The famous DOD 250 Overdrive Preamp Pedal has been reissued and it's a screeching, roaring return! The DOD 250 is ideal for players who like to clean up their tone and just clip the top of the signal. The reissue DOD 250 Overedrive Preamp includes a level and gain control, and that good ol' metal switch.

This is the first pedal on my board and I never turn it off. I set it to give my sound a touch of overdrive so that even on soft songs I get a strong tone. I never turn it off, and when I use my other overdrive pedals the overdrives layer and I get some really great sounds. I really wish it came with an LED, but it's a very inexpensive pedal so it is a good value. I can't imagine doing with out this as my sound depends on it.
The DOD 250 has been at the front of my signal chain as a boost for about 3 years now. I keep the level maxed out and the gain between 10 and 11 o'clock. This gives me the perfect boost of muscle without being over the top. Transparent yet full. Plenty of sparkle but retains your low-end. Hands down the best $ I've ever spent on guitar equipment.
I really like it with my 73 Bassman but it recently started cutting out. I'm going to try to fix it later as the last reviewer has a similar problem. Otherwise I think it's good.
This is a great middle-of-the-road kind of overdrive. Thick but not too bass-ey. It's got a lot of clarity but it doesn't your ears. Suitable for any style of music. This is my main box for any live situation, practice, jam, studio...etc...I hate the word "Features" it should be "Versatility." That's why I rated it at 5.0. I gave it an "Average" score on quality because I own two and the first one started giving me trouble. After resoldering the ground it has been fine ever since. It's kinda like a Tube Screamer only it's got way more bite and presence. My favorite overdrive of all time. I hope Digitech/DOD doesn't discontinue this again, its a great overdrive. Suitable for any style of music. Highly recomend.
This is my 3rd OD pedal. I thought this would be better sounding than my Boss super overdrive, and smaller than my Visual Sounds ultimate overdrive. It is simply too harsh sounding. With no tone knob there is nothing I can do about it. It has a huge range of gain, but the volume changes too much when you alter the gain. The 3rd strike is that it has no LED light.
I have a Strat knock-off with Mighty Mite Hotrails ant the neck and middle ( And for those who have not tried them are really missing out; their that good! ) and a Duncan JB jr. at the bridge. It doesnt matter what amp I play through , this is the best classic overdrive pedal I have had. Its not all high-end distortion. The thing that surprises me the most is range of sound just by adjusting the gain. The tone doesnt stay the same from low to high gain. It goes from a fat fuzzy sound to a mid-high tone that clips the very top of the signal and is very smooth but not overwhelming with distorion. I play classic rock and blues and this is the best pedal I found out of quite a few. I didnt purchase this pedal with price in mind either. I was willing to spend 2 to 3 times more to get my sound . The other brands , which I will not mention but use your imagination , didnt cut it and cost a LOT more. If classic gain is your game. Give this one a try. Its built like a tank and has the firepower to match. Who knows how long DOD will make these reissue's. Get One!
this is the best overdrive pedsl i have ever used. I can get that crazy Led zepplin overdrive sound out of it and its just wonderfull
I bought this pedal because I wanted to test it against the Malmsteen DOD (308?) overdrive that I have. They pretty much have the same level of OD but I like this one better because it has a warmer tube OD sound compared to the Malmsteen which has too much high end trebley sound for my taste without keeping hardly any bottom, plus you can't switch from clean back to the OD (in the Malmsteen) without it completely changing the sound of the amp, so thumbs down to that. I guess Malmsteen plays through some really muddy amps or something (and I don't think he ever turns his pedal off). So I'm putting Yngwie back in his box and storing it away while I groove out to this better, warmer, sweet sounding 250 reissue without spending a ton of money either! I'm really happy I bought this. Maybe someday DOD will create this pedal with either a High end boost switch or a tone knob, because then Yngwie wouldn't have had to get a special one made for him. Oh, and this pedal is good if you are like me and switching from clean back to OD alot without completely changing your EQ.
This pedal is amazing for anything from blues to hard rock. The distortion sounds like an all tube marshall head. Its extremely natural sounding. It blows other pedals in its price range out of the water (like the horrible Boss DS-1). Use it with a tube amp!
This is the real deal. I dont buy mass-produced pedals as they are all tone killers. Not this one-sounds true bypass & it EXACTLY what it says it is a PREAMP Pedal. Its a noisy little bugger BUT if your gonna use this for what it does best its gotta be LOUD. This will TRULY make your Tubes Scream without adding any coloration to your tone.Placed AFTER a good Overdrive Pedal this will boost you into sonic harmonic Nirvana. I put it in between my Barber LTD SR & my 5 Watt Valve Jr. Head & this baby KILLS!
