Don't let the word "Little" fool you; you're getting the same pedal as the Big Muff for less money and more space on your pedalboard. Now, I personally like playing this with tone and sustain cranked; I get great Jeff Beck/J Mascis/Mick Ronson tones. However, like many other reviewers have said, it's a fuzzbox, not a distortion pedal. If you're looking for versatility, this probably shouldn't be your only distortion/overdrive pedal. But still, if you like grunge or 60's garage or just good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll, the Little Big Muff is the pedal for you!

I bought this pedal to replace my slowly dying 90's green Russian Muff. But this is no comparison. It sounds absolutely terrible. The tone is aweful, and only useable from 12-2 o'clock. After 2 it becomes horibly hissy, and before 12 it looses all fuzz and punch sounding like you have never changed your guitar strings. Keep shopping, do not buy this Little Big Muff!!!

Works For Some, But Not For Everyone

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Overall, the Little Big Muff is complete rubbish. The only way this pedal works is for people who are trying to emulate the sounds of The White Stripes, The Black Keys, or Nirvana. Other than that this pedal does nothing. If you're looking for a strong distortion I'd suggest any of Boss' distortion pedals and if you're looking for a fuzz then look no further than the Zvex Fuzz Factory, nothing can beat it. Just save yourself some money and headache and skip over this poorly constructed pedal.
No features what so ever. You have no true control over anything, just volume, tone, and "sustain". The first two are simply what they say, but the true annoyance is the "sustain" adjustment. This is what everyone else would refer to as distortion and there really isn't any added sustain by cranking it up. With my model I also noticed that there was a certain point, about three-quarters turned up, where the sustain nob ceased to do anything. All it really did was increase feedback and nothing else. Very useless features.
I've had very bad experience with Electro-Harmonix in general and the Little Big Muff was no exception. Right out of the box everything was fine, as usual, but after around six months of use I began to notice a serious drain in my tone. I tried everything to help this problem, from checking wiring to changing batteries, nothing worked. Honestly, the tone died after only a few months of use. I wasn't too impressed to begin with, definitely not the awe-inspiring tones that users of the regular Muffs are famous for, but after the tone being dampened I was completely done.
As far as value, this pedal really has nothing special. It's an extremely minimalistic pedal with nothing over-the-top or even innovative. It's simply just a smaller Big Muff. As far as "value" goes this pedal simply is what is expected, nothing more or less.

Classic Fuzz plus

By Love360

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I don't carry many pedals and am pretty choosy. Pretty much why I went with the Electro Harmonix Little Big Muff. It seems to be an overdrive, fuzz and compressor in one pedal. It seems also to replace any tone it might need to process and hands it back along with the effect. I think a lot careful listening went into the electronic design choices. I play a Telecaster and can dial in anything from a sharp 1st album Jimmy Page or Hendrix sound if I utilize a wah along with it and back off the level, to a soaring David Gilmour lead pretty much straight, to a fat woman tone off Iron Butterfly with tone turned low. My 2nd choice would be the Ibanez Tube Screamer but the little Big Muff is more versatile.

Definitely NOT a Big Muff

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

If your buying this because you are under the impression the only differences are size and price, dont. This pedal sounds smaller than a Big Muff and does not sound like something exploded when engaged like the real one does. I own several vintage and new Big Muff pedals and this one just doesnt sound right to me.I mean everyone has their own opinion, but in mine, spend the extra money and get one of the regular Big Muffs.

Big on Little Big Muff

By Bradley Tucker

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Don't leave home without it!
This edition has a very strong case, and a 9-volt jack, in addition to the sought after tone it generates.
It is strong inside and out, and will take a beating.
You can buy cheeper distortion units, even cheep ones with separate bass, mid, and treble controls, but you will never get as much bottom end grind as you can with the Big Muff.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I had my reservations about this one for a bit because I'd gotten "boutique fever." So about six months ago when one of the boutique pedal makers was out of the one I wanted, and I really needed a fuzz box, I went down to my local store and we tried out this one, as well as the original Big Muff.True bypass, check. Same sustain, tone, and volume knobs as the Big Muff, check. Very sturdy housing, double check. Uses standard 9 volt jack so I don't have another wall wart, triple check. LBMPi won round one. We tested it on a Fender HR Deluxe with a Gibson SG Std through the clean channel. I made sure they put new batteries in before testing. I let the sales guy play while I turned knobs and listened. We A-B'd the pedals, and looked at eachother. Tonal range of the Little Big Muff was slightly better. Which just goes to show you that size doesn't always matter. I've used this pedal for 6 months, and my opinion has not changed. Need a great fuzz box that won't break the bank? This is it.

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Used my Little Big Muff for the first time gigging this weekend. I have been in an endless search for "just the right" fuzz/distortion tone and finally found it!There is a nice blend of fuzz and distortion with the settings I selected. The sustain is endless! On songs where I would let a chord or note decay away naturally I needed to roll off the volume. Love it! I have always had a fuzz, overdrive and distortion on my board and I believe I could get away with only the Big Muff and Route 66 and free up a little board space. Oh and talk about nailing post Fuzz Face Gilmour sounds!!!

Not what I was expecting

By John Walsh

from Brooklyn, NY

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Try it, maybe you'll like it, but I was dissapointed.
Is compact, sturdy and simple. Easy to use. Sort of big compared to boss/mxr pedals, but not super big.
I was expecting something much better seeing as I'm a huge fan of jack white and I love the sound he gets out of this. This pedal just isn't that loud. When I play with it live it gets drowned out by the drums and bass completely, and when cranked to high the signal breaks up to the point where you can't even make out the sound. I do think this pedal would sound great on recordings for some small background parts, but nothing to big. It doesn't take power chords well and if you shred too hard the signal will break up.
It's really cheap and being such a famous pedal I think everyone should try it at least once. But if you're looking for a serious fuzz that produces great tone find something else.

It makes your guitar go

By Jon-odR6j

from Tacoma, WA

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play a lot of riff-oriented music, and since I like my amp's distortion a lot, I never bothered with overdrive pedals. However, this isn't an overdrive, it's a fuzz, and it is an entirely different beast from tube-like distortion. This thing has a huge output too, lots and lots of gain and volume. And the tone knob (I like to call it the evil knob) can make it a screech or a growl. Compared it to my friend's russian muff, and I like this one better. It's smaller, higher-gain, and can get bassier. Some people might not like chords with this thing, but you're not going to buy it for clarity, or touch-sensitive dynamics. You get it to make your guitar go "bonk."

Comments about Electro-Harmonix XO Little Big Muff PI Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Fuzz is an effect that you either love or hate. This pedal provides lots of fuzz, great for psychedelia and rock--and it's versatile too. The tone knob shapes the sound from really thick to raspy and buzzy, so I tend to leave it around noon or 1 o'clock. This pedal provides intense sustain for single notes, and works well with simple chords. This pedal will not clean up well with your volume knob, and it's not meant for complex chords. With a clean tube amp and some humbuckers, this pedal sustains for seemingly forever.
