I think that it was when I heard one of my freinds play through this thing about ten years ago that I made the decision that I had to play music. this is easily the best pedal I have ever heard. I purchased one several years ago, and have consistently used it to play both live and on recordings. it has never let me down. I've used just about every echo/delay out there, and the majority of them suck. but after the first time I heard what this thing can do I fell deeply in love. the only thing that sounds better or allows the same amount of control is possibly a Roland Space Echo. a Line 6 comes close, but this thing sounds more warm and organic. use it with whatever...I've played bass, guitar, vintage synths through it, and used it as a pre-treating effects loop with Tascam multitrack recorders, among other things. it's really versatile. granted, I personally find the Chorus annoying and very rarely use it, but some people dig it. my friend that originally had one ended up having issues with his eventually (it got crackly and sort of muddy sounding after a while...I thought it gave it a bit of character), but he really beat it up, and it took the abuse of a band who played live shows constantly for about 5-6 years before it eventually died. it's pretty much built like a tank. but there really is something special about the haunting tones you get out of this pedal that you just cant get from anything else. play it through a Fender twin reverb with the reverb on 10 for some real outer space madness. so, if you want a real cool 60's/70's sounding analog delay with an incredible amount of sound shaping control, buy this little bastard. dont make any plans after you get it, though...you probably won't want to do much but play with it afterwards.

I bought one of these to suppliment my DD3 for analog delay sound. I've heard so much about these that I had to have one. I had it for two days, played around with it and promptly returned it. why?1) It's a tone sucker. It's not true bypass and it also knocked the highs and lows off my straight sound. I've heard that if you go through your effects loop this is less of a problem. But still I wan't my original tone itact. 2) White noise. This is a noisy pedal. Not a big deal since I'm looking for a retro, natural dealy. But it can be somewhat annoying. Overall it's not a bad pedal. But for the price I would expect ture bypass that doesn't tone suck. The reverb does sound warm and has a nice decay but I just couldn't justify the price with the above 2 issues. I might try a Ibanez or something else next. This just didn't cut it. To add insult to injury the casing is very large and takes up quite a bit of room.

best tape delay imitation ever

a fantastic tape delay, and excellent on-board chorus and vibrato. gives your guitar a warbly organic sound. don't expect a traditional delay, though. this is definitely more of a specialty tool.

the best money can buy

By marcuslfh

i've played through digital delay units since i began even experimenting with effects. up until i played and bought a Deluxe Memory Man, i thought that the Line 6 DL-4 was the be-all end-all of delay pedals. never again will i settle for less. the warmth and tonality of the EHX can't be rivaled by the utter fakeness of the digital counterparts. analog is the way to go.

The best delay!!!

This delay it's the best I've ever used! It's a state-of the-art delay! I've got a DL-4 plugged into the Deluxe Memory Man: the crazy sound I get from both of them are mind blowing! Using just the DMM you can get really crazy sounds when it starts self oscillating! If you want/need a really good delay buy this one ASAP 'cause I've heard they are being discontinued. I little pricey but is totally worth it!

I couldn't play a show without it

Hands down, the greatest pedal I've ever used. The delay, the chorus, everything. It's so warm, just the way a delay should sound like. Somehow, it's still clear and never turns my sound to mud. Also, the incredible range of possibilities in each knob (a trademark of all EHX pedals) makes this thing handy for everything from bread-and-butter slap echo to Explosions In The Sky passages to crazy effects work. I use it with a Pro Co Rat2 and they balance each otehr tonally leaving me with a sound that leaves me & my buddys smiling. The best echo pedal but lordy, it's a wee bit on the spendy side. Not that I can talk, I have a weakness for Rio Grande pickups and those ain't cheap either!

Deluxe Memory Man

I like this pedal it sounds good and its a fully functioning analog delay. For the price you can get some better stuff that comes with expression pedal inputs for things like feedback and delay time. This pedal is really noisy.

