I bought one of these handy little effects pedals about 2 years ago and I loved it. I wanted to wait before I posted a review so I could get a really good idea what it was capable of.

This processor amazed me right off the bat. When I plugged it up to my amp I was blown away at how great it actually sounded. Since then I have tried it on many other amps, all of which sound amazing. It even made my little old fender 10w amp sound good and that's a feat in among its self.

Its also very versatile. I play just about everything ranging from country to heavy metal and after a little tweaking this pedal some how works with everything.

Now for the bad. Really the only bad thing I have to say about this is that its not something you can buy and it last you for 5+ years. After the first year of use the channel buttons started getting less and less responsive. At about 1 and a half years the down button completely quit working and I would have to go all the way through the 100 channels just to go down one channel, not really good for performances. But luckily I had a two year warranty so because of musiciansfriend's painless return policy. I had shipped it out and got the money back in about a week. Which I used to get another rp90.

All in all this is a fantastic little tool that now its hard to not use it. I do not regret my decision to buy it. If you do decide to buy it, get a warranty. It will save you alot of money.

if you think this is going to be a veritille piece of kit that is going to last you years and years think again. get it for your kid with his first Strat and it will be cool. but if you are looking for something that can deal out the goods then your going to have to deal out the $$$$$$
This box is very limited in features.

    in order of programing.

volume: first off is the preset level. it is very hard to zero in a good level seeing as if you add any effect it is going to affect the volume in a way you wouldnt expect (tremelo turns the volume way down for some reason and so does auto wah)

pickup/ wah: very unrealistic sounding. very fake. The pickup effect allows you to make a single coil sound like a humbucker an vise versa. But it is very unconvincing. The wah is not terrible but it could be much better.

compressor: fine, does exatly what it is supposed to do

Amp/ Distortion: There are no actual distortion stompbox effects but rather amp simulators with amounts of distortion from 1 to 9. I have had this for almost to year and have still yet to find a quality sounding distortion. I always leave the amp simulator off and use my amps distortion instead.

equalizer: once again. not much that can go wrong here. works fine

noise gate: big problem here, all of the presets have this set to 3 and it pisses me off. the master level (bottom right round button) if set to low makes it so that the presets are hard to hear. and its annoying as hell to try and go through all the effects and change the prest level (big volume issue)
long story short the noise gate often cuts off my sound to much. rather then killing the buzz it kills the whole note. if i set it lower then 3 then the buzz gets bad.

chorus/ fx: exatly what it says it does. you can have one mod effect. THATS IT! very annoying when you try to play a song that needs a auto wah and a phaser or a chorus and a flange. i found it especialy diffuclut to edit the effects becuase you cant control the parameters like a real stompbox (this whole box works with levels of 1 through 9, but you can only control the one parameter. for example in tremello, you can control the speed of the trem. thats it. no depth no eq, just speed. and seeing as you only get speed 1, 2, 3 etc. up to 9 a lot of trem speed is missed. VERY FRUSTRATING) thankfuly the delay is a different thing, so is the reverb.

delay: best part of the unit. greats sounds. I use the rp90 for mostly delay as it have very convincing delays. has two parameters unlike the rest of effects (speed and feedback)
    love them!

reverb: ehhhh. i use my amps reverb cause it sounds better.

expression: very pleased. you can control most things with the exp. pedal i use it for delay volume a lot becuase you cant set the delay volume individualy.

    DRUMS
Pattern: very strange only a few normal usefull patches. most are wierd ones that a real drummer would never play.
    Tempo: DUH
    Level: DOUBLE DUH

The presets are edited by using the edit up and down buttons. up moves clock wise from preset level to expression. down goes the other way. when you reach something you want to edit you use the value buttons to change from 1 through 9. very simple. when you get it the way you want you click store then get it to the patch where you want it (50 patches can be edited)
    then click it again.
tone library scrolls you through the various amp models, effect library scrolls you trhough the effects.
broke on me after a year of giging. its not meant to be used for a long time. its a plastic box with little up and downfoot switches and malfunctioned on me after a short period. i had to take it apart and fix it. turns out all that the up and down switches do are hit tiny little buttons on a computer chip. cuase the led to change # and the preset to change.

you get what you pay for . for a hundered dollars dont expect something great.
for someone who cant afford anything else this is awesome. great for little kids messing around in their bedroom. but when you start gigging with da big boys dont expect this to hold up to thier 250 dollar 1 effect pedals.

