Comments about Eden E8i Micro 25W 1x8 Bass Combo Amp:
This is the little practice amp that gets the proper TONE. The other reviewer must have had a bad one. No distortion here, unless you want to push it into breakup. Plug in your Ipod to the dock on top, control it through the dedicated on/off, play, skip forward, skip back, dial in all tone controls(Bass/Mid/Treble)controls to 12 o'clock, gain from 10 - 2 o'clock depending on your bass's gain structure. You're ready to rock, right down to the low E string 42Hz, and the TONE is right on. You hear and feel everything just right, at low practice volume, or small room, just like it's supposed to. Much better sound than any practice amp I've owned....I've had them all. It's not loud.....not designed for that - it's a 25W bass amp....8" speaker....only going to push so much air. It's a small, deep cab and sounds great for what it's designed for - practice. It really allows you to hone in your technoque, balanced, and easy to take anywhere...you can record, jam, or hook to PA/monitoring, or slave to larger amps and use it as a preamp. Also has FX in/out.....many uses there also....be creative. Eden sends them out with no manual, and not much info out there, but this is a rare, hidden gem.....Love it...still have my big rigs, but this is my "go to" amp for practice, etc....most sites ad pics are incorrect also....this is not the E8 Micro...
Comments about Eden E8i Micro 25W 1x8 Bass Combo Amp:
I don't know what the first review was about.....maybe a problem with that particular amp. All I know is I got it, plugged in and sounded great with "no tweaking required".....I'll get back when I've tried it in various situations to be sure it holds up under scrutiny. The first review almost scared me off, glad I didn't listen......it didn't make sense. I can't find much info at all.......they are very rare..............Mine sounded "clean and full", with balanced tone right out of the box.
Overall this is a great "little" 25 watt, very portable, professional sounding amplifier, designed as a practice amplifier.....great tone....the gain control is meant to control the auto compression/gain follow.....3 band EQ....not shown in many photos(this is not the tone only model as shown in many pics)...it also has(also not shown)....an sophisticated Ipod dock built into the top of the amp, with dedicated on/off, volume and play buttons right on the amplifier.....very cool! This is a specialty.......even though I'd be happy with just an input for MP3/CD, etc....instead of the dedicated port. I'm hoping it can also use a simple adapter for other devices.
The quality is top notch...perfect volume box, void-free plywood, not particle board, MDF, etc.....it's quality built...designed in USA and built to strict spec in China......they pretty much make everything now........USA only manufactures really high priced gear.
Eden puts a lot of heart into their equipment.....tone is well balanced, tight...not super loud...it's a personal practice amp.....not designed for live drummer, etc....great for recording also...use headphone out as line out to record, or drive larger amplifiers....mutes internal spkr automatically. I put gain, 3 EQ's and master all at 12 o'clock with a Fender MIM Jazz Deluxe......no adjustments required...the tone is right there in a small room. That's what it's built for....that's what it does....Excellent!! The sound was right on...
It's a little pricey for a small 25W practice amp, but it's an Eden.......you can get louder, less expensive amps, but "design" and "tone" are the keys. Eden has a big reputation to uphold, and to that end, I think they hit a home run. I am especially pleased.....these are no longer produced....they will be altered and renamed......this particular model is actually quite rare.....you won't find many because Eden has changed their structure with Marshall as parent co......Eden retains their identity, but under Marshall's umbrella of ownership. That's great company to keep.......it's all good!
Comments about Eden E8i Micro 25W 1x8 Bass Combo Amp:
I had heard that Eden made quality amplifiers. So I purchased the E8i. The problem here is that even though there are seperate master volume and gain knobs, the gain must be turned up in order for the master volume knob be activated. As a result, there was distortion when the gain was raised up just a little and it was impossible to get a clean sound and have the volume up to a resonable setting. This is a major design flaw.I could not get a clean sound and have the volume be high enough be worth playing. Go with the Peavey. It is so much better.