EH Forever

Good delay unit. I bought mine used after playing only once which is a little unsusual for me since I like to really mess with settings before I dole out the greenbacks, but this pedal just made a really strong impression on me. first of for 230$ new it has two effects echo and chorus/vibrato, second the echo is extremely versitile its has 4 echo controls delay which adjusts how far apart from the original signal the echo is, feedback how many echos you get, blend how loud the echo is compared to the original and level how loud the overal signal is. i will be the first to admit the chorus is limited in application but it was the sound i was looking for so it worked out great. the chorus is very textural and can make a detuned sound turned all the way up(i don't recomend it) also as best i can tell the chorus depth is directly tied to the amount of feedback i could be wrong though.overall rugged construction, heavy duty knobs, high quality of sound and versitile echo my only complaints are the lack of reverse delay sounds and the stereotypical EH buzz ohter than that i would recomend this pedal to anyone esspecially fans of Panic channel and U2 only thing in my book that compares is the boss Giga delay for quality but you have to be a rocket scientists to figure that out.

legendary pedal (to be brief)

If I were stranded on a desert island (with solar power generator) and could only have one effects pedal....you get the picture. You know you have a solid pedal if Line 6 specifically tries to mimic it. Simply put, its the gold-standard of analog delay. I'd buy this over any chorus pedal as well. This pedal is as functional as a Leatherman multitool.

Electro-Harmonix Deluxe Memory Man

By Austin Rocks

from Dallas TX

I have owned one for many years its a great pedal, perfect for gigs I can adjust the pedal with my feet while playing, not many pedals offer that feature, the one draw back is the built in drive on the pedal, it makes it unusable in the effects loop, I believe the stereo memory man does not have the drive feature, and is probably a better pedal since the chorus and echo really should be in the effects loop.

I decided to go with an analog delay because i really wanted to get something as close to a tape echo as i could. This is a great choice because not only can you get crazy Syd Barrett type sounds, you can get so much more. First off, nothing touches this echo unit on your amp's clean channel, it sounds incredible, but until recently i had a problem with using it for David Gilmour type leads on the dirty channel. When i plugged it straight from my guitar to my amp, it sounded incredibly muddy on dirty. However, a crucial piece of information i figured out is that if you put this into an effects loop it sounds absolutely AMAZING for dirty channel leads! This is an easy to use delay that can really give you almost any sound you're looking for! This is definetely better than a digital delay (the only thing it cannot do is reverse delay as well as overwriting and looping) But this is definetely worth it! And remember to stick it in your FX Loop for use with distortion!!

Wow. This is my favorite pedal of the 15 or so I own/have owned. I absolutely love its warmth and versatility. So organic and quiet, wet and wild. The only feature that I don't like is the chorus, but I have a killer chorus pedal anyways so no harm, no foul. I have a secret lead tone that comes from this bad boy that leaves everyone's jaw dropped...absolutely killer. If you're looking for an awesome analog delay, get this. It's the real deal.

amazing delay

First off this box is true by pass and that is an asset right off the bat. No long delays here but personaly I dont need em. The sound is first rate. The chorus included is not a strong effect but it is nice to dial it in with delay and distortion you will sound huge. The vibrato is intresting and different. As with all EH effects the effect can be cranked to crazy levels producing wierd effects. I mostly appreciate this because this way I dont feel like im missing anything. After playing with the box for about half an hour I could dial in anything I needed for delay. Alternataive analog delays available cost way more bread and always seemd to leave something wrong with the repeats. The memory man is defenatly staying in my line up. The sound is fabulous. I think you will like it as well. Give it a try!

Remember your Memory Man

Most Analog Delay Effect Pedals today are a gamble when shopping to find a good one. The Deluxe Memory Man despite it's high expense is ideal for vintage and modern action. The two modes: chorus & vibrato offer modulation to blend in with the delay. This is one awesome pedal.

Analog delay, quit comparing it to digital delay..

By MontySlab

This pedal is amazing. I use a lot of pedals, and have tried many delays. I currently have a BOSS DD-5 (discontinued) and this Deluxe Memory Man. I never tire of the memory man. The BOSS DD pedals are nice pedals for delay, but do not have the same warmth and beautiful tone that analog delay provides. This pedal has great tone. There is nothing I love more then overloading this pedal and getting the most amazing saturated sound scapes. The chorus and vibrato don't seem to do chorus or vibrato, but sound more like wavey copies of your notes, which is cool, especially for saturation, but not good for chorus or vibrato.
