Divine digital reverb for we mere mortals.

And the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb brings the price down to earth, too. It will make believers with its emulation of classic spring reverb (so faithful even Dick Dale would be impressed). Its hall reverb is lush and spacious. And the Holy Grail Reverb has a flerb reverb that's a haunting sound like no other.

    Features

    • 3 reverbs: spring, hall, and flerb
    • Metal casing

This is the first reverb pedal I've ever used, and before getting this everything I recorded on my 4 track sounded kind of flat. Reverb is a great way to add depth to a recording--it can make even some of the most stale instrumentations sound halfway decent. The Holy Grail Reverb does the job well for me, and I have nearly no complaints. The spring reverb is probably the easiest one to use, adding reverb but not drenching your sound. The hall reverb is very fun to play around with--when you turn it up all the way, you don't even hear the attack, just the reverb; it sounds like you're listening to a concert from the back of an auditorium. Finally, the flerb reverb: possibly one of the neatest sounds I've heard come out of a pedal. It has a waving, rushing sound, as though the guitar is underwater. I like experimenting with weird sounds, and this has opened up whole knew realms of sound. Many people have complained of the volume decreasing as you turn up the reverb--well, that's because you're hearing less of the attack and more of the reverb--it's normal. Also, people have complained about hissing. The only time my pedal hisses is when I turn up the reverb all the way, and even then, the hissing isn't that noticeable. The only problem I've had with this pedal is that the input and output jacks seem kind of loose, but it seems to be inconsequential and easily fixed. Overall a fine product, truly the Holy Grail of Reverb.

EH makes some of the best sounding pedals with the worst footswitches/jacks. Everyone I know that gigs with these has had them crap out on shows and mine did, but thankfully just in practice. It creates a lot of background noise as well. I'm sure the Digitech and Boss one won't sound as good as the spring setting on this pedal, but the Boss one will take a beating and that means more to me in everyday applications. I own the Fender '63 tank (words can't express how amazing it sounds) and this pedal sounds similar, but the Fender is the best you can get and is almost worth lugging it around. If you're low on cash any of the pedals would be a good option for getting a good reverb sound live, but this pedal is not reliable. I honestly left the pedal on all the time on my board and maybe hit the switch 10 times total and crapped out-not good. The features are perfect...you'll find that most good gear only has one or two knobs, but they usually hold up too. Don't buy this unless you have to-I had it repaired and sold it immediately.

    Best sound for your money

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've just purchased one for a real bargain used. So far this unit serves me very well. Great reverb and the flerb is very unique. I actually bought it for bass guitar. Sound great for fretless bass and single line solo's.

    Check for true bypass

    By KCSlideGuy

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

The first of these were not true bypass. Later models were but there is nothing distinguishing them on the outside. To check if it's true bypass remove the 4 screws on the top corners and look at the bottom of the footswitch. If it has 9 pins it has true bypass if it has 6 then it's not. The 9 pin switch bottom is usually blue and the 6 pin one is black.

E-H needs to re do this one!

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

Electro harmonix needs to step up quality control. the first one i got worked fine at the music shop, but was totally dead when i took it home. the second killed my signal big time. I have to jiggle the pedal to get it going. this is unacceptable for playing live gigs. i'm taking it back. Electro Harmonix usually makes awesome pedals but this just plain sucks. don't buy it.

Just what I was looking for

    By KCDude

    from Kansas

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

I was looking for more reverb than I get out of the small accutronics spring unit in my Reverend Goblin. I also wanted a Hall reverb to get a bigger sound in my office. This pedal fits the bill nicely. I put it in the effects loop. No hiss, no hum. I like simple pedals so this one with a single knob is perfect. I run a Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster in front of the amp which also has only one knob. With these two pedals, my Les Paul and the Goblin (which has a schitzo switch) I can cover the gamut of guitar sounds and have great tone across them all. I'm not sure why others have hissing problems but I suspect it's the order of their pedals and their power supply / line. Hum is almost always the power supply and usually the outlet. I did find out that this pedal has a tip polarity that is reverse of most pedals so if you use it with other than the supplied power cord that would cause some serious problems and eventually fry the pedal. Buy it, use the supplied power adapter, and put it at the end of your pedal chain or better yet in an effects loop so it's after the pre-amp. You'll be in reverb heaven.

