I rate the Digitech Tone Driver X series a 9 because the Morph knob give you the texture, color, warmth or bite you want. I did have to spray the small internal on/off switch with contact spray w/ silicone. It was sticking. It's a winner, a keeper. I'd like to have another for a back up.
The volume/tone/gain are usual but the FEATURE that makes the Digitech Tone Driver great is the Morph knob. It will give you thin, thick, bright, dark, and everything in between. So it's not a one voice overdrive. What more could you want?
The digitech tone driver is built bullet proof. It is heavy so it won't slide around. Tough quality.
These overdrives are worth the price because it will put your tone/sound exactly where you want.

This pedal fails in almost areas an overdrive pedal should exceed. Long story short, This pedal produces an extremely digitalized sound that way overemphasizes the treble side of the musical spectrum. It also does little in the way of pushing your amp, instead choosing to add a bit more gain. I guess it could be used as a distortion pedal for those aiming at a 90's sort of sound.

Look guys, there is NO pedal out there that will make you sound like Eddie VH.

Once you get the "fix-all" pedal mentality out of your head, consider this pedal as an excellent option for you Tone Effect needs.

It has a wide spectrum of options, and it really delivers.

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

I got this pedal years ago for christmas. Mine stopped working after so long, but I'm getting it sent in for repairs hopefully soon. When it was working, it was pretty good. Obviously, you're not gonna get a whole lot of distorion, which is the point of overdrive. The morph capability is awesome, but there is really only three settings. EQ-wise, you only have a "tone" knob, which i don't particularly like, but it didn't matter much since the setting on it was a good sound anyway. For the price it's an excellent and i would reccommend it for anyone looking to save money.

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

I got the Tone Driver about a year ago. At first I wasn't really used to hearing overdrive, so I thought that the cruch was gain (DUMB I KNOW!). But after a while as I got more advanced in my playing and knowledge, I realized that the name says it all. At first I was running it into a clean amp, with no overdrive whatsoever, then I ran it through a Vox VT30 with a dirty overdriven tone and it sounded completely different. So therefore, I recommend this pedal to boost your signal to get a higher gain sound, but the pedal sounds great without a dirty amp for some classic rock or blues.

this is another example of a bad fuzz box. there was a promo for it which an artist said it was really heavey and could be used as a weopon.....i think thats all it should be used for. please avoid this at all costs.the x series knob on this does nothing and its a total waste.

Glenn Tipton of The Metal GODS Judas Priest has this exact pedal on his board for boosting an already overdriven amp sound for solos, etc. - that's the key, you use it to give your already hard-driving amp a nice KICK. If it's good enough for him, it's good enough for you!

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

Bought this pedal to replace my Ibanez TS9 I had for many years. This pedal is a good overdrive(not a distortion pedal)with tone control. It sounds great through my 97 Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. I like the morph control also.Easy to use. Not designed for long 4 hour sets, I recommend getting the power adapter. Battery is a little tricky to get open and the 9V clip was very tight. Overall the pedal is easy to use, versatile and Digitech quality. I've used on two outdoor gigs under extreme heat. It is like a TS9 and several other overdrives to boot. Good price, good product.

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

You can literally get 5 different overdrives from the morph knob. 9 oclock gives you grunge. From 7 to 3 gives you multiple Rock or metal (dirty) tones. From 3 to 5 gives you transparent OD. The great part is you only get the natural overdriven tone of the amp. 4 seems to be the amps tone and 5 adds some sizzling treble. It will literally sound like a different pedal with a turn of the morph knob. I gave it a the only 5 I've ever given because of the value. Has headroom as well. It can get too hot.

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

Overdrive pedals come and go. I've owned many, and never been totally happy with any. The Tube Screamer sounded great, for some songs, through some amps. The Boss and DOD units I've had were similarly limited, too much for this, too little for that. I'd basically given up on "straight" OD units, relying instead on my Marshall TSL-122's capabilities (certainly no complaints there). Until now. The Tone Driver has opened up a whole new range of tones for me. Running my TSL on the clean channel previously gave me a great clean tone, and that's about all for "normal" volumes. With the Tone Driver I've found a whole new world of tones in that channel. I purchased the Triple for its versatility, and the Tone Driver has increased that versatility immensely! All the previously mentioned OD tones are available, plus an almost limitless variety of others. Every tweak brings out a new and exciting sound to experiment with. All of my blues heroes, and a respectable number of rockers, are hiding in this box, waiting to be released. I'm sure I'll find the rest in the Hot Rod Distortion pedal I have ordered. This pedal came, but it will not go away like the others. An absolute keeper!

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

When I first bought this pedal from my former bassist I really liked its sound. I was looking for a light overdrive to dirty up my cleans a little; nothing too drastic. This pedal can definitely do that. But if you want full-on distortion look elsewhere. Even with the gain maxed and the morph knob at its heaviest setting it lacks a lot of power. I use it for my cleans and combine it with my Boss BD-2 Blues Driver for a distortion. It's an alright pedal but that's all. It sounds...well artificial. I know it is artificial, but it still lacks the sound I wanted out of it. In the near future I plan on getting another Blues Driver to replace it. The Boss Blues Driver costs around the same as the Tonedriver, I recommend checking it out before making a decision.

i had one of these given to me, i just would like to say that if you have a marshall TUBE amp i wouldnt get this pedal,i think its made to voice the marshall OD and theres really no point in getting a pedal that voices and amp you have :/ maybe. i dont know.its good for a bit of drive if you want to add some, but most marshalls have enough gain/tube breakup that you wouldnt need it much.i guess it all depends on the amp your running it too.its built well though, and if your amp doesnt have an OD channel you mind as well grab one since they do what there made to do well.

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

I can say honestly that this is the best digitech pedal there is. It gets all the best vintage overdrive sounds you'd want and even the Ibanez TS808 which is what I always have it set to. The 808 is probably the best overdrive there is for the modern player and this is as close as you can come for only about half as much money. I've played on it with my 7 string Dean with EMG active 707's through a tube and a solid state amp. The solid state actually sounds like a Mesa Rectifier's crunch channel. The tube amp sounds ok to but there's a lot of feedback. Best OD pedal for the money in my opinion.

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

This is a great little pedal but the Digitech Bad Monkey is better and more versatile. This pedal has alot of great morphs but you are limited to those instead of being able to dial in your favorite tone like the Bad Monkey. I have also found that the morphing pedals don't pack as much power because they are trying to do too much in a small pedal. Buy the Bad Monkey, you won't be disappointed.

          Great Pedal

          By Anonymous

          from Undisclosed

Comments about DigiTech XTD Tone Driver Overdrive Pedal:

I was looking for a pedal to give me a little more tone variety. I tried many others (RAT, Boss Mega-Distortion, Boss Turbo-Overdrive) without any luck. All were too fuzzy, too harsh, no warmth. The Tone-Driver finally offered what I was looking for. Many tonal varieties with a twist of the Morph knob and then endless possibilies within that. I tend to leave it on the TS 808 model, which gives my marshall mg250 a great bluesy tone on the clean channel.I use and Epiphone Les Paul with EMG active pickups. These pickups can be a little hot and this pedal helps control that for certain musical styles. I don't know how well the models match the real pedals, but I can get some great tones out of them, so it doesn't matter to me it they match or not. If you are looking for some great variety at a great price, pick this pedal up.
