As my third peice of Electroharmonix equipment, I chose the Smallstone because of its sound. For ambience and controlability, it outguns the phase90 and similar competitors by leaps and bounds. For having such an incredibly simply setup, this little black box has to be the most modular sounding for what it does. The switch controls the contour for the actual phase shift while a single rate knob does its job. It can go from mild (almost like a slowly modulated wah) sound for a very deep ambient sound to a bright and peaky phasing that is almost like ripples in water (or something to that effect) and then, when maxed out, it honestly sounds like a giant robot coming to destroy a city. As aforementioned, with the presence of too much gain, it can muddy up the tone, but in general its pretty clean and useful for deep ambient undertones. An excellent effect and an unprecidented deal for the low price. Eat that MXR!

I got this pedal on accident when I was expecting the newer usa made one and I thought why not give it a chance...I plugged it in and it sounded alright in all but it made loud pops and lets just say it was the worst bypass I've ever heard Loud ass hums and rings sorry electro harmonix but I'm sticking with boss or atleast electro pedals made in America not Russia. By the way it looks clunky and is thrown together by drunken elfs no joke.

What kind of adapter do I use for this?

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I got this version of the small stone because I thought it looked cooler, but I soon realized that I couldn't find an adapter that would fit it properly. I have used batteries with it, but I like the consistency of an adapter. Could anyone respond?

Simple but great sound

This unit performs very well and is simple to use. If lost I would buy it again. Some have mentioned the lack of a power jack as a minus. Godlyke products has an adapter for such situations. This is what I use for both my russian electro-harmonex products. Works fine!

beautiful phase.

By BriantheMayan

from Hebron MD

This Russian made beauty is an amazing phaser. I am a phaser junkie.. I have 4 different kinds of phaser on my pedal board (boss, phase 90, line-6, and this one). Very nice mellow phaser, good for open chords or pretty arpeggios. It is very subtle compared to it's "peers". If you are looking for a noisy super swooshy phaser, this isn't the one... but for nice and mellow this girl is a real beauty.

Sweet and Smooth

This is the real deal. The russian small stone is Great. It's cheaper than the american and sounds just like it. The only think that slightly bothers me is the "warmup" period. It acts almost like a tube amp or something, but it's cool. The sound is smooth and pretty. It isn't harsh and in your face (with the colour knob down), it adds flavour. WIth the clolour switch up, it jumps at you. I prefur this pedal over the MXR phase 90 cos it's soo much smoother, darker, warmer. I like that. This phaser has made me happy. For the price, it's perfect.

great pedal. very smooth

I love electo-harmonix gear. They make the best sounding pedals available and the smallstone is no exception. It's great. It's kind of limited, having only one color switch (on or off) and one knob (rate), but that's all it needs. It sounds so good. It's the smoothest warmest phaser I've ever heard. It's totally a trip. I have the original model from the 70s, not this reissue. I heard the reissues aren't as good, but I'm not sure. The only drawback I've found is that it makes your signal a little quieter when it's switched on which is unusual in a pedal. It still kind of throws me off, but I've gotten used to it. It's a small price to pay for a phase this good.

The coolest phase pedal ever

By booduh1181

I have to say that being a musician owning this pedal makes me wonder what other phaser pedals can actually compare to this sound. I love the color effects on this pedal. The only thing I wish this pedal didn't affect is the volume of your clean on your amp. When you switch it on, it brings your volume down 2 or 3 lines on clean but not on distortion. Other than that, this is a must own pedal!!!

Good Rock or Ambiant Phaser

By RectoRocker

from Arkansas

See all my reviews

Like the title says, I recomed this for Classic Rock or Ambiant modern rock purposes. I wouldn't concider it a Metal or 80's Metal pedal. It's a classic Phaser with a classic sound. It sounds great clean, and with some good distortion it can really thicken up a solo. However, I would not recommend using it with a 'dark-sounding' set up, as it can tend to make the signal muddy. All in all, I like the way this pedal sounds on the clean channel of my Mesa with my strat, and on the dirty channel with my Les Paul. If you want a phaser with a classic sound, pick this pedal up.
