A preamp designed to restore the beautiful acoustic sound of your guitar.

The D-TAR Mama Bear Digital Acoustic Guitar Preamp is your secret weapon for capturing and reproducing all of your acoustic guitar's presence and rich tone. Even the best acoustic guitars deliver an oversimplification of true acoustic tone complexity when amplified. The D-TAR Mama Bear Digital Acoustic Preamp solves this problem using what they've named AGE technology. Mama Bear takes your guitar into the digital realm, neutralizes the pickup, and then restores the natural body resonance. The result: now the finest acoustic guitars can sound like, well-themselves. Only louder.

D-TAR - Duncan/Turner Acoustic Research
Seymour Duncan and Rick Turner are two legends who spent years working with musicians, perfecting their tone. Seymour founded his self-named company in 1978 which has become well-known for its wide variety of guitar and bass pickups used by just about every name player from Billie Joe Armstrong to Angus Young. Rick co-founded Alembic, was president of Gibson Labs West Coast R&D Division, co-founded Highlander Musical Audio making piezo acoustic guitar pickups for Lindsay Buckingham, Ry Cooder, David Lindley, and Andy Summers, and runs his own Renaissance Guitars. Now Seymour and Rick are working together to create innovative products for acoustic musicians. Their D-TAR motto: "With respect to acoustic tone."

Comments about Dtar Mama Bear Digital Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

over all this is an expensive piece of gear, but i have found that for my needs it has fit perfectly in my rig and made my sound studio class, live, so it is a tremendous value in my book, sound guys aw at the nautural acoustic tone and ease of use. this is very very recomended, i was hesitant too, but you dont need to be, the mama bear will elivate your playing and thats priceless! the loop thing is something to think about though....
this is not really a feature packed piece of gear, but the lack of lots of different controls and features 100% makes up for it in golden acoustic tone. i use a pretty high end rig running an lr baggs pre amp before this pre amp then through a marshall as100d, i had a great acoustic sound before so i was hesitant if it would help, but i needent worry, this is a premier piece of equipment and they did there research when making this! this pre amp has the amazing abilty to make your guitar touch sensitive like playing your acoustic only louder or even as sensitive as an electric guitar, its hard to explain but, what it seems to do is eliminate your pickup and replace it with a the AGE tech its almost exaclty like an awesome miked sound which is amazing, it makes you want to play more and more. D tar really has something here. i use an lr baggs element pickup which has a nice warm sound already and i use setting 7 eq. but this thing is so worth it there arent many reviews for this which boggles my mind for the power and versatliy of this pre amp. the guitar emulation technology really does work golden wonders for your acoustic tone, i have found a fabulous tone for every one of the 16 settings it has, and there are even some different eq settings that are pretty cool to play with to, very versatile.
rock solid piece of equipment with a solid steel chasse, i think the knobs could be sturdier and a little bigger and easier to read but o well. its really really really hard to use a looper with this because of all the rich overtones and airyness it prduces it makes your loops sound muddy and muffled. so now i have to use bypass and use my original signal to loop to not get mud

            Great little unit

Comments about Dtar Mama Bear Digital Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

This little thing is exceptional. Good quality piece of equipment. It has an amazing ability of making your guitar sound like you are playing into a mic. Have to hear it to believe it. Warms the signal up and gives it a more natural sound, like you would hear with your ears and cuts any quack from your pick up.One thing to mention though is that this is specifically meant for piezo type pick-up's. So if you any kind of piezo pick-up get it. Modeling works very well with that type of pick-up. I personally play an Avalon with an i-beam, which already has a pretty warm sound anyways. The coolest thing was that while I could not completely dial in every emulation Mama offers, I was able to just close my eyes, turn knobs and get the ABSOLUTE BEST acoustic sound out of my guiar I have ever heard. It still sounds like my guitar which I want, but really brings it to life.Run one of these things through a preamp with a compressor and eq active on it, bare-none the best acoustic sound I have ever heard through speakers. And set-up is simple...Either way, as an emulator or transparent preamp you've gotta get this thing!!! Don't miss out, save up for it and enjoy.

Comments about Dtar Mama Bear Digital Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

The preamps are nice and quiet. The wet/dry control is both useful and crucial as the modeled sounds are rather intense. I used Mama Bear with two Takamine classical guitars, one which had a DTAR undersaddle pickup installed. With both guitars this device produced effects which to my ear are more sophisticated than other modelers. I would like to use some of these sounds at times but due to their intensity, for everyday play I would want to down-regulate some of the components that lead to "fullness". When someone produces a modeling preamp like this that allows the user to control the parameters, I'll buy it in an instant.

Comments about Dtar Mama Bear Digital Acoustic Guitar Preamp:

Bought this several years ago to enhance the piezo pickup on my Artist Parker Fly. This is not a cheap add assimulation sound to your guitar unit. It takes the natural resonance of your guitar and transforms the body sound from th piezo and eliminates the quack characteristic of the piezo. I blended the Mama Bear about 50/50 with the piezo to get the acoustic response I wanted. I use the Dreadnought setting all the time to bringe a natural big body sound into the mix. It took a little time to work with the Mama Bear to get the value out of it, but once I dialed in the sound I was looking for it was awesome! If your a serious acvoustic player this unit is a must for live performance.