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I bought this a few months back because my RP 155 doesn't have a wah function. Right off the bat, I noticed that the presets don't sound all that realistic, the newer digitechs have better sound. Essentially, I only used the thing for wah, and used my 155 for everything else, so I've actually only used the thing 10 or 15 times in the last 6 months since I bought it from MF. I'm writing because tonight I sat down to record a wah solo into a song I'm writing on my DAW, and the expression pedal no longer functions. I reset the unit, and everything, and there is no longer wah, volume control, or ANYTHING from the expression pedal. Now, I'm torn between just buying a better digitech (like the rp 355 or the rp 1000) or just buying a separate wah unit... My advice is not to purchase this, simply because the sound is not up to the current digitech standard... it's cheezy, and the only worthwhile part of it to me stopped working after only a few uses.

good tones, fairly simple to navigate after instructions are read and followed,,,,,,but,,,the housing is extremely wimpy,,the foot buttons on my unit stopped working well after just a few hours of experimental play time,,,,cycling through the presets to see what was stock,,,,I tolerated this for some time,,,,now one of them has just comepletely stopped working,,,(maybe 300 button presses, not alot of use),which renders the bypass and essentially the whole unit worthless

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

The pedal has a lot of different effects for the price, but except for goofing around in your basement or bedroom,I can't ever see any use for most of them. Most of them sound pretty cheesy.I would compare the sounds to those of an inexpensive keyboard. I really couldn't tell much difference in sounds between the different types of amps and cabinets. Maybe my hearing is shot from all of these years of playing, but I think not.The unit is made of plastic , with very small platic pedals. I can't imagine this unit standing up to the rough treatment of life on the road. Every serious guitarist is looking for "that certain sound". Yours might be in this pedal. Mine wasn't. M/F refunded my account for the return.

I am in the Middle East in a war zone. I live in a tent with 9 other people. This lets me practice without bothering people and I can travel with it anywhere. It's like having a studio in a backpack.
The features are endless, user friendly.
Quality is what you would expect and performs well. they got it right!
For the money, it is fantastic. You could spend more by buying componets, but why spend more when you can get more for less.

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

    Good buy for the money!
This unit has as much capability as you can use... especially for live when you only want a handful of settings that you use the most. It is programable, so you can tweak each setting to suit your taste and then move them into the order you want (1,2,3,4, etc). The expression/volume pedal works OK and I just hope it can take the abuse I've been known to dish out to my stage gear! Great buy for the money!
Sounds are great, but construction may be a bit light (a lot of plastic)

    An inexpensive introduction to modeling

    By Tanner

    from Florida

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

It is an inexpensive unit for someone new to tone modeling or if there is a need for a headphone or bedroom-size practice unit. It works for hotel room practice pretty well. Tones are only average out of the box, and require quite a bit of tweaking that may not be worth the effort in the long run. It's a good introduction to the overall difference in sound and tones for someone just starting down the tone-quest road, containing models of all the major stomp box categories. Likewise for someone who would like to hear the general difference between amps. It won't give you the same quality tone as a good pedal, but at half the price of a decent distortion pedal, having multiple effects and choices can make it a useful unit for general experimentation.

Too lightweight and fragile for performance use, it's best use is as a headphone practice unit. It might also be useful for a teacher using small practice amps with their students to introduce them to different sounds and tones and stomp box effects, while punching up a five watt Cube or similar practice amp.

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

You should not listen to those bad reviews. I understand if those people had a defect in their pedal but if not then they must have done something wrong. First off there is an instruction booklet which will tell you how to get certain effects it takes time and those with the bad reviews had no patience. its an aazing pedal if you know how to use it, you can save 100's! I got effects from bands like audioslave and rage against the machine that sounded dead on! There are amazing clean tones and awesome heavy metal tones as well. all it takes is time and understanding to make this baby work. trust me it is worth the buy DON BE FOOLED BY BAD REVIEWS! remember patience is key if you have none dont buy it

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I bought the RP90 for practice and hoped to use it for some recording. I got it and wasn't too impressed with the sound quality. There seemed to be some "dirt" or noise in the background of the effects when using headphones. The other thing is it's not battery operated so it's not very mobile. I was going to return it, but the price to do so out weighs me trying to trade it at a local store. I will remember this the next time I even think about using the "no-hassle return" policy.