It really earns the 5 stars

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

The only non tube driven, spring reverb pedal/unit worth buying. I've used a lot of mediocre and flat out bad reverb pedals, especially digital ones. This one actually sounds good, and goes from subtle to more reverb than signal with a roll of the knob or a flip of the switch. The "flerb" is useless to me, although not a terrible idea. I use below 12 o clock for a nice sutle reverb, and about 3 o clock for some really cool reverb through distortion splats! I run it into the preamp, distortion and all! Great product, I gig with it regularly and I've never had a problem.

    from surf to space

    By Road Worn

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

So I just got a new amp and it didn't have built in reverb, so I felt I NEEDED to have some. Looking at my local music store for something, the guy who worked there recommended this... Boy was it a good call. I plugged this in and it instantly added depth and life to my sterile sound. Now not only is this a good reverb, but it can make some of the coolest space noises ever. Just turn the one knob about 90% of the way up and start playing a note at a time, then prepare to have your mind blown. Turn it to about 50% and bam... Dick Dale status! This is kinda pricey for a pedal that only has one function, but if you don't have reverb something like this is a necessity. Play one for yourself and be the judge!

    Great Reverb Pedal

    By Dr. Bakke

    from Novi

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

Recently just bought this little guy due to the lack of versatility my amp has when it comes to reverberation effects. It does what it promises and what more can one ask for? It is tiny bit noisy when you're not playing anything, but luckily my amp has it's own gate control and that completely eliminates any unwanted noise. If you need a reverb pedal, you can't go wrong with this one.

    The Standard For A Reason

    By Romo Goetzman

    from Deep South

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Holy Grail is the standard reverb pedal for a reason. It's a good way to make a modern amp sound 50 years old. For practical situations, it is all a gigging musician should really need.I play a Gibson Lucille and a (newer) Strat through a Hot Rod Deville and have found that I'm able to get vintage tone with the spring feature. Combine it with some slap-back echo and tremolo and you have the potential to imitate Duane Eddy or Link Wray on a working man's budget. My gripe is that you have to use the provided power source (any other one causes noise for some reason), which means I have one more AC adapter on my pedal board. Also, the flerb feature is pretty useless for all but the most marginal music. But it's compact, gives you enough reverb to go deep surf if you want to, and is reliable. There are bound to be better products out there, but for someone using it as a tool at shows, the Grail is really the perfect choice.

    Amazing, when it works...

    By Rocker Child

    from Canada

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

As much as I love this pedal, I have had to come to terms with something. The Holy Grail is prone to not working. Thinking it was just a one-time fluke, i've reordered a couple times, after getting one that flaked in and out, and one that didn't even work at all. The one I have now works fine most of the time, but the indicator light is flaky. I can only tell when it's on based on sound. It's really unfortunate that something with such good sound and feel has such bad electronics. Don't get me wrong- even with such bad side-effects, I am in love with this pedal. Don't get me started on the warmth of each setting, and the lush texture found especially in the "hall" setting. One thing I found interesting, and something I didn't personally know ordering this online, is that the knob really controls the "blend" rather than the amount of reverb. That is, when you turn the knob up, the volume goes down and the reverb itself goes up. It's basically a blend knob, which isn't bad, because I've found you get entranced with the reverb at about 50% on the "hall" setting. Overall, awesome if you like simple settings, AMAZINGLY warm reverb, and don't mind a few kinks here and there. I'm in love with mine. (PS- the "flerb" setting, which adds a bit off phaser and flange, is really cool to get a unique sound with just one pedal)

    faulty but nice

Comments about Electro-Harmonix Classics Holy Grail Reverb Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is great...when it works. You often have to unplug and plug it back it to make it work. The reverb is great and the controls are perfectly concise. After 2 years switch on the top left has caved in and the pedal is now broken. I guess this is alright considering I have put it to a lot of use. I think I will upgrade to the HG+
