bugs fixed.

I received my Stompbox, opened it and read the instructions completely through first. Then I connected the unit to my iphone 4S and downloaded a few pedals that interested me. But, everytime I try to 'load' a pedal, any pedal whether it came with the box or one downloaded, I get a communication error. I have since researched this online and there are numerous people with the same problem. Returned mine right away.

Comments about DigiTech iStomp Downloadable Stompbox:

This device is really cool - but with a caveat! This will only work with Apple devices with a 30-pin connector (not iPhone 5 or greater) nor will this work with iOS 7.0 or higher devices or with Android. And since I finally escaped Apple's proprietary tyranny and have now converted to Android this could have been a problem. (DigiTech's tech support says that they are considering an Android version.) But I still had an "old" Gen 1 iPad laying around and it works perfectly with that. Many of the effects are stunning - especially the spring reverb and the various tremelos, etc. Plus, all but one of the virtual effects are now free!!! So - if you have an older Apple device and need a number of various effects (but not all at once, however) buy it! You can't beat the price. If you don't have the necessary hardware, then this will not work for you.

Comments about DigiTech iStomp Downloadable Stompbox:

I bought it when it was a Deal of the Day. Inexpensive. I thought that was a good deal for the variety of effects. A good variety of basic free effects are available. For better (more interesting and fuller) effects you pay individually for each. Some of the effects are very interesting. Granted.
Then realized that The single and double Digitech multi-effects pedals offer dozens of sounds (some multiples)for well under the iStomp price. So you're basically paying for the technology that allows you to download different sounds via your iphone (which is a mini hassle especially at a gig or under pressure) when you can have even more sounds all ready in a pedal for far less cash. There is no read out except on/off. You can easily forget which parameter each dial controls. You have to create labels for each sound and stick them on.
For these concepts and quality issues (good and bad) I'd go Digitech.

It also works well with single coil, humbucking, and p90 pickups. I really could not be happier. I just wish I had ordered more than one at the Stupid Deal price so that I could use more than one patch at a time.

Comments about DigiTech iStomp Downloadable Stompbox:

I have had my eye on this pedal for quite some time. When the price went down significantly it was a no brainer. I bought two. First off, I will admit I am a confirmed pedal geek albeit a semi-employed pedal geek. I could not at this point in time justify spending my unearned cash on more expensive pedals that I must have. The iStomp was the answer. Now I don't have to spend big money on a lush reverb, jet plane flange or swirling chorus pedal that I might use for one song. I now have all that i need (yeah right) in one very versatile pedal. And the really nice part is that the pedal downloads, for the most part, are now free. You can't go wrong.
The sound quality is excellent in a band setting. I haven't use it for recording yet but I foresee no problems. I haven't detected any of the "fizziness" I usually equate with modeled effects.
My one complaint is that the connecter cable is a bit temperamental. I sometimes lose the connection mid upload to the pedal and must close the app and re-power the pedal to get it back on track. This can make changing effects on the fly in a live situation a bit challenging. So my pedal geek response, I bought two. I just keep them loaded with any two effects I might need in any given set. Now I just have to figure out how to make room on my board.

Ok, so this is not a multi pedal as some may think it is, it is just a single pedal at a time changeable into multiple pedals.
I for one am glad, multi pedals confuse me and I think the sounds are sub par, they may be ok for use in a bar gig or something like that but if you bring one in my studio I will tell you to leave it in the box.
Next...if you have an Ipad air or a newer than Ipad 2 and it uses the lightening cable you can not use the istomp (despite what Digitech says) also if you have an ipad or touch running Ios 7 or newer again no Istomp.
And lastly.....they say a continuing library of pedals are being added, well there were 44 of Dec 2012 and as of today Jan 7, 2014 there are 47, so roughly 3 pedals in a year, and nothing being done about the Ios updates or lightening cable issues.
Bottom line...is this pedal worth the MSRP...no, is it worth the today price of yes especially since they are now offereing 46 of the epedals free to download with the remaining pedal "impossible" being the only one they charge for and the latest and only pedal recently updated, I do not like it anyway, I was thinking about buying 2 just to be able to try different effects in a song and pick the one I want to buy.

I use the reverbs and delays all the time, and on occasion I have used a chorus and a tremolo. Although I have boutique verbs and delays on my board, sometimes I need another or need a tremolo or autowah, etc on a set so I just load one on my iStomp beforehand and it has always done a good job for me. I don't like the huge boards with every pedal on the market. I play in contemporary Christian bands and I rely on my iStomp every time I play. I actually have purchased 4 (Stupid Deal of The Day got me).

This is a great pedal with a couple of caveats. First, it is only compatible with 30-pin I phones/iPads. I got an Apple adaptor to convert from Lightning to 30-pin, but it never worked for me, despite quite a bit of trying to mess with it. I ended up reviving an old iPhone 3GS and downloaded the app. Tons of great pedals in there. Being a bass player, I downloaded a chorus that is pretty close to a TC in sound. It really shines when I do simulated fretless on some songs, and brings out harmonics on others.

Second caveat is the fact that it uses a wall wart for power, which means one more cord at my feet, and using it on a really big stage is pretty much out (I only use the one effect, no pedal board for me). I have several other pedals downloaded and ready, but I rarely use them. Occasionally I use another chorus or delay, but been pretty happy with Blue Pearl. The led on the pedal is bright as can be! No mistaking whether or not it is engaged, even in bright sun.

Overall, if you want a pedal that can change from RAT-type distortion to a buttery chorus, to a ring modulator, and many more, without breaking the bank, or having to trade away your pedals, this is the only way to go. If it had a 9v battery option and a memory, as well as Lightning support, it would be just about perfect. As it is, it is an innovative, effective solution for gigging players looking for that certain effect to make a song sound just so, or to have many different pedals at your toe tips.