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I own both Digitech RP90 and Behringer X-Vamp multieffects pedals. Each pedal does a few things that the other doesn't do, so they both have their place. The Digitech has better quality sounds, even the wah-wah is pretty good. And the distortion sounds on the Digitech all have subtle differences, whereas the ones on the Behringer all sound pretty much the same.

I am kind of a technophobe with modern gadgets, but I found the Digitech owner's manual easy to understand, follow, and use for reference. Setting up the effects and parameters is easy, just scroll through the effects that are lit up on LEDs and set the values.

The best thing about the Digitech is that it can make humbucker pickups sound bright like strat single-coil pickups and vice versa. I play through a BC Rich Warbeast, which is a great inexpensive guitar with humbuckers. The Warbeast has one glaring weakness, it sounds very muddy especially in the low-pitched tones. Play a song with a slow strum like "House of the Rising Sun" and the notes just kind of mush together and sound bad. But with the Digitech pedal I can switch to the bright sound and it is all better, the muddiness is gone.

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

I got this so i could have a second FX unit for my grab n go amp. I normally use a POD HD Pro into a tube power amp. I use this to put in front of my 20watt head i use for small practices and around the house.

The effects are just good enough - they get the job done but not much more - actually i found the tube screamer to be quite good considering. The good news is most of the effects you'll ever need are here - and they are all decent enough to use if you can dial this box in right. Not much tweaking available on the effects but many preprogrammed variations are available within each effect - enough to get in the ball park of what you are after. The stock presets are pretty bad. Start with a blank patch and go from there to see what the unit is actually capable of. Reading the manual is a must to get the most out of this. Once i did, i found it pretty easy to create the patches i needed for the songs we play.

Note that i'm only using FX, not the models - a few of the models sounded OK, some were awful though.

One thing to note, the only way to get to your patch is to scroll up or down with foot switches - something to consider if you plan to perform with it. The bypass seems to work OK. Not too difficult to engage. I created 10 patches 1-10 to mimic my POD patches (ballpark - obviously not sounding as good). I figure i can manage 10 presets at practice - or a gig in a bind. Basically for each song, i'll have it bypassed or ON, and select the required patch beforehand. The wah and whammy work well. For the price, you get a pretty nice unit

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

This is actually my 2nd RP 90. I keep one at church where I play and one at home to practice with. I find it to be a wonderful supplement of tones and effects in conjunction with my pedalboard and amp. I have a few different guitars I use so I put a block of settings in for each guitar rather than changing my amp all the time and making it easier on the person working the sound board. Personalizing your settings is easy to do once you get the hang of it and then you just lock them in. Ironically our lead guitar player and bass player each have Digitech RP and BP pedals as well. If you're looking for a simple and versatile supplement of effects and tones I would suggest this affordable product.

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

Like all the RP series they use cheap surface mount tact switches and don't last long (a year or 2 at best) but still less expensive than buying seperate pedals these days. Had the RP155 for 2 years and had to replace the switches 3 times until the SMT foil patterns finally broke rendering the pedal useless. Got the RP90 on sale (cause I needed a replacement) but programming was difficult compared to the RP155. Will see how long the wah pedal works on this unit though. Still would like to use separate FX pedals with hardware (rather than programming) but they have become quite expensive since the 70's.

bought one, and then bought another.
when we practice we use the drum loop to help with timing, and rythm. add the effects to lead Guitar, and the bass, and rythm guitar.
just fun to mess with and add a new warp to a riff.
or to mimmic the sound of your favorite band.
a ton of sounds to play with. the wahh pedal, just another bonus to add to fun useful tool.

Comments about DigiTech RP90 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal:

This is a great multieffect pedal. The quality is there, I recommend customizing the effects. The connections in the back are fragile, and you can't stomp too hard. Great for studios, I won't highly recommend using it for live.

Recieved this as a gift. I am so pleased with it. The only problem I have so far is that I keep tweaking my effects. (Its a personal flaw) I cant wait to use it on my next gig. Got some people coming to listen to my original music, so hope this puts icing on the cake for a sale. Wish me luck !!
