This pedal is great for the heavy metal/thrash/death metal playing styles. It has a wide range of distortion. As much chunk as you want. The low end is the best feature to me. Depending on your tuning and amp you may need to dial it back. Compared it to the new distortion pedals and this one has the heavy sound. Do not get this for anything but the heavy stuff or you will be disappointed. Get the 9volt adapter battery life about 4 hours that's no joke! Thanks Tom

Great pedal, don't get me wrong. This will get you some screaming, over-the-top gain which most guys looking for a Pantera/Metallica or Death Metal sound want. This reminds me of the Metal Zone pedal, but less versatile. My problem with this, is that there is no gain control, which left me having to use my guitar's volume knob to back off the grind a bit. This is obviously a problem and not ideal. If you have high-output pickups, it might be a bit harsh. I have a Les Paul Studio with stock pickups and it sounds much better than my Ibanez w/ an Evolution pickup in it. I think the high output pickups are just too much with this pedal. The distortion is just too saturated.

The "morph" knob doesn't really adjust the gain, but rather to tone. Anywhere from 10-2 o'clock, you get scooped mids. Below and above that you get mid punch, with a little less gain...but again, not much gain control.
It's pretty much "balls to the wall" distortion, which is good for some applications, but gets old fast.

So, if you are looking for a distortion pedal that you can get a screaming lead tone, this is pretty good. Or if your main rhythm tone is all out death or thrash metal then you are set with this. I like to have a gain know where I can go anywhere from light crunch to max and not having a gain knob is a real downer.

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

Now normally I'm not a huge fan of Digitech pedals because in my experience they often are too noisy but this one is the best thing I've heard out of Digitech yet. I've played around with their Grunge model before I got this pedal and now I can honestly say I'm never turning back! The fact that this pedal can model a wide variety of sounds sets it apart from all the others. Spend your money on a true metal distortion effect. Get this one.

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

This is a fantastic pedal if you're into metal of any kind. I agree that it can sound a little too trebly but a little knob twirling should fix that right up, especially if you're using a good amp. In my experience it works better with solid state but it is pretty good either way. The only thing i'd add is a mid range. I swear by this pedal. Highly reccomended.

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

I have not recieved this pedal yet, but I have played them at the guitar store and always managed to play solos that sounded great. If you feel like there is too much noise when playing a solo I suggest that you turn the high tone close to the middle, and turn the bass on your amp down and not turn the mid tone all the way down. This will help to keep feedback from beeing too loud. And for those of you who have problems with the battery, STOP USING THE BATTERY! Get yourself an AC adaptor. And just use a surge protector, and just turn the power off. This will also save you a lot of money and time. The 9 volt battery drains faster than other batteries anyway. So I suggest this stomp-box for all you metalheads out there!

(ahem!) THANK YOU GOD.

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

i first bought this pedal, like three years ago after hearing about it, and i originally thought, eww this thing sounds way to harsh, so i stopped using it. well, then one day i decided to tinker woth ot a little, and ended up getting an amazing sound. sure a lot of people say its harsh( which it is), but they probably dont know how to set up, their equipment to get a good sound. after messing with it, i found to get the best sound you lower the pedals hi knob to around 1/3 up from zero, and the bass aroumd half way. then set the morph knob to desired mid range sound, and adjust volumes and the eq on your amp to desire. so then after playing with it thoroughly for about a year and a half i decided to modit, so i put in a couple of sprague orange drop capacitors mainly in the morph knob component chain in the pedal. plugged it up, turned it all on, and wham! godly sound! i was seriously amazed. for a digital pedal, it sounded awesome. so then ii decided to try diff. pedals, to spice things up, but i eventually find myself back to the m.m. its like i cant stop using it! seriously awesome pedal if used correctly. be warned though, the volume does fade some over the years, not to noticeable, it doesnt effect the sound at all. also the low end loosens a tad over time, but modding it takes care of that. *** warning*** modding will your warranty, and you can destroy your pedal in the process, so do it only if you know what your doing.

A true Metal Master

By Anonymous

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

I dont know where to start. This pedal is simply beautiful. You can model this pedal to ANY kind of metal, from the light and simple, to the deep demonic chaotic chord changes that are Death Metal. The morph nob(far right on the pedal) changes from extreamlly scooped from 7'o clock to 10'o clock, to a chunky rythm from 12 to 3, then a totally insane distortion that will blow away the compition. I think personally that it sounds much more natural with a battery, even though you get an average 3 to 4 hours out of it. But using an adapter, you get a more digital industrial sound out of it. Overall, I must say that this is one of the most versitial pedal I've ever used. For the price, this is a hidden jewel among the hundreds of other "metal masters." I highly recommend this pedal to ANYONE wanting to play metal, or even hard rock.

