The MicroBass II is a powerful, versatile tool for bassists, with functions that include an active direct box, a one- or two-channel preamp, and an A/B switcher/blender. The two channels provide sound shaping from high-end, solid-state types to distorted timbres using the tube-emulation circuitry found in the EBS range of bass amp heads. An incorporated effects loop offers even more flexibility for connecting other effects or for mixing in an external audio source.

The Micro Bass took a little getting used to. I had a Sans Amp and it had a crisper, brighter tone.
It was a little harder to find the sweet spot for my tone. Overall a great product. DI signal is very quiet.
I'd recommend it to anybody to anybody who likes the big Ampeg sound.

The MB2 is about $100 more than the other units I tried. but it easily does $200 more than the other units. It is everything EBS said it was and "still" more than I expected it to be! It is well built by a manufacturer who is known for creating great products that are designed for touring musicians. It works great for practice and in performance.
All I can really say is WOW! It is the only item, out of the six units I tried, that I felt could cover the full sound spectrum for my situation. Pros - 2 channels, single bass or A/B switchable. Phantom capable. Battery capable. Capable of connecting a CDplayer/Ipod and Mini Headphone jack for personal practice. Speaker simulator function. Tube simulation function. Effects loop feature. The only feature on my list not available from my needs list was compression. The Micro Bass II delivers on all the features I read about on the EBS website, in user reviews, Bass Player Magazine reviews and Talk Bass threads. I enjoy practicing with the MB2 -Computer to unit, bass to unit, headphones out - BANG! It takes up far less room and set up time than my practice amp and the amps need for RCA jacks. Also, my practice amp does not offer the ability to use the tone controls or volume of the external unit. This does! For a live situation it can get CrAzy Loud! Cons - Not as smooth sounding as the Radial BassBone or Aguilar Tone Hammer. No dedicated tuner output. It also cost about $100 more than the others on my list.
Very well built. The rolled steel feels sturdy and sure. The knobs are smooth turning without hitch or wobble. The footswitches are high quality and activate and deactivate at my foots request. The LED lights are easy to read on dark and overly lit stages. The input/output jacks and XLR connector are well placed and secure.
My only concerns would be the push/push chiklet style button/switches. Considering all of the features, crammed into such a small space. I am willing to take my chances. I give it a 10 for build but subtract 2 points due to the switches.
The thought of no longer having the use for my vintage Trace Elliot amps and cabinets for road gigs seems a bit sad. However, I am glad EBS had a suitable option. The MB2 gives amp sound options scaled down to fit at my feet. Oh, did I mention with Phantom power?!? I also appreciate the tube saturated overdrive, not the full on distortion and fuzz tones most other Bass DI's offer. It an excellent value considering all the features. As the person paying the bill, you always want the price to be less. That being written, the abundance of features easily crushed many of the other DIs that were on my possible purchase list.Other DI's on the list:

Great features and great sound! The sweapable mid frequency and other tone features allow for excellent tone coloring and control. Currently I use one bass and combine the channels for a fuller sound. Tube sim adds just a touch a warmth. Works great as a headphone practice amp that doesn't disturb the family. Electronics are quiet. FX mix allows control of sound level of iPod connected to FX return. Thinking of adding this to my effects chain for live sound as I like the tone quality better than that of my amp.

I can't believe no one has written a review on this yet! EBS calls this a "Swiss army knife for bass players" and I couldn't agree more. Just look at all the options - versatile 2 channel preamp; the ability to use 1 or 2 basses; 5 different filters; tube simulator; effects loop with mix control; 4 different powering modes - virtually guaranteeing your bass sound will never be compromised! When you consider everything it offers, you?ll be hard-pressed to find a better value.
