Comments about Engl Thunder 50W Guitar Amp Head:
The sound of this little powerhouse is stunning. I have been using Marshall tube amps for years and when the time came to get a new head for a new project, I chose the Thunder Head. This is a little tone monster, from perfect clean tones to warm crunch to screaming leads. This thing puts out some sound, too. I have it at 1 or 2 and it's easily loud enough for band rehearsal, even with a full drum set in the room.
Despite what some people might think, this thing can totally be used for metal. My current band is more of a darkwave band, but we venture into some heavier bits and this amp is perfect for swirly ethereal stuff as well as pure doom-y crunch.
Also great for recording, very clean sound in terms of hum and noise, I think this sounds better in the mix than my Marshall JCM900 head ever did.
Comments about Engl Thunder 50W Guitar Amp Head:
ok lots of people say "the thunder cant do metaL" or "amp lacks gain"...fools. This thing has too much gain to use unless you wanna max it out for a liquid lead solo. Anyways, I used it to record about 10 minutes ago, lead channel gain @ 2 o'clock. Ran it through kefir impulse loader w/ one track a mesa trad v30 w/ sm57 centered and a framus dragon cab sim as well w/ a sm57 impulses. This thing made a beautiful TIGHT harmonically rich guitar tone and this is going through fruity loops.. I bought this amp for versatility as I like a good clean and crunch , however i play black/death/thrash metal also mainly and this amp delivers, the 50watts its loud as hell, and the simply electronics and limited signal path the tone is there and its good good tone, clean, crunch, shimmery and all the way to nuclear assault. if your on a budget like me and cant afford a savage this bad boy will rip your head off and half the cost and 90% of the tones.
Comments about Engl Thunder 50W Guitar Amp Head:
This head is amazing. It is a no frills, bare bones amp with every sound imaginable available. It has 7 knobs, 2 channels and 50 watts of pure tube power. I cannot say enough about this head, for a grand, it stands up to some of the big hitters like Marshall and Orange, although out of Engl's nature, it will have more gain than those amps, but you can dial it down. Also, the Thunder 50 stands up to even a Powerball or Powerball II. It's built off the same platform, just doesn't have 3,867 different channels to choose from like those. I'm pushing this through a 4x12 and I never have to crank it up past 3 to rattle the windows. This amp is definitely worth the money, and possibly more. I highly recommend this head.
Comments about Engl Thunder 50W Guitar Amp Head:
I was looking at a marshall for soooo long and finally on a whim decided to get the Engl Thunder. Boy am I glad I did. This little SOB is so awesome. I never have to go over 1/4 volume and it slices through and screams over the rest of the band. Everyone I know is jealous. It has amazing tone and fantastic response. 50 watts is all you need for this kind of amp. Seriously it's awesome. Works great with my duncan pups, emg's and ibanez pups too. It's unstoppable. NO noise gate, no reverb, no delay, nothing but tone tone tone and more tone, oh, and gain. But that's all an amp needs. Perfect. Run some effects through the loop and KABAM! I can play anything with it. Rock, blues, Brutal metal(preferred), Jazz, pop, swing. Seriously there's a tone in this guy for whatever you want it to do. If you spend 1, 2 or 3 thousand on another high end amp then you're a fool. I gave it a 4 on the value because I'm poor and even 999.99 hurt my wallet but I'm still glad I paid for it.
Comments about Engl Thunder 50W Guitar Amp Head:
I play in a gigging old school hard rock/heavy metal band. This little amp is simply just killertone wise, and has plenty of volume. Simple no frills 2 channel amp. If you're looking for the sounds of the 70's thru the 90's hard rock and metal amp look no further. Tight, articulate, punchy. Its clean is also crystal clear. Get the foot switch, you'll need it. This thing eats Marshall's for breakfast.I know, all I ever played for 30 years were Marshall's. I have had this for over 6 months. It also comes with an extra set of preamp tubes! How freakin cool is that! Plug straight in throw away the distortion pedal you won't need it.

Comments about Engl Thunder 50W Guitar Amp Head:
This amp is genius. Imagine a three channel monster like a TSL squeezed into something like a '59 Bassman. The ease of use is perfect and I get some surprisingly versatile tones out of this. Blues to thrash, no joke, instantly. I'm not one to exaggerate, this is the best amp design I've ever used. Extremely under rated. However, there is no on board reverb so its hard to appreciate the clean channel. This being said, the clean is superb, rivaling such amps as the JC-120 or the Hot Rod Deluxe. The smoothness of the controls and the overall sturdiness of the amp are premium. I cranked the master to max and I had noooo power amp distortion. Nothing is left undeveloped. I'd put mine up against any other head, any day.
