This is the best $40 I've spent in a while. This pedal could get run over by a tank and you wouldn't even notice. Adds the extra punch my amp needed.
I had one of these for about 20 years until it broke while moving. In a panic I went to Guitar Center to find out they did not carry it. Since I did not want to wait, I picked up a Boss DS-1. Biggest mistake I ever made. I finally got around to ordering the reissue of the DOD 250, and boy....there is no comparison. The tone this thing puts out is incredible. This is easily the best pedal I've ever had, and in 30+years of playing I've been thru a few. I find it amazing that the other manufacturers don't make something this simple and this good. I may buy a second one as a spare. Do yourself a favor and pick one of these up. Let the amp control the EQ, and let this pedal do the overdriving. You wont be disappointed.
This is the real deal. I dont buy mass-produced pedals as they are all tone killers. Not this one-sounds true bypass & it EXACTLY what it says it is a PREAMP Pedal. Its a noisy little bugger BUT if your gonna use this for what it does best its gotta be LOUD. This will TRULY make your Tubes Scream without adding any coloration to your tone.Placed AFTER a good Overdrive Pedal this will boost you into sonic harmonic Nirvana. I put it in between my Barber LTD SR & my 5 Watt Valve Jr. Head & this baby KILLS!
this is the best overdrive pedsl i have ever used. I can get that crazy Led zepplin overdrive sound out of it and its just wonderfull
I first bought the 250 when I was sixteen, and it has been my mainstay ever since. I know that I can rely on it when I need that classic overdrive. I was glad to see it reissued so this younger generation and get a feel of what a classic overdrive peddle is all about. But it's not for everybody. But I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good sounding and rugged peddle for any style of music.
This is a great middle-of-the-road kind of overdrive. Thick but not too bass-ey. It's got a lot of clarity but it doesn't your ears. Suitable for any style of music. This is my main box for any live situation, practice, jam, studio...etc...I hate the word "Features" it should be "Versatility." That's why I rated it at 5.0. I gave it an "Average" score on quality because I own two and the first one started giving me trouble. After resoldering the ground it has been fine ever since. It's kinda like a Tube Screamer only it's got way more bite and presence. My favorite overdrive of all time. I hope Digitech/DOD doesn't discontinue this again, its a great overdrive. Suitable for any style of music. Highly recomend.
This pedal is not for distortion, it is good to use with your clean channel. Just two knobs, not much tweakability. If you like older (Pre-Early 90's), more vintage tone this pedal is great. If you want a heavy tone stay away.
The DOD 250 has been at the front of my signal chain as a boost for about 3 years now. I keep the level maxed out and the gain between 10 and 11 o'clock. This gives me the perfect boost of muscle without being over the top. Transparent yet full. Plenty of sparkle but retains your low-end. Hands down the best $ I've ever spent on guitar equipment.
Well. I now know what is meant by "creamy overdrive." This thing is great! I've never been one to like overly-distorted distortions so the sound this pedal puts out is perfect. It's chunky and dirty enough to give me what I need and light enough to be bluesy without overkill. Nice sturdy package and tough metal switch. At this price, why pass it up?
I played this with a bass in a local guitar shop, and I like it a lot. With low gain on, it sounds like an awesome bass, and gives it a little bit of Steve Harris (Iron Maiden) sound. With high gain and low tuning it gives and awesome distorted bass metalcore sound similar to Zao or Every Time I die. I plan on buying it, it's one of the better sounds for my bass.