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

Man-o-man, talk about distortion! This little sucka kicks some serious *ss. I'm not sure, but i'll bet there's at least "6" gain stages all cascading into eachother like the Niagra Falls pal. And this pedal can kill the energizer bunny, I mean it eats 9v batteries for breakfast...better get a Boss adaptor. Seriously though, I don't know why anybody would need this much fricking distortion, or maybe I'm just a wuss! (don't answer that) There is one feature this little bugger has, which was the selling point for me, and that is the "morph knob" which allows you to tweak the mid frequency of the gain anywhere, and this is just a guess, from about 1khz to about 4khz. And you sure can scoop the living crap outta the mid to get that CH-CH-CH-CH sound with this knob. Pitty they forgot to put a distortion level control on this pedal, but then again, if ripping the heads clean-off of your audience is your goal, who needs it, right? WARNING: Do not attempt to run this pedal through the dirty channel of your amp.

XXM Metal Master

By Superman-1XT05

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

This is a fantastic pedal, for most situations. You can get nearly any tone you desire, from creamy bluest tones to thick, heavy death metal tones. It's got a very clear and articulated characteristic. There's really only a few tones I use, but it's nice that I've got more options. Now, if you're looking for that fantastic Periphery-ish tone (which is my ideal tone) you won't be finding that here, but if you want any sort of typical high-gain tone(i.e., Pantera, Dream Theater, Megadeth to The Faceless, The Arusha Accord, etc.) then look no further. My only complaint is that this pedal eats up batteries like crazy.

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

Out of my 5 distortion pedals, this is by far my favorite! This pedal is absolutely mind blowing when you want to have burning leads, or Chunky palm muted rythms. I generally use this pedal to give my Marshall MG100HDFX extra boost on the crunch channel. Use the mixer output for a smoother tubed feel, and used the amp output for a true brutal solid state amp feel. *note*-This pedal got a 4.5 on quality, because it eats batteries like a lion eats its prey. Buy a power supply and shred away!

    Amazing Sound

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

This pedal is a god. I have a crate amp which is sounds ok for the price, and the volume is nice and loud, but the distorton on it is always an unsatisfying sound. But when you put this pedal in it becomes a completely different amp, it turns the sound into that of an amp that would have normally have costed me a couple hundred bucks. You do the math. As a part time musician the combination of all these things is great cause it allows me to have a nice small amp with a great loud sound for a low cost. Buy it, you wont regret it.

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

When I first bought my guitar about a year ago, I was very disappointed with the drive channel on my amp. I got the Squier Affinity Strat w/ the Fender Frontman 15g amp. The amp was buzzy as hell and it just didn't deliver the heavy metal sound I was looking for. So I looked into some pedals and came across the Digitech Metal Master. I just bought it yesterday. When I plugged this thing in, I could not believe it! My amp can now dish out the metal sound I was looking for! Now I'm playing my favorite songs. For anybody who is looking to play heavy metal music but your amp/guitar really sucks ass,or on a budget, get one of these. It's cheap, very versatile, very easy controls, and tons of sound possibilities and it can make your amp/guitar sound a lot better. You will really hear the difference. GET ONE NOW!

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

This is probably the worst sounding distortion pedal of the lot! I have a Boss Mega distortion and a Metal Zone and they both walk all over this toy.It makes alot of shorted out sounding buzzes and it sounds like there is some phasing or flanging going on in the background. The buzzing sounds like the sound you get when you touch the end of a guitar cable with your finger.I am using a Peavey wolfgang and a USA Strat deluxe into a 5150 halfstack, I ran this pedal in the frontside and have a phaser, reverb and rocktron Hush in the loop.I even tried the pedal with a kustom solid state bass practice amp. This pedal is junk fella's the noise to usable sound level is too high on the noise side...

I recently went to a firends house and he has this pedal and i had to have it. So i went to the music store and bought it. This pedal is the best pedal if tour into the metal scene. But i do recomend buying a A/C power supply. When i brought it home i used it for about 10 or 15 minutes and it would just stop working. I asked the dude at the store and he said the light on the pedal was eating up the battery. GO OUT AND GET THIS PEDAL!

Comments about DigiTech XMM Metal Master Heavy Metal Distortion Pedal:

For the all out metal tone, there is the Metal Master. From a screaming 70's thrash Stryper sound, to a modern day Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier, this pedal really has it all. As I Lay Dying, Zao, Becoming the Archetype, Pillar, Stryper, and more. It is all attainable from this pedal. The amount of bottom and top end you can get from this pedal is absolutely amazing. I actually can't turn the low end up all the way because of the massive amount of bass it gives out. From thrash, metal-core, death metal, hardcore: you name it, the XMM has it.Did I mention that it is really darn tough?? I've dropped it multiple times from waist hight, even on to concrete (not intentional of course). No matter. Only a scratch. This thing is tough. One advisory. The XMM does give out a good amount of feedback, especially the higher you turn the top end past about the 6-8th mark. I'm pretty sure a simple noise gate would fix this, I just haven't gotten around to getting one yet.BUY THIS PEDAL IF YOU LOVE METAL!! LEARN FROM THE METAL MASTER!!
